  1. Toto, I know this isn't Kansas, but where are we exactly? Ah, good to know...although you do know Africa is quite big? We are in the place next to where all that Serengeti rain eventually ends up - by the Indian Ocean in the other Kenyan city the tourists have heard of - Mombasa! The resorts around Mombasa can be so luxurious, even Tommy might be satisfied with holding a vote here. It's certainly good enough for us - so let's see what we're voting on with the Round 1 results: A: 9. B: 2. C: 1. D: 11. E: 3. F: 8. G: 3. H: 8. Four clearly at the bottom, four clearly in the hunt - you're very thoughtful Sadly it does mean four logos have to go so it's goodbye to @Scotguy II @Victorian @Sir Rols & @PikyoK. Thank you and better luck next year. For the rest of you, welcome to Round 2! We are now in the exhaustive ballot stage, which means the rules are slightly different: This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Saturday 14 January. Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner. In this and following rounds, the logo with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated at the close of the poll. Vote in the poll for your favourite logo. You have ONE vote, so make it count. Your vote is public and can be seen by all. Entrants MAY vote for their own logo. For transparency, I will not vote unless required to break a tie. Votes are valid if cast by members of GamesBids as of January 1 2023 with a bona fide posting record. I will rule on the validity of any suspicious or disputed votes, or who constitutes a bona fide voting member. I will not vote in this, or any subsequent rounds. However, if a tie-breaker vote is needed, I will reserve my right to vote in order to break it. Be fair and sportsmanlike, this is meant to be fun and the entrants all deserve RESPECT. We will see each other again on Saturday, either for Round 3 or a winner. Until then, good luck, and may the best logo win!
  2. Karibu Kenya! The most famous Swahili song ever written welcomes us all to the heart of the mighty jung...wait, what?! Yes, that is snow, and that is a mountain. Begone with your lazy stereotypes It's Mount Kenya, the thing the country's named after, and it's where we decide the shortlist. Just like in Reykjavik, we have a field of 8, so just like in Reykjavik, we begin by chucking about half of them into Lake Victoria. This next bit is, of course, to be read carefully - it's THE RULES: This voting round will be open for (approximately) 72 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Thursday January 12. Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner. IMPORTANT - As I say, this is a cut round - so the (around) FOUR logos that receive the fewest votes will be eliminated. The four remaining will go to the exhaustive ballot. All logos that get 0 votes will be eliminated, even if there are more than four. What exactly happens will depend on the exact numbers that we get, it might not be exactly four that go out. Vote in the poll for your favourite logos. You will notice this is a multiple-choice poll - you may give up to FOUR votes, so make them count. More than FOUR votes will invalidate all your votes. Sir Rols and I will monitor votes cast, but feel free to alert us if you notice anyone voting more than thrice. Your vote is public and can be seen by all. Entrants MAY NOT vote for their own logo. Thanks again to Rols for assisting with the rules for the multiple voting section. That is all - time to get voting again. Unless one logo here gets a majority - unlikely in a field of 8 but you never know - we will move to somewhere a bit more...wet for Round 2 on Thursday. Until then, thank you to all, good luck to all, and may the best logo win!
  3. Velkomin til Íslands! And welcome to the world-famous Blue Lagoon outdoor spa, the obvious place to spend January: After a month (and only a month!) of submissions, we have a remarkable field of 8 logos - so now it is time to head to Reykjavik to find out what you think about things! As that field is so big, having 7 exhaustive rounds would exhaust your patience and my supply of Eurovision songs, so we begin with a shortlist round to put half of the field in the nearest volcano before we properly start. Please read this next bit carefully, it's time for THE RULES: This voting round will be open for (approximately) 72 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Thursday January 5. Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner. IMPORTANT - As I say, this is a cut round - so the (around) FOUR logos that receive the fewest votes will be eliminated. The four remaining will go to the exhaustive ballot. Thanks to Rols for assisting with some of the rules for the multiple voting section. That is all - time to finally get voting. Unless one logo here gets a majority - unlikely in a field of 8 but you never know - we will move to somewhere a bit more...warm for Round 2 on Thursday. Until then, thank you to all, good luck to all, and may the best logo win!
  4. Huh.... but yeah. Let’s face it, Greece is always keen on this. Whether it will ever happen is, well,. I’d usually say unlikely, but who knows what the future will bring top the games. Anyway, again, this is just an attention seeker. And again i apologise trying to get your attention. But we are now in the final poll of 3the final round of this year’s logo comp. And it’s been hard work to actually make it happen this year. And now, we are poised for a decision, and that decision may be decided by THREE... yes, that’s 3... votes in total. It just seems a bit, I dunno, it just doesn’t sit right tp have it decided on such a small vote base. These comps used to be a big popular and keenly contested event here. Sadly, like the board as a whole, it seems to be past the glory days. But I’d just appeal to you, let’s give it one more go. Click on the link below and then choose a logo to vote for. Two clicks, simple. As I’ve said before, please do it for old time’s sake. Thanks to everyone who has participated and voted so far. Really much appreciated. Anyway, here’s the link. You know the drill, click and vote and thanks! https://www.gamesbids.com/forums/topic/28874-final-round-vote-13th-annual-gamesbids-logo-comp-summer-2032/?tab=comments#comment-531833
  5. Sorry for the technical delays. Thanks so much to Paul for solving them. Now we have that sorted out, it’s time to vote. And to kick it off, it’s over to Yoshi!
  6. Yes, at the risk of flogging a dead horse, I'm doing it again. Let's get it started Nicole! Thank you to the lovely Nicole Kidman, and welcome to the launch of the 10th Annual GamesBids Logo Design Comp. To say the least, it's been a bit of a quiet year on GamesBids, the festivities in August in Rio notwithstanding. Still that mid-year period did bring back some of the old spirit, and one thing that helped a lot with that IMO, was Yoshi's World Cup logo comp. I'd wondered whether I'd bother to revisit the Christmas staple again this year, but that comp did inspire me that it was worth another go. So let's see if it has legs. So down to business, and this year's cities. This year we're going back to the old format, after a few years of (hit-and-miss) experimentation (I thought I was doing everyone a favour giving you free rein last year). To announce the Winter Host city, I'm joined by the Goddess Kali (or it may be Shiva in her destroyer aspect... I'm not entirely sure, the information boards here are pretty scarce). Kali (or Shiva) and I are here in the winter host city to announce that this year we are after logos for... Kathmandu 2030 The capital of Nepal, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas is pleased to announce that it is using its natural landscape and money it doesn't have to stage the Winter Olympic games of 2030 in a fitting setting for the winter sports frolics. Actually I chose it for a few reasons - I wanted something with lots of graphical potential, I didn't want to go to India and I was actually here in Kathmandu earlier this year, so I can treat you to a few happy snaps of the trip along the way. I'm expecting colour, tradition, Hindu or Buddhist elements and maybe even elephants. As to summer? I had my heart set on a german city this year. Up until a few days ago, it was almost certainly going to be Berlin. But then I just yesterday got an email from a Señor Raoul Castro of Cuba, asking me to consider his request to pay tribute to his recently departed dear brother. I'm prepared to consider that, but I didn't want to give up on Germany totally, so I'll give a choice of two for this year's Summer comp. Both starting with the letters "H" and "A". In honour of our esteemed GamesBids member, all round nice chap and my good friend Citius Altius Fortius, and of Comrade Fidel Castro, this year you get to choose between: Hamburg 2032 or Havana 2032 Hamburg, Germany's largest port city and second largest city, was a preliminary bidder for the 2024 Summer Games. It's also home to CAF, and therefore more than deserving to be an Olympic host. But let's see if we can do better than their 2024 logo: Havana, or La Habana, is the capital and largest city of Cuba. It was a preliminary bidder for the 2012 games, though we're not sure if they were serious or not. It also had designs on hosting in 1920 and 2008. Suffice to say, it got nowhere. Lovely scenery though! For those of you not familiar with the drill, the rules and advice for this stage of the competition are: We are after logos for that encompass the overall feel of the city and local influences that can be tied into a design concept. How can any of these cities articulate graphically what they could bring to future Olympics hosting? What flavour will they bring to the games?

Can elephants be incorporated into a Kathmandu logo? The logos should be presented as full colour designs on white background. If you like, however, they can also be presented in black and white or utilised in forms like street banners, t-shirts, apps, vehicles, pins etc. For voting purposes, the main (colour) logo will be used on the polls, but any extra material you produce may help you “sell” your design better to the wider GamesBids voting membership.

These logos are for HOST cities. So you can use the rings, and don't need to include the words “Candidate City”. Post your preliminary submissions on this thread. If you want to hold anything back to be presented as a “surprise” when voting starts you can contact me via PM and I'll tell you where you can send the extra material.

Feel free to post as many logo designs as you like. When the time comes for voting, however, you will be asked to settle on ONE official logo in each category (winter and summer) as your official entry.

The competition is open to all members of gamesBids, or to any new legitimate members who join before December 31. I will rule on the legitimacy of new members. As usual, I will rule on any disputes. As always, just remember, this is all meant to be fun. Try to keep the spirit friendly. Hopefully this will spark up some action on the board. I'll be keeping a close eye on proceedings, but otherwise will try and keep hands-off until the polling stages. The deadline for submissions is 12pm (Sydney time) on December 31 – ie, you must submit your logos before the end of this year. We will thus start 2017 (with a few days, perhaps, to clear our heads of hangovers) with the voting for short lists, followed by the final round polls. Have fun, good luck, good Karma to all and dazzle us with your talent everyone! Hopefully we'll get some past winners and some new blood entering this year. Or at least I hope so!
  7. Ladies and Gentlemen.... It's The Beatles! Thank you John, George, Paul and Ringo for setting the tone for the coming voting events. Tomorrow Never Knows what will come indeed when it comes to the voting comps. Anyway welcome to Annapurna Base Camp, the setting for Downhill events in 2030. My Sherpas and I have been trekking to here long and hard to make it in time for the start of 2017 and the launch of voting in the Winter phase of the 2010 GamesBids Olympic Logo Comp. So let's get down to business. We gather here to decide our winning logo for the 2030 Winter Olympic Games in Kathmandu, Nepal. Thanks to all entrants... five, including me... for taking the time to submit your works. Some fine works there, but who's gonna make it through to the end to grace the Binners' Banner? Anyway, with five final entries, it's a bit superfluous to go through a semi final short list stage. So, let's get directly onto the final rounds and standard IOC voting procedures. The rules for this stage are: This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close after 7am, Tuesday January 3, Sydney time (8pm Jan 2 GMT). (I'm keeping this initial round open longer than usual to allow people to get settled after New Year's Eve activities, to allow a proper consideration of all five together, and to give Krow a chance to do a red carpet review of the entries.) Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner. In this and following rounds, the logo with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated at the close of the poll. Vote in the poll for your favourite logo. You have ONE vote, so make it count. Your vote is public and can be seen by all. Entrants MAY vote for their own logo if they wish. The exception is me - I will refrain from voting at all on the basis that I don't want to be seen as having any advantage. Votes are valid if cast by members of GamesBids as of December 1 2016 with a bona fide posting record. I will rule on the validity of any suspicious or disputed votes, or who constitutes a bona fide voting member. If there's any conflict of interest involving me, I will ask member Yoshi, who has been a close collaborator with me in this and past comps, to make a ruling. As mentioned, I will not vote in this, or any subsequent rounds. If a tie-breaker vote is needed, I will ask Yoshi to make the call. Be fair and sportsmanlike, this is meant to be fun and the entrants all deserve RESPECT. So that's it, get voting. I'll begin the long trek back now (at least it's downhill) to make it back to Kathmandu City in time for the winner's announcement. Good karma to all!
  8. Okay, here's the deal It's been suggested numerous times over the years that we should have a poll of polls of all our past logo winners and crown an all-time winner. I've been wanting to don it myself, but have been waiting for the right moment. I was almost going to do this during the Rio Olympics, but at the end figured it would be a distraction at this stage. Now, however, I reckon this could just be the time to do it, to try and raise a bit of interest and enthusiasm for this year's mainstream logo comp, and for all of us to have a bit of fun and something to do during the submission stage. So, I institute the inaugural GamesBids Olympic Logos Winners' Cup. It aims to choose a favourite logo from all the winners of our annual Olympic Logo winners to date. It's going to take a knockout format like our World Cup logo comp from July. All sixteen previous winners have been seeded into four groups of four. Multiple winners (Paul, DannyelBrazil, Demetrius and aismanggo) have had their logos seeded into separate pools (in Paul's case, he had six winners, so he has overlapped in two of the pools). Other single winners fill up the rest of the pool spots. The groups being voted on in this thread are as follows: Group C: Christchurch, Rio de Janeiro, Toronto and Paris Group D: New York City, Bangkok, Melbourne and Oslo There's another thread for the other groups, A & B. Here are the rules for voting in this stage: 1) It's one vote per person, per group. You can vote in as many or as few groups as you wish. 2) You have a week to vote - voting in this stage is open until Wednesday December 7. 3) The top 2 logos in each of the groups at the close will progress to the next round - the Quarter-Finals. 4) If there is a tie between any 2 logos in any round, I reserve a casting vote/penalty kick. I will not vote in the regular voting time, & if I do need to use a casting vote, I will base it first on my own subjective opinion. At the end of this round, the Quarter-Finals will be arranged according to the draw diagramm. The competition will progress from that point as a simple knockout - each lasting about a week - culminating on December 31, just before submissions close in our regular logo comp (Kathmandu 2030 and Hamburg 2032/Havana 2032). You can vote for yourself if you want to - draw some previous winners back to the board and inspire them for another tilt at the crown. There's some pretty good logos there - may the best of them now reign over the rest. Good luck to all! And one last thing - if you're looking at these and inspired - please get out your graphics packages and make sure you're in this year's comp. Go to this thread to enter!
  9. And over to Yoshi - Yoshi: The group stage is over. This is where the Gamesbids Logo World Cup gets serious - it's a knockout! The groups knocked out 4, & we now have our final 8 entries that will battle it out to be champion - and it's now one-on-one from here to the end. The picture in Rols' post above shows our 8 entries in 4 pairs - the QF matches. Each of the 2 polls at the top refers to one of these matches. The groups being voted on in this thread are as follows: QF1: USA 1 v China 2. QF2: Spain v New Zealand 1. There's another thread for voting in the other matches, QFs 3 & 4. Here are the rules for voting in this stage: 1) It's one vote per person, per match. You can vote in as many or as few matches as you wish. 2) You have 24 hours to vote - voting in this stage is open until 11pm UK time on FRIDAY 8 JULY. 3) The winning logo in each match at the close will progress to the next round - the Semi-Finals. 4) If a match ends in a draw, I will take the penalty shoot-out (casting vote). I will not vote in the regular voting time, & if I do need to use a casting vote, I will base it first on suitability for an actual World Cup & then on my own subjective opinion. 5) You can vote for your own logo if you want to. Our vote scrutiniser - Mr S. Blither - is here to ensure it all goes well. If you have any questions, slide him a brown envelope under the table & he'll see what he can do. At the end of this round, the Semi-Finals will be arranged according to Rols' picture. The competition will continue as a simple knockout - culminating on Sunday 10 July, just after the new European champions are crowned. All that's left to say now is thanks to Rols for being his usual good egg & enabling this to happen, good luck to all our contenders, & may the best logo win. Happy voting!

  11. Voting in Groups C and D of the GamesBids FIFA World Cup 2026 Logo Comp is now open above. Voting for Groups A and B can be conducted in the other thread. Here's the draw for the comp. Yoshi will explain rules, deadlines and all that stuff in the next post. Good luck everyone.
