And welcome back everyone for the Quarter Finals of the GamesBids Olympic Logo Winners' Cup! And we've sure got some mouthwatering quarter finals lined up! Thanks for everyone that voted - and sorry if I've had to spam to get people involved - just as I've mentioned elsewhere, without status updates, it's hard to promote these comps now. And it's about time Blake contributed something useful to the board. Anyway, in the pool round we had a mix of clear results and a few draws, where I've (and I must say, it's for the first time ever in these comps) had to cast the deciding votes/take the penalty kicks. My decisions were based on a number of factors - my pure aesthetic preferences, evening out some of the finalists who got through and an eye to what sort of match-ups they would produce in these quarter final rounds. For these Quarter Finals - from Groups B and D. The results were: Group B: Buenos Aires - clear winner with 9 votes (the highest score of any logo in the pool stage). Dubai, runner up with 6 votes (including one from me - that was a tough call - I really liked Paul's Durban one. But I figured Paul already had two logos through, so in the interests of diversity I went with Barrack's Dubai). Durban (5) and Ostersund (1) were eliminated. Group D: Oslo - winner from a tie-break on 7 votes (again, a tough choice, based on the looks and what the match-up for the next round would be). Melbourne - runner up with 6 votes. Bangkok (3) and New York City (2) were eliminated. NYC's exit was the big shock of the Pool stage to me! I really had it twigged at the start as one of the contenders for top dog - it's one of my favourites of all time. Still, shows how much a judge of logo tastes I am! Which sets us up with two intriguing Quarter Finals. QF3 is our second match-ups in the QF round of the two heavyweights - Paul and aismanggo. They've always been big rivals in terms of the votes in these comps, and I thought it's sorta fitting for me that they come up against each other twice again. Paul's Buenos Aires takes on aismanggo's Melbourne in a yet another tough and classic round to see who will get through. Good luck to both! I sorta hope you each get one through, but that's for the voters to decide. QF4 is whoohooitsme83 versus Barrack. The battle of two, well I won't say outsiders but they are both single comp winners. Again, I matched these two together by my penalty kick - I liked the idea of the two versus each other. So its Woohoo's Oslo versus Barrack's Dubai. Good luck to both! Okay, rules: 1) It's one vote per person, per Quarter Final. You can vote in a both matches, or only one, as you wish. 2) You have a week to vote - voting in this stage is open until Wednesday December 14. 3) The winning logo in each quarter final at the close will progress to the next round - the Semi-Finals. 4) If there is a tie between any 2 logos in any match, I reserve a casting vote/penalty kick. I will not vote in the regular voting time, & if I do need to use a casting vote, I will base it first on my own subjective opinion. At the end of this Quarter Final round, the Semi-Finals will be arranged according to the draw diagram from which the two surviving finalists will be chosen for the Grand Final which should culminate on December 31, just before submissions close in our regular logo comp (Kathmandu 2030 and Hamburg 2032/Havana 2032). You can vote for yourself if you want to. They're all great logos battling it out now - may the best of them now reign over the rest. Good luck to all! And one last thing - if you're looking at these and inspired - please get out your graphics packages and make sure you're in this year's comp. Go to this thread to enter!

My decisions were based on a number of factors - my pure aesthetic preferences, evening out some of the finalists who got through and an eye to what sort of match-ups they would produce in these quarter final rounds. For these Quarter Finals - from Groups A and C. The results were: Group A: Tokyo - clear winner with 7 votes. Prague, runner up with 6 votes (including one from me). Aomori (3) and Sochi (1) were eliminated. Group C: Paris - winner on 7 votes (including one from me). Toronto - runner up with 6 votes. Christchurch (5) and Rio (0) were eliminated. Danny's Rio logo was the only one not to get any votes in the pool stages. Which sets us up with two intriguing Quarter Finals. QF1 matches up (in the first of two such match-ups in the QF round) the two heavyweights - Paul and aismanggo. Paul's Tokyo takes on aismanggo's Toronto in a tough round yo see who will get through. Good luck to both! QF2 is the Battle of Britain. Davey versus Rob. I'm sorta sorry to bring these two up against each other, and, yes, I could have avoided it by my penalty kick. But this is how it was shaping up yesterday and I sorta got to like the Brit battle aspect of it. So its Davey's Paris versus Rob's Prague. Good luck guys! Okay, here's the deal It's been suggested numerous times over the years that we should have a poll of polls of all our past logo winners and crown an all-time winner. I've been wanting to don it myself, but have been waiting for the right moment. I was almost going to do this during the Rio Olympics, but at the end figured it would be a distraction at this stage. Now, however, I reckon this could just be the time to do it, to try and raise a bit of interest and enthusiasm for this year's mainstream logo comp, and for all of us to have a bit of fun and something to do during the submission stage. So, I institute the inaugural GamesBids Olympic Logos Winners' Cup. It aims to choose a favourite logo from all the winners of our annual Olympic Logo winners to date. It's going to take a knockout format like our World Cup logo comp from July. All sixteen previous winners have been seeded into four groups of four. Multiple winners (Paul, DannyelBrazil, Demetrius and aismanggo) have had their logos seeded into separate pools (in Paul's case, he had six winners, so he has overlapped in two of the pools). Other single winners fill up the rest of the pool spots. The groups being voted on in this thread are as follows: Group A: Aomori, Tokyo, Sochi and Prague Group B: Durban, Buenos Aires, Ostersund and Dubai There's another thread for the other groups, C & D. Here are the rules for voting in this stage: 1) It's one vote per person, per group. You can vote in as many or as few groups as you wish. 2) You have a week to vote - voting in this stage is open until Wednesday December 7. 3) The top 2 logos in each of the groups at the close will progress to the next round - the Quarter-Finals. 4) If there is a tie between any 2 logos in any round, I reserve a casting vote/penalty kick. I will not vote in the regular voting time, & if I do need to use a casting vote, I will base it first on my own subjective opinion. At the end of this round, the Quarter-Finals will be arranged according to the draw diagramm. The competition will progress from that point as a simple knockout - each lasting about a week - culminating on December 31, just before submissions close in our regular logo comp (Kathmandu 2030 and Hamburg 2032/Havana 2032). You can vote for yourself if you want to - draw some previous winners back to the board and inspire them for another tilt at the crown. There's some pretty good logos there - may the best of them now reign over the rest. Good luck to all! And one last thing - if you're looking at these and inspired - please get out your graphics packages and make sure you're in this year's comp. Go to this thread to enter!
