  1. Well, got to see some of the new sports in the games now. What’s people’s thoughts? For me, a bit of mixed reaction so far. I’ve watched a fair bit of the skateboarding street event, and was a bit underwhelmed. Not quite as spectacular as I’d expected - looked highly technical and few wow moments. Best thing to me was seeing the two 13-year-old medallist’s in yesterday’s women’s (girls) event. Cute. Maybe the park events will be a bit more spectator-worthy. Surfing? Hmmm. First few days too was a bit tedious to watch. Most of it was watching a few people out in the surf waiting for waves. A bit like watching the tide come in. That said, by theta me it came today to watch some Aussies in the quarter and semi finals, and getting a bit of an idea about the scoring and tactics, it did start to have some excitement. Probably would be even better under bluer skies, in bluer waters against whiter sand. I still like Paris’ idea of having in in Tahiti. I’ll keep my eyes out for the others. Climbing sounds intriguing.
  2. Just when I thought I’d got out, they drag me back in. Yes, I’m back for Tokyo. It seems we have an active board for the first time in god knows how long. Nice to see, especially at what’s usually the board’s holy grail time - Games time. Okay, so how about a bit of fun for the games? Get the board rocking again. I hereby announce the GamesBids Tokyo 2020+1 Sweepstakes. It’s simple - put your name down here to be put in the draw for a national; team to support for the games. I will draw those names against the teams that finished at the top of the medal table at Rio 2016. For example, if we get 10 people joining the sweep, they will get drawn one of the top 10 countries of Rio’s medal table. At the end of Tokyo 2020+1, the countries’ medal tallies will be compared to how they went at Rio. Each country will be awarded 1 point for each bronze medal they won above what they got in Rio. 2 points for each silver above their Rio tally and 3 points for each extra gold won at Tokyo compared to Rio. The sweepstakes winner will be the one whose country has most improved since Rio. See, simples. Sign up here, get drawn a country, and cheer your adopted team on to victory! Feel free to get into the spirit of it too - feel free to support your adopted team in your signature, board icon or even a new board name for the duration of the games. So, who’s in?
  3. Thanks to Nakamoto Kyu for that toe-yapping version of Sukiyaki. And thanks to palette for suggesting it. And thank you Palette and Soyoshi, for hosting our deliberations. Ladies and Gentlemen, Mesdames and Monsieurs, Herr Bach, Welcome back to Yoshi's Island. We've reached back here quicker than I expected. Luckily our graphics guys were ready. And luckily for the people of Nagoya and Tokyo, we've saved countless deaths by satisfying Godzilla by choosing a winning logo in the nick of time and enticing the big lizard to settle down with Soyoshi and family. We had a super quick resolution to the comp - the first time, I think, that our winner was settled in the second round of final voting. To announce who it was that won the hearts of the majority so quickly, I'd ask Herr Bach to get ready with the envelope. His speech writer was caught a but unprepared, though, so we'll leave the stage-German behind for this one. Okay, the big moment. The winner is............ Paul! Congratulations paul, who returned to the comp this year after a hiatus (he almost joined, but then withdrew late last year) to claim his unprecedented fifth title. So well done mate and well deserved. Certainly it was always the one to beat. Thanks for entering. In the end, the results were: A (nzl) - 8 votes B (mr.bernham) - 3 voyes C (paul) - 17 votes D (aismanggo) - 2 votes All votes were valid and the winner crowned by an absolute majority. So that's it for yet another logo comp. Thanks to all who participated this year, by entering or critiquing or voting. Hope you had fun. And hopefully I'll see you all back again for at least one more.
