Looks like there's a chance this may start to gain traction. A couple of weeks ago, there were rumblings that at least 1 US city was showing interest in the Winter Olympics. Now it appears the USOC is willing to entertain the thought.. USOC expects to discuss possible Winter Olympic bid So let's see where this goes, but clearly this is beyond the purely hypothetical stage where the highest ranking members from the USOC have publicly acknowledged the possibility.

I have an 1988 Olympic pin from the Qatar baseball team. It was given to me by a US coach from the Qatar baseball team while I was in Seoul in 1988. I want to get some idea of value. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

UEFA EURO TÜRKİYE 20?? which year will be the lucky year best forum-friends, im proud to present you this thread with an enthousiasm after that; yesterday, 13.03.2022 the greek prime minister mitsotakis came to istanbul on invitation of erdoğan.. the photo beneath is taken from the official guesthouse "the-vahdettin-villa" with the bosphorus on the background.. this remembered me the first ever bid from türkiye in 2008 to co-host with greece back then.. the turkish national team came third in 2008 (with the co-hosting of AUT-SWI).. the best placement ever at an euro tournament. As the other thread of "2028 Euros" is actually a preliminary thread, when the date of 23.03.2022 comes closer to an end about the allocation of the 2028 euro (& and maybe a double allocation of the 2032 euro) hosting.. in this thread we can continue to discuss the further course of the eventually turkish FA bids & candidature/s for after 2028 with the aim to organize the european football championships on turkish soil.. >> source-1: UEFA Euro 2028 - Wikipedia >> source-2: UEFA Euro 2032 - Wikipedia Meanwhile i made a time-span & grid of the 3 official logos produced at that time out of the 5 consecutive bids. Türkiye has build up a euro-hosting-bid-history with each time elevating the quality of the bids simultaniously with the needed infrastructure of transport/stadiums etc.. in 2030 there will be built about between 12.000 and 13.000 km of high speed rails to increase the infrastructure in host everything in the near future and of course this infrastructure/stadium-legacy will be enourmous for generations to come..

I'd like to start a discussion on the current state of the Paralympics and what it could be in the future. Let's hash out the pros and cons of the Paralympic Games being staged before, alongside, and after the Olympics. Let's talk event logistics, impacts on media, political influence, effect on athletes, etc. There are so many angles to look at. At first thought, I'd really like it to be staged during the Olympics, by extending the Olympic program another two weeks to accommodate Paralympic events being fully integrated throughout. I mean, "para" infers that they run parallel to the Olympics. Last time I checked, AFTER isn't "running parallel." Further analysis to come!

The Qatar Olympic Committee has announced it's interest in hosting the 2032 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Qatar unsuccessfully bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in both 2016 and 2020. The Qatari capital of Doha hosted the 2006 Asian Games, an event which was seen to have encouraged them to bid for other global events. This included the FIFA World Cup, which Qatar will host in 2022 after being controversially awarded the tournament in 2010. This was despite the bid process being the subject of allegations of bribery and corruption. Similar allegations also surrounded the World Athletics Championships, which the country hosted last year. Opponents have claimed Qatar has used major sporting events to improve its image amid a poor human rights record, and criticism of migrants' rights at World Cup construction sites. Qatar is also bidding for the 2027 Asian Cup, and is set to be in a head-to-head battle with Saudi Arabia for the hosting rights for the 2030 Asian Games, with the two neighbours locked in a diplomatic crisis. Following the announcement of the two bidding countries, Amnesty International called on the Olympic Council of Asia to ensure all bids are assessed to identify potential risks. The organisation said the Games should be used to bolster and defend human rights in host countries. - Article

According to a NYT story, by 2050 several former winter Olympic hosts will no longer be able to host the winter olympics again due to climate change. Some on there weren't at all surprising to me like Sochi and Garmish (I've noticed a trend in warming temps there when I compared temps between that area and Pyeongchang while they were bidding to host the 2018 winter games). Looks like maybe Vancouver should try and put in 1 more bid soon. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/01/11/climate/winter-olympics-global-warming.html

We're just about halfway the games, but we already have some estimates of how much Pyeongchang 2018 has costed. $12.9 billion dollars. Still a farcry to the infamous $50 billion of Sochi, and it's almost on pair with the $13.1 billion of Rio 2016. Still though, it is a shame the costs increased because of transport (that train from Seoul to Gangneung along added a lot of money to the budget) https://www.cbssports.com/olympics/news/2018-winter-olympics-pyeongchang-games-reportedly-cost-4b-more-than-expected/ Time will tell, but the early indications are that the big bucks may be paying off. Just this week, Shaun White's gold-medal run at one of Pyeongchang's venues became the second most-watched event in NBC's Winter Games history.

Well, we're just 3 days away for the start of the games (even if they technically start on thursday), so I imagined we might as well get started for the traditional Livechat thread to share our thoughts, views, joys and cringes. Even though this time many of us will have to wake up very early to watch the show. The opening ceremony will start at 8:00 PM (Korea's local time). That would be 5:00 AM (Central Standard Time), 6:00 AM (Eastern Standard Time) and 3:00 AM (Pacific Standard Time) in the US, respectively. If you want to know exactly at which hour the Opening begins, you can use this Timezone converter right here. https://www.worldtimeserver.com/convert_time_in_KR.aspx NBC will be broadcasting the Opening Ceremony live on their website, without commercial ads, for those living in the US. However if you know any other sources where we can watch the ceremony, make sure to share them with the rest of us.

Epidemics have ruined lots of good plans. But this time it relates Olympic Games planned in South Korea and this is a catastrophe imo. https://www.reddit.com/r/korea/comments/7r8hd4/south_korea_is_hit_by_dangerous_bird_flu_virus/ Lots of financial and human resources have been already spent in the run-up to the Games. But the risks are too high to ignore this challenge called H5N6.
