I love Vancouver. It has gangs?

Thought I'd just stir the pot.
Of course security is needed. It shows the state of the world, when a happy safe place like Canada needs a security bill this large.
-
I think this may well be the best Winter Games Village ever. Liked the colourful Turin village but Vancouver has a fantastic plan, design and location.
Barcelona stands out as the best for a Summer Games, with London's proposal looking superb.

Canada is a safe and happy place.
There will be no serious security incidents in Vancouver with or without the security spending.
-
not sarcasm at all. i honestly feel that spending on security should certainly not be that high.
canada is a safe country that nobody really wants to attack. maybe a few hooligans but thats about it.
you should use your navy and all existing resources but all this additional money is a bit of a waste.
there will be no security incidents in Vancouver.

why does Canada need security? you aren't the USA. paranoia.
Totally unnecessary

we all go a bit loopy sometimes. Qatar is permanently in a state of denial about the size of its country.

My advice: if you don't want a debt burden, don't use debt.
If I'm not mistaken national governments are responsible for underwriting costs and are the last resort in terms of financing. So make them pay!!
All these loans and promises to "raise finance" are not appropriate for current times.

These problems are good. It shows the world that hosting is a tough challenge, even for Canada where most things run perfectly and smoothly in the eyes of the rest of the world.

That would favour Madrid and Tokyo.
-
So...if the Executive Board voted for host cities, who would have been chosen?
Rome over Athens? Paris over London? Toronto over Beijing?
-
dream dream dream
-
That said, I don't think the city with the highest score in the evaluation report should host.
I'd present Madrid as a lower risk than Tokyo.
With regards to visits by IOC members.
All IOC members visited Athens in 1996/1997 and look how that turned out .
-
As Baron says, If the IOC wants us to take its "we want to reduce the scale of the Games" story seriously, then it should appear to be serious about it.
Cutting the scale of the Games is not cutting out a baseball and softball venue. Its about making an executive board decision about which city offers the type of Games that would not inspire other cities to be extravagant.
Its about taking bold steps and shoving the diplomacy aside in evaluation reports by clearly stating, "and wtf do you think you will do with this 90,000 seater after the games?"
By allowing IOC Members to vote Sochi and London you're not sending the right message

I'd like Bogota to win either in 2015 or in the future.
They have made tremendous strides in turning their city around. They faced major transport and urban decay problems and turned things around for good. They are a great model for many cities with similar problems.

Do you know of any outdoor 375 metre Velodromes made of Concrete in the golden horseshoe area ?
I am sure knowledge of the requirements would really help Toronto 2015 LOL.
Jim jones
you could help them predict the clear winner, just like Abuja.
perhaps even advise on helping to set up some sort of public transport system. oh wait, Toronto actually has a public transport system.

wippee. lets save $2 million on the look of Games. a real breakthrough

Mo, that might be that "Bawlimore" accent you heard whenever Phelps speaks. I won't even attempt to mimic it here. But go check out a John Water movie or one from Barry Levinson (like "Diner") on video to understand what I'm talking about.
I know. Just find Phelps very odd.
-
he still speaks like a 5 year old.
ifts nof the triamf bart the stwuggle.
-
in other news, ive heard that Melbourne has become the unofficial backup for Delhi 2010

Mo, it looks like the CT Kerzner project is delayed due to the credit crisis.
It will be completed ahead of schedule, May 2009. Bottom centre of pic. Consists of a main hotel and apartments on a little island.
