    New Olympic Sports?

Kendegra, I think Rogge has the right idea of switching sports in an out, but I think that they are going about it in the wrong way. Also I find it strange that they want to limit the number of events, whats wrong with adding 5 more swimming events to bring it in line with the world championships, come on is it that hard to pay an extra 2500 dollars for 5 more sets of medals? Same with rowing, canoe/kayak, wrestling (come on the **** on, the IOC has no right to change the classic classes to save a couple grand) Maybe the IOC should do what I did for the 2028 and take a leaf out of the commonwealth games, have a set lists of sports and a secondary list of sports that the host can choose. Of course the IOC and the IFs would be pissed at that idea. Also is it really hard to put golf in, any city that has the capablity to bid has a major course near by, also the course can completely run the event like in the PGA. Plus only about 5,000 dollars in medals.

    New Olympic Sports?

Lets point out some things Beach and indoor volleyball are the same sport Yachting and sailing - same thing there is no way the IOC would allow all-star garage into the Olympics as you suggest in baseball and basketball ballroom dancing will never, ever be an olympic sport surfing is impossible, it would mean that only certain areas could host the games and none of them in Europe because of the waters needed for proper waves

    New Olympic Sports?

My preferance for the gold tourney would be a 64 player match-play. 5 day tourney, winner gets a lovely gold. I think love to see someone like Ernie Els or Sergio Garcia with Olympic Gold around their necks.

    New Olympic Sports?

The problem with that is that it limits the interest it could generate. Look at football at the olympics. I think a lot of professional golfers would love to be able to represent their countries at the Olympics and not treat it as some second-rate waste of time like some professionals have. Golf is not a sport where there is two competitive levels like in some sports that require amateurism. In all sports but boxing and football are the athletes the best of the best, disregarding amateur and professional. In fact by pierre definitions, all athletes that compete now are professional. Also it would be hypocritical for the IOC to say that professional basketball, tennis, ice hockey, volleyball, field hockey, handball, and a few other sport's athletes to play and not golfers.

    Ceremonies On Youtube

I loved the performance of the Italian anthem, it was great, unfortunately the dvd of the ceremonies I have does not include it. I have tried to find two clips from Sydney the anthem and the lighting, but can't, i know one of them is on the IOC site, but its poor quality.

If it is as Baron has described the logical cities would be Athens Istanbul Rome Berlin Paris Madrid or Barcelona London Toronto Vancouver Los Angelos San Francisco New York City Sydney and then fellow Asian cities like Ho Chi Minh City Bangkok Delhi Mumbai Islamabad Seoul I would say Tokyo would that would cause an upraising and than all the major cities in China, I would assume it would entire in Hong Kong

    Beijing Olympic Torch Relay

That rout would be impossible with the current political climate.
  10. So, China, Japan, Australia, Canada, India, South Africa, Brazil, Spain, Britain, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Sweden, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, and the other 201 nations that have contracts with the IOC that far outweighs what the US pays. CBC's current contract was 9 figures, the same is probably true of every major country. The competition for the Olympic rights in the US is the reason they pay more then other countries were its one or two companies bidding. That is not the IOC's fault and the IOC, BOGOC and the athletes. Also Coca Cola's contract with the IOC is in the low billions, so the IOC can survive without the US.
  11. Baron 4 billion people alone watch the Opening ceremonies for at least one half hour. So that throughs your 1.5 billion out the window. Also I said combined audience, as in the viewership numbers from every half hour of every hour of everyday for all 17 days. As with the World Cup which had a viewership of 32 billion combined from all 64 matches. The same thing happens with the Olympics. Though other then the opening an closing ceremonies, for some events there is easily viewership of between 100 million and 500 million. Think about it, how many hours would you say you watch per games. I beat that almost everyone on here gets counted in the ratings a good 100 times, the average sportsfan maybe 15 to 20 over the fortnight. So maybe about 1.5 billion people are responcible for all the ratings, but the combined ratings would still be a fair bit larger then the population of the earth because of the multiple counting.
  12. A COMBINED AUDIENCE OF CLOSE TO 25 BILLION PEOPLE WATCH THE OLMYPIC GAMES WHEN THEY COME AROUND, THEY AIN'T ALL AMERICANS, IN FACT VIEWERSHIP BY PRESENTATION IS MUCH LOWER IN THE UNITED STATES THEN IN THE NEXT 14 NATIONS. SO NBC CAN SHOVE IT UP THEIR UPTIGHT FCC-BOWING ARSE
  13. I love events in Europe because of the timing. For the events to be held in PT in the EST they would have to go from 7 to 10am in Beijing. Thats stupid.
  14. I have no problems getting up at 6 or so to watch swimming or whatever sports there is on the evening. I bloody well got up at 2 to watch rowing and canoe/kayaking in Athens.
  15. If Beijing follows Sydney's program it will be fine.

    Waterfront Stadium

Does it really hurt, Vancouver could build a stadium like the new Landsdown Road, or a stadium like Gelsenkirchen.

    Waterfront Stadium

It would be interesting and would hopefully encourage an MLS team to come to Vancouver.
  18. Dallas Green from Alexisonfire would have been good
  19. i think stuff like Mobile, Sam Roberts, the Trews, the Tragicly Hip are more reflective of the Canadian sound than Avril even someone like Paul Brant(sp) would be more suitably Canadian than Avril - the girls so pretentious her names Avril instead of April
  20. i think it will be s h i t - like anything that is suppose to be cultural that comes out of this wasteland of popular culture
  21. well as a member of the Canadian youth culture - Avril is not apart of it, she is apart of the tween culture. Pop culture my have culture in it, but its not culture if it was one of are actual good singers/bands there would be no problem - but a wannabe? its pathetic
  22. its seriously disgusting - at least you could have made it sara or the trews or sam roberts, or the tragically hip

    Amsterdam 1992

you can't compare Leipzig in Germany to Amsterdam in the Netherlands, one has over 80 million people behind it and Europe's largest economy, compared to the 8th smallest western European economy in the netherlands only ahead of the likes of Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. A smaller city in Germany would be able to host an olympics because of the large country behind it, whereas a smaller international city like Amsterdam and a small country like the Netherlands Athens was the smallest city and country to host the Olympics in 52 years, and it wasn't exactly the greatest Olympics, the IOC may want to get smaller, but still have size behind you matters hence why Toulouse, Lille, etc aren't bidding for France and Manchester and the B city failed for the UK
