  1. Well, if the facilities are not being built for their beauty then why build them at all? Why do you think people visit Venice or Rome or Athens? A whole lot of it has to do with the architecture that expresses the dynamism of the cultures that spawned such architecture. It's why people visit New YorK , Toronto, Sydney, Dubai. I think vancouver's legacy will suffer because the buildings, in less than 10 years after the games, will simply fall out of style curbing the city's potential to be a hotbet of great architectural expression for the future. Only great fashion lasts.

  2. I actually liked the CBC studio presentation better than our own NBC. It was more visually stunning than the NBC fung shui type studio. Canadians are known and recognised internationally to be somewhat mediocre because of their unhealthy addiction to modesty but I think they may have shown some heart here.

  3. I sorta agree with Michale Warren. It is almost unbelieveable that Beijing missed, once more, the opulence factor. That is so unlike the Chinese. The tower of people in the centre, echoed Moscow 1980 and that segment when they changed it into a stemm of opening flowers was the highlight of the show form me. I was pretty upset with vancouver's handover presentation in Torino but I think London may have equalled it. The striking thing is, London 2012 video was almost a carbon copy of Vancouver's in Torino!

The best thing was the fireworks.

Rogge Looked a bit worried to me.

  4. Firstly, there is no comparison. Realistically, anyone who is thinking clearly and balanced would conclude that comparing swimming to athletics is like comparing peaches and oranges so the grestest argument does not apply here.

However, I'm leaning towards Bolt beacuse he certainly did not have the sports infrastructure where as Phelps did. Additionally, Phelps doesn't really have a story of struggle like Bolt during childhood and overcoming odds is wha the Olympics is really about , so Bolt's personal story really crushes Phelps'.

another factor one has to consider is how both athletes won their "defining" medals. One of Phelp's races was desputable but Bolt won the 200 metres by the largest factor in Olympic History.

Rogge doesn't know what its like to have gone through what Hussine went through and reach the top of the world so he is way off.

  5. Here is something I posted in the athletics forum. Hope it cheers you up

"Well, let me say this also. I think that of all the developed countries, Canada in general and Mr. Dick Pound, in specific both need to be recognised and congratulated formally by the IOC for the tireless work they have done in fighting the scourge of Doping in international sport. Sure, Canada doesn't medal nearly as high as we do and canadians congratulate their athletes for placing 29th out of 30 in an event but the thing is, of all the devloped countries, they have demonstrated the most respect for the Olympic ideals of fair and clean participation. I just wish the USA could have such a glistening record also. "
