So Houston is hosting the Super Bowl and related events for the next 9 days, and I'm dreading it a bit. When they were in town 13 years ago I was working in the Galleria, the busiest shopping mall and area in Houston, and there wasn't a lot of money to be made during this time because the massive crowds of locals and visitors flocked here thinking they'll catch a glimpse of an A-list celebrity, which they didn't. Traffic was a nightmare in the area and getting home took forever, especially when you depend on public transportation that during that time was piss poor. Usually when I have time off these days I'm in downtown, which is where the NFL experience is located so I know that place will be flooded with traffic for the next week and a half. Those who have lived through a super bowl coming into their town care to share their experience during the event?
I think some folks here, even the non-Americans, will get a kick out of this.. Minneapolis was recently awarded the 2018 Super Bowl. They are currently building a new stadium, so the league rewarded them by giving them the next available Super Bowl. However, the NFL gave them a long list of demands that they have to adhere to in order to host the event. Things like police escorts and hotel rooms. The article referenced below contains a 153 page document (not made publicly available) with the NFL's demands. Doesn't quite put the IOC to shame, but it's an interesting look at what the National Football League takes into account.. NFL had a long and pricey Super Bowl wish list
