Since the 1974 Los Angeles Olympics, public transport in the City of Angeles has undergone huge expansion across several modes. In recent years particularly, LA Metro Trains, LA Metro Light Rail and LA Metro Busways have greatly grown their networks and connection hubs. At LAX Airport, a much needed elevated Automated People Mover (APM) shuttle train network servicing several key stations within the wider LAX precinct and terminals is getting very close to opening. Also there are other major changes under construction including LAX terminal expansion and brand new terminals, consolidated rent-a-car facility, an inter-modal transportation facility, pedestrian walkways and direct connections with LA Metro Lines. These improvements, along with the usual ‘Games Lanes’ on key roads and streets will make transportation to/from venues and around Los Angeles during the Games a much better experience for athletes, officials, spectators, tourists and residents. As at other Olympic Games, Spectator Park and Ride in pop-up facilties in various open spaces and mass parking areas near certain venues and serviced by shuttle buses are sure to again feature in the final LA 2028 Olympic Transport Network. The organising committee have flagged their LA 2028 “Games transportation plan” to “move athletes, Games stakeholders and fans efficiently during the Games, while keeping LA residents moving reliably through the region”. Currently, that plan must be in the development stage as no details of this plan are yet available on their website.
