  3. It was a nice ceremony, more cut back than I was expecting and . a little bit like London at the start (choreography wise) but the globe made out of drones was amazing and the cauldron was very nicely done. I did think they could have made more out of the empty seats though with LCD screens like london.
  4. At last some semblance of normality!!!!! Also Icelands entry has a very nice introduction not sure about the rest if the song though
  5. There has been a bit of an improvement this year on last. better production values! my joint 12 points go to Bulgaria France and Netherlands. Other songs that stand out Germany Slovenia Russia Switzerland Portugal and Ukraine Uk kind of ok but dosent stand out
  6. I think it most highly unlikely that the Tokyo Olympics or any other event held next year would have to be cancelled.
  7. Ive just read the Original Plant of the apes,by Pierre Boulles, the Charlton Heston film is a very good and intelligent interpretation of the book (not identical) but a very good interpretation the ending of the film with the statue of liberty is a very good abbreviation of the ending in the book. (Tim Burton film was an insult to the book) but the more recent films are OK and also based on passages in Pierre Boulles book. I can see the statue of liberty in the center of the Olympic stadium may be keeled over sticking out the sand as in the film, then becoming more upright by the end of the ceremony.
  8. Another thought...... The Paris Olympics could celebrate the work of french writer Pierre Boulle La Planète des singes
  9. I hope they don't try to take the credit for any British inventions like the bicycle Tennis ect
  10. The London 2012 cauldron should be moved from the Museum of London to the Olympic park which is where it belongs. It was also disappointing for visitors to the London 2012 Olympic park during the Olympics that the cauldron couldn't be seen from outside the stadium if they didn't have tickets for that. So what ever Tokyo do they should make sure the cauldron has maximum visibility
  11. I don't believe the statistics from any country. I don't believe the statistics from any country
  12. It would be nice to see some sort of ceremony when the Olympic should have started. may be the Ainu could do that there is so much to like about Japanese culture ancient and modern I love those japanes wood block prints as well as Studio Ghibli
  13. https://www.nationalgeographic.co.uk/travel/2019/12/discovering-the-way-the-warrior-japans-fukushima-prefecture Very nice
  14. They must keep it burning, and they should hold a symbolic ceremony on the date Tokyo 2020 should have started.
  15. I wouldn't have liked London 2012 to become london 2013. So I think its good to keep the same name for what ever the reason.
  16. it was agreed that the Olympic flame will stay in Japan. It was also agreed that the Games will keep the name Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.” – Joint Statement I agree with this, its the postponement of the same event not the creation of a new one.
  17. They should still call it Tokyo 2020 and keep the flame burning, may be hold some small event on the day it should have started. My sympathies at the moment are with the People of Tokyo.
  18. Editor's note: This story has been edited to clarify that the Tokyo Olympics have not been officially postponed yet. I don't admire Canada decision to pull out. The games are under review and they could have waited Olympic games have host nations that should be respected postponing an olympics isent somthing you skip and dance into.
  19. So exiting when the torch was in London 2012. I Hope for the Japanese people the games goes ahead as planned.
  20. "On the one hand, there are significant improvements in Japan where the people are warmly welcoming the Olympic flame. This could strengthen the IOC’s confidence in the Japanese hosts that the IOC could, with certain safety restrictions, organise Olympic Games in the country whilst respecting its principle of safeguarding the health of everyone involved. On the other hand, there is a dramatic increase in cases and new outbreaks of COVID-19 in different countries on different continents. This led the EB to the conclusion that the IOC needs to take the next step in its scenario-planning. " I still hope for the first of these options . I prize the event in itself.
  21. I didn't us the words going ahead I said " still currently planned " which is the current position from the wimbledon website. the bit about the meteorite is making the point that move the Olympics and every Olympics from now on will come under pressure for one reason or another. The Olympics is actually lucky its already in late summer.
  22. Wimbledon is still currently planned and that's a month before the Olympics. Wimbledon can't be moved. it has to be on the summer solstice. My feelings are, move the Olympics and the Earth could be struck by a giant Meteorite. Theres never a perfect time for anything!!!!!
  23. I think the Olympics have to go ahead come hell or high water, otherwise all major events in the future will come under pressure from delay, cancellation, for a hole avalanche of possible reasons.
