thatsnotmypuppy Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 So as you know, the next competition will be for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games - that is entirely ignoring the previous 2018 competition. What I would like to see by Sunday, March 16th 2008 is a list of nominated cities. As with the last competition it will be a one bid book affair. Once these have been submitted by a due date to be determined, I will release a report (I promise!!) and a shortlist consisting of no more than 5-6 cities. We will the start voting at that point until we have a winner. No multiple bid books – just the initial submission. No drawn out extensions that kill all interest – just a quick, sharp competition. There are some rules regarding cities that can be submitted. No to Torino, Vancouver, Sochi, Salzburg and Pyeongchang. I am OK with everything else - just make sure you improve or alter the existing bids (so if Sofia bids - a bit of originality). Apart from that its entirely open - I will accept bids that use a raised platform for part of the downhill. Just keep it realistic. And James - you are pre-disqualified. No bid from you will be accepted. Done.
Lord David Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 I will accept bids that use a raised platform for part of the downhill. Another Québec!
thatsnotmypuppy Posted March 4, 2008 Author Report Posted March 4, 2008 I hearby announce the first official 2018 Winter Olympics Bid - Ha ha Andrew - bet you to it!
Lord David Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 mhhh - that would be nice: Canberra might work, ceremonies and ice events in the city, the Perisher Blue resort for alpine events. Obviously, the whole ramp downhill concept would have to be put in place.
Citius Altius Fortius Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 Canberra might work, ceremonies and ice events in the city, the Perisher Blue resort for alpine events. Obviously, the whole ramp downhill concept would have to be put in place. ... yeah!!! Thanks for the tip with the Perisher Blue Resort! Have just found a fantastic pic on a german website of this resort!!!
Lord David Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 ... yeah!!!Thanks for the tip with the Perisher Blue Resort! Have just found a fantastic pic on a german website of this resort!!! No problems, it's around 120 km away from Canberra, but the national highway is sufficient enough to link the two, plus perhaps a high speed rail link as part of the skitube system? Oh dear, now i'm giving away more tips!

Oh dear, now i'm giving away more tips! well - I was always a fan of WOG in Australia... what do you think about Ski-ppy, the mascot? Does anybody have the requirements for the Winter venues, like we had for teh Summer Games? I have already started to do my venue table...
Lord David Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 well - I was always a fan of WOG in Australia...what do you think about Ski-ppy, the mascot? Does anybody have the requirements for the Winter venues, like we had for teh Summer Games? I have already started to do my venue table... Oh really? I'd like to see a preview when done, even if I do end up doing my Tehran bid! (I'll be happy to show you what I've done if I ever get to it)
Scotguy Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 I Announce my bid AVIEMORE 2018 Details to follow shortly
Faster Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 i will try with Zaragoza... That will be highly interesting, I hope your bid is good. I would love to see Spain host the Winter Olympics one day, the games in the Pyrenees would be very interesting, though I have heard the mountains don't provide the hardest of ski runs. I remember that being one of the complaints of Jaca's previous bids.
skicross Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 ^^ I know that it is no the same, but last week Jaca hosted the Junior Alpine Skiing World Championship (same disciplines as the WOG), and the FIS said yesterday that the ski runs were really good for the competition, the FIS also said that Jaca could get a World's Cup race soon... this would be great! I have made a Spanish bid book for a Zaragoza's bid (80 pages), so i will translate the more interesting parts of it for the competition...
Faster Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 I am pretty much done my bid book, Denver is not exactly the most taxing of cities to us since its such a great sports city to begin with. Only 4 new venues (ice hockey rink, ski jump, sliding track and oval). I am just adding here and there and editing the grammar and spelling so it all makes sense.
Michelle Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 I may enter a bid, depending on how busy I'm going to be over the next few weeks. If I do bid, it will be with Zakopane, Poland.
Kenadian Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 ^ Do enter...I'd love to see a bid from you!
james Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 And James - you are pre-disqualified. No bid from you will be accepted. Done. James, you are pre-disqualified! You see, that's the reason I will always whine here. There's nothing I can do than to co-operate--that's how a civilized person acts.
seamus21514 Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 I nominate Geneva..details to follow shortly.
baron-pierreIV Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 James, you are pre-disqualified! You see, that's the reason I will always whine here. There's nothing I can do than to co-operate--that's how a civilized person acts. james, OPEN UP another account and enter under that. Right now, only 'james' is disqualified. How about 'Musafa'? Or Mandela? I am sure NO ONE would suspect those would also be you. Good luck!!!
Sir Rols Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 What about a cold day in Hell bid from Satan.
Sir Rols Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 Or Kim can re-submit PyeongYang 2016, but use the athletes hotel for the downhill.
baron-pierreIV Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Or Kim can re-submit PyeongYang 2016, but use the athletes hotel for the downhill. Hey, I like that. That would almost satisfy the 800m minim hgt requirement.
NYCD 2012 Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 I don't want to sound like a wet blanket but didn't already have a 2018 comp about 2-3 years back ?
