  1. Oh, i do heard there was some international volunteers. You got some dedication to come volunteer from Singapore to lesser multisport event like this, i hope you enjoying stay in our city
  2. I gonna post as this even thru it just talking but it's interesting info which is not much visible even in Polish media and who knows what to what this can grow in to. When i find it was supprice for me, i to time to time google "Igrzyska w Polsce" ("olympics in in poland") in hope of potential olympics in Poland and i find this. In January of this year majors of Szklarska Poręba and Karpacz got crazy idea to bid for Olympics entire region of Karkonosze in 2030 (so it would be named Karkonosze 2030). Karonosze is mountain region in Lower Silesia (Dolnośląskie) between Polish and Czech border, it quite near place where famous "golden train" supposely is which was talk about worldwide if you heard that. Szklarska Poręba alone is 2nd known winter city in Town aside of Zakopane (or maybe i think it that way as it is in quite near me) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krkonoše As it is in Czech border, they wan to cooperate with them too and go beyond the region and even involve Germans and there snow track (but latest news shows they throw this idea away) and even involve near by Wrocław and Prague for ceremonies, they want to utilize favorable Agenda 2020 which eliminates compacty of Olympics. They talk about using Harrachov for ski jumping (here note that this complex current condition is very bad to no say tragic and needs huge renovation), Szklarska Poręba would take cross country (there was 2 world cup even when Kowalczyk was in form), alpine sking would be in Szczyrk and Špindlerův Mlýn, Karpacz is said to be potential place for luge track, Jelenia góra which is one of bigger cities in region would be place for indoor arenas. I want to point one that this for the first time where other region then Małopolska with Zakopane and Kraków which thinks of making winter olympics in Poland. Imo biggest issue (without looking on obvious money issue here ofcorse) of this region is low investment in sport, aside of of being typical tourist ski location this region is not much known for winter sport, fact that ski jumping the most popular winter discipline in Poland, would be in Harrachov shows that perfectly. The overall atmosphere in media about it as you may guess is very septic after debacle which Kraków 2022 was (which in imo was some kind of public money drain campaign). The reason why i even written this is fact that they actually talked to government and PKOL (Polish NOC) about this, after Kraków 2022 both bodies are also sceptic about. Major problem here is the same as currently in entire Europe, people don't want wasting money, PKOL made it clear that the referendum will be required before even starting anything official (do i need to mention Kraków 2022 here again? ;p), minister of sport saying they will keep idea in distance for exact same reasons, until people will wanted, but looking on comments under news... i do not think they like the idea for now at least. The news i read mention 2020 as potential year for this referendum, which due to spread nature of idea might be diffult both logistically and legally as we not talking here about one city or even country. If refrendum happens, this will probably be moment when whole country gonna talk about it. Here some links (polish so you need to use translator): http://www.przegladsportowy.pl/igrzyska-olimpijskie,wladze-karpacza-i-szklarskiej-poreby-walcza-o-igrzyska,artykul,749774,1,969.html http://eurosport.onet.pl/zimowe/karkonosze-2030-zrobmy-to-byle-z-glowa/6q2lqh http://www.gazetawroclawska.pl/sport/sporty-zimowe/a/zimowe-igrzyska-olimpijskie-w-karkonoszach-w-2030-roku-zdjecia,11674388/ http://www.radiowroclaw.pl/articles/view/63713/Zimowe-igrzyska-w-Karkonoszach-To-nie-mrzonki-ROZMOWA-DNIA (interview with major of Szklarska Poręba) Again as i said for now it is just talking and dreams and media coverage of it is very low, but since this is best place to talk about potential bids i think it's at least worth posting here to inform international bid-loving community about those talks, the think might silently just die of over time specially after next local elections next year. If anything significant happens regarding this will post info about it.
  3. So i see this event got forgotten here ;p as you may (not) know it already started I wanted to post my review of opening ceremony and overall atmosphere as it not only happens in my country but also my city. In short, opening ceremony was huge disappointment for me, and it was not just because budget which is understable, but thematically. As pole i expect a just a bit of Polish history and traditions. insted whole event was turn in to promotion of city and only historical things was showcase of old films taken in city from varius events which because Wrocław was in most time of it's existance not polish it only includes 20th century, other then that there was city promotional songs how there is "no war" and how Wrocław is city of "various people without hate", typical left propaganda which i eye rolled. To make things more funny about it, aside of fact that all flags was rised at same time (which in world games, is flag of world games, olympic flag and host country flag) which was very odd. it included 4th flag which was flag of city, which i never seen something like that even in local events. Decoration was very sporadic and i can count in fingers in single had, it was 1. 3x scenes center, main stage and orchestra stage 2. 2x posters with some World games graphics which was rolled out in beginning of event and sit there to end of event 3. ton of people (volontiers) in dwarfs hats which is icon of our city. Thats it! nothing more. Now lack of decorations hint major disappointment of this event, i can live without any tradition and history stuff, but there was practically 0 theatrical typical for this kind of event and something you expect, insted whole event concetrated on music (and in city this event was adrvitised as music event which very odd for me too, so i guess i should expect that)..... and this not main disappointment about it, but most music there was not original and by that i mean it was not music of people that sing there and most of them was not even Polish, to makes things more more funny, the event started with "musical oleastra" which insted to play something Polish, they play mix of modern international music... including hiphop. Polsat Sport commentator in one moment described this event perfectly, this looksed morel like closing ceremony then opening ceremony, and imo even if you consider it closing ceremony it still was lacklaster. I seen a lot better opening ceremonies in Poland then this which suppose to have more Olympic feeling (and only there was Bach, olympic flag and atletes parade which Polsat went all NBC and cut it with astronomicaly long advertisements, i seen more adverts then parade), insted it it was not much different from typical Polish new year concert, minus disco polo music (thank god). I was considering buying tickets for this as i'm Olympics fan and this was life time chance to see this kind of event live.... now i'm really happy i didn't wasted money for this, something i can see for free multiple times a year, i would rether see Euro 2012 opening ceremony live. As for atmosphere, you need go to city center to see any signs of event, other events even less spectacular had a lot more city coverage. Only thing which i actully feel happy about it fact you can see athletes and treners normally walking around you even in neiberhood around home buildings, i was presently suppriced about that.
  4. Then he can be biased like that, i know lot of Polish people who would tell you same stories about Poland and Kaczyński, but they can be over the extreme, and if you talk to other people they gonna tell you the opposite and they can be over the extreme too. It all depends on there political opinion, values and awareness of things, as well as actual interest in politic affairs. I have 0 idea how Hungarian opposition, but i know the Orban got on lead when prime minister at time got caught on tape being happy how much he is a "liar". I personally from my neutral look from what i look, Orban is not as extremest as Erdogan or Putin for large degree, if orban did extreme things to level of those 2, Polish mainstream media which is mostly Pro-EU and (<-- just by that) anti-Orban would raport it without 2nd thouth. In case of China, it's not just sports, politics who hate each other in daily basis in Europe filtering with them ;p You need to remeber that reason why lot of high budget games go to dictatorial countries, because other countries have problem to senstain them or even with huge political will people not support them, i think 2022 host selection expoposed that very well, doing winter olympic in Bejing alone non-politicly sounds crazy and out of place.
  5. Based on whats happening in my country, anyone going against mainstream politic narrative of EU can be easily declared by west media as dictator which "follow the steps of Putin and Erdogan" if not son of Hitler just by that fact alone, when political opposition do same BS if not worse. Things can look different from inside then outside. Other then deal with Putin on nuclear plant which i see negatively, i don't know other affairs of Hungary enough to properly jurge Orban enough, i see him OKish from what i know. Besides if people don't have issue with China which is openly dictatorial (and for some reason most people don't care about it) i don't know how Hungary or even Russia is a issue.

  7. One thing for sure, we gonna have another over the top opening ceremony
  8. Only underdog Budapest fall and now potential double host selection of biggest olympic big shots only shows that agenda 2020 does not work as it suppose to, there won't be unique summer host city in 2020s.
  9. Ghost in the Shell is known anime series... but it don't think they would use it as inspiration ^^' I would look more on anime targeted for kids. Japanese in terms of character art designs are in top of the world, they got more supply of mascots then it's needed ;p so i would not be worried about it too much.... but there is slight degree of possibility they do something weird knowing them
  10. Yea, i got use to TVP commentators which are more lively during big moments then ones in Eurosport, not to mention TVP guaranties that concentration on Polish athletes. TVP also means free internet broadcast, but sadly it probably wont be as extend as it was in Rio or Sochi when had full rights and showed all that OBS given them, it wont issue with Winter but in Summer Olympics this might be problem. Where are you from? You know Poland was also quite weak in winter Olympics too, it was success to get even 1 medal, for long time gold from Sapporo 1972 was only one and only have 4 medals until Salt Lake. But ever since Adam Małysz success our winter sports are having renessase, in Vancover we doubled our medal count and we got 2nd gold medal in history and and we get same number in Sochi but this time we tripled our gold medal count by getting 4 golds. So all it needed is a spark, or else you really a country really is without mountains and snow, which is know issue with winter olympics, and even bigger challenge to host them.
  11. Great news for Olympic fans in Poland, TVP (national public broadcaster) buys sub-licence from Discovery (Eurosport owner) for PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020, which means those events will be accessible as much as possible in new reality of IOC deals in europe, which makes me happy ^^ http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2017/01/31/tvp-inks-discovery-olympics-deal/ In Poland after controversial limited access to man volleyball world cup in our country by Polsat (which Poland won to make things more ironic) we have regulation that forces broadcaster to transmit importent sport events with Polish participation which includes olimpics openly nation-wide, so Discovery was forced to sell this sublicence somebody here, but still it's better for TVP to have it then Polsat

  18. Paralympic Tokyo promo looked very similar they even had same light boxes and it ended and begin the same way, minus anime minus mario prime minister, so it was not so wowy . Rio paralympics closing ceremony stage setup was more for concert, but they handled it well in this limiting setup
