  1. Right just so everyone knows, neither of the two contenders has a problem with an extension due to the outage yesterday - apparently it was down for 10 hours so I'll add that on, plus a little bit to account for me not being able to be around for most of the morning. So the new deadline for votes is 12PM UK time, Wednesday January 10. So there's just a little under 24 hours to go now. Thank you for your patience
  2. Alexa, play me something connected to Paris 2024! I say connected to Paris 2024, my French is not too great, especially when it comes to understanding a native speaker at full pelt - but I saw this during the New Year show, which they extremely nicely let foreigners watch (Merci!) and I think they said this was the official song of the Torch Relay for Paris. Any French members might be able to confirm/put me right. Anyway, welcome to Albertville! This is very much connected to the Olympics - Winter host city in 1992, it is (until May) the last place to see a French Olympic flame on French soil. For a bit longer, until 2030, it'll remain the last French city to host a Winter Olympics. Talking about 2030, let's see how the logo comp is going - the results from Grenoble are: A: 7. B: 1. C: 5. D:1. Just like in Chamonix, we couldn't find a majority - although we came as close as it's possible to get - but we have two clear leaders, so we will say goodbye to @Scotguy II & @Victorian and move the final two to the final round. And for that final round, here are THE RULES: This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Tuesday January 9. Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner. As there are only two left, that must happen in this round. Again, it's the final round with only two candidates, so whoever gets more votes wins it all. As I explain below, if they're level, I reserve the casting vote. Vote in the poll for your favourite logo. You have ONE vote, so make it count. Your vote is public and can be seen by all. Entrants MAY NOT vote for their own logo. For transparency, I will not vote unless required to break a tie. Votes are valid if cast by members of GamesBids as of January 1 2024 with a bona fide posting record. I will rule on the validity of any suspicious or disputed votes, or who constitutes a bona fide voting member. I will not vote in this, or any subsequent rounds. However, if a tie-breaker vote is needed, I will reserve my right to vote in order to break it. Be fair and sportsmanlike, this is meant to be fun and the entrants all deserve RESPECT. Whatever happens, our next gathering on Tuesday will be the announcement in Nice itself, where the President awaits us. In the meantime, bonne chance!
  3. BONGx10! The voting is now closed, please proceed...to 1992!
  4. Well I don't know about the practical aspects, just that it looks most logical. Is there anywhere in the US that could do it, if there'd be any interest at all?
  5. Wouldn't LA be best? Get the Games a host, while giving LA a test event for 28, fill the gap in that 3 year run of World Cup - 27 - Olympics, get the US interested in the Pan Ams again... everyone wins.
  6. I can't say right now, it'll depend when the Nice vote ends. When that one ends I'll give a day or two for final submissions, then get Dublin started Also there's a little over 24 hours (nearer 26) left to vote!
  7. Well they're probably in pole position for the next logo comp lol
  8. Whichever one of these wins will also be the first 2030 logo with any kind of status so the Google potential is even higher than usual
  9. Alexa, I need a French musical duo who like privacy. Some big names to welcome us to Round 2, and to welcome our French journey to the swinging 60s - welcome to Grenoble! Just look at that cable car, it's adorable! Anyway, we're in the 1968 host city because the 1924 one didn't cause a winner. Here's what went down in Chamonix: A: 6. B: 2. C: 3. D: 0. E: 1. F: 2. No majority, so we must say goodbye to @PikyoK & @Glacib and then go again: as we enter round 2, here are THE RULES: This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Sunday January 7. Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner. In this and following rounds, the logo with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated at the close of the poll. All logos that get 0 votes will be eliminated, even if there are multiple. On Sunday, unless we get a winner here, we will move to 1992 & the last French Olympic city (until July). In the meantime, bonne chance!
  10. What did they do?! (And how many handbacks/strippings of multi sports Games will there be before we need to start asking whether the contracts are the problem...)
  11. Alexa, what would be a way to clearly show everyone that we are in France in this special year? Anyone still in doubt? Don't be fooled by the Tower, we're not in Paris but we're still celebrating a 2024 Olympic centenary in Chamonix! On January 25, just 22 days away, we will celebrate 100 years of the Winter Olympics, born right here under Mont Blanc. With the Games returning to the French Alps in 2030, there's nowhere better to be to begin the journey there, and no better way to do it than to find a logo for them, since they don't have one yet! Here's how we do it, THE RULES: This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Friday January 5. Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner. In this and following rounds, the logo with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated at the close of the poll. All logos that get 0 votes will be eliminated, even if there are multiple, and if there's a tie at the bottom in this round, all logos involved in the tie will be eliminated to save needing a runoff. However, if a tie-breaker vote is needed, I will reserve my right to vote in order to break it. Be fair and sportsmanlike, this is meant to be fun and the entrants all deserve RESPECT. We will continue our journey through French Olympic history on Friday, unless you give us a winner here. In the meantime, bonne chance!
  12. BONG! BONG! It's 2pm, so like I said, it's time to bring the submission period for Nice to an end. The voting will begin with Round 1 starting tonight. Submission for Dublin will remain open just in case until the Nice vote ends, as is traditional. Thank you to everyone who's put a design up for judgement
  13. Thank you for clarifying @Bear This is a very much final call - as already said I intend to start the voting rounds tomorrow night so submission for Nice will end at 2PM UK time tomorrow.
  14. Watched the whole New Year's Eve show from Paris on TV5 Monde last night, just gone 8 to nearly midnight UK time. It's fair to say we're in safe hands, can't wait for July 26
  15. I've basically already said everything I would've done now, but as we get to 1pm here in GMT, and midnight in Rolsville, I would just like to wish everyone a happy new Olympic year Submissions for Nice will remain open during tomorrow and Tuesday, voting will begin on Wednesday. Dublin will of course remain open until the Nice vote is over. To 2024!
  16. I was going to leave this until tomorrow, but this is the opportunity lol. I'm hoping to start the voting on January 3, I'll do the post up during the afternoon UK time so that's when I'll need all the winter logos in. As always, winter first. We'll pass the deadline tomorrow as promised but I'm not a monster so any winter logos submitted on New Year's Day or January 2 will still be accepted, and as always Dublin as the summer city will be open for submission during the winter voting. @Bear & @Glacib have both submitted Dublin logos but haven't gone in for Nice yet - you have time! We stay committed to transparency and openness, even if nobody else does
  17. I think I will give an extension, but not a long one. I don't want the voting to go dragging into February again, so probably only a week. I'll make sure Rols is ok for doing the grids on that timing, then formally say what's happening tomorrow. Keep submitting
  18. Starting to think they'll be going to Stade de France after all for the ceremony proper, maybe with some show elements on the Seine. Like a bigger scale version of Melbourne 2006. If they do, they should get it announced ASAP so the team can make the new version of the show, have enough time to make the whole thing work in that format.
  19. IIIIIIT'S (very nearly) CHRIIIIIIIISTMAAAAAAS! Are you hanging up the stocking on your wall? Are you hoping that the snow will start to fall? Are you in Australia, where you're more likely to want to cool down in the sea than slide on down the hillside? Wherever you might be, I am here in the classic British Christmas weather (mild, dull, raining), and I am making an intervention - I like to keep hands-off in this stage, as you can tell, but what could be more worthy of coming in than to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS! It's Christmas Eve, which means it's exactly one week until NYE! So I'm doing our traditional mass @ to everyone previously targeted at the start, plus some from last year's @, with a warm seasonal greeting to everyone involved: @Bear @TinaAus @Palette86 @Victorian @cfm Jeremie @Anthony @Guilga @AustralianFan @zigzag @TorchbearerSydney @Olympian1010 @JDCLauron @BigVic @ulu @krow @Glacib @Australian Kiwi @Karenina @PikyoK @Qss212 @baron-pierreIV @AliciasBlade @paul @fatixxx @Mr Tickle @Aussie bum @Lord David @Rob2012 @thatsnotmypuppy @mr.bernham @woohooitsme83 @VIK @JMarkSnow2012 @nzl @Utkarsh Verma @Athensfan @Citius Altius Fortius @JO2024 @Nacholympic @aismanggo @Jon Will Chambers @DannyelBrazil @ScoBit @Fiorenzo @pcutone @Olympic Fan Darcy @Athens 2004 forever Only Scotguy and Rols have submitted both - Bear has a summer one but Nice is waiting for him. We would of course like to see more, especially during the festive period
  20. Tbh the Courier Mail is just the Brisbane paper I know is there - remember I'm on the wrong side of the world - so I assumed it was the main one. If it's Murdoch that adds a big pinch of salt to it. Still afraid that this talk wouldn't be out there at all if all was well. Is this very much about the Gabba rather than the Olympics as a whole?
  21. What will they do instead then? Apart from do a Dan? I must say that's really knocked my optimism about that not happening, it surely wouldn't appear in Brisbane's main paper with absolutely nothing to it. I wonder how he'll do it - call a referendum?
  22. I agree, but I'm not just talking about status. I'm basically going on what I - as a layman utterly unqualified & on the wrong side of the world - would imagine Brisbane would want as its main stadium, and be best value for its billion dollars. And, selfishly, what could make the first day of the Ashes an even greater theatre than it is. Australia is lucky, it's probably the only country on the planet (maybe with India?) to have a legacy use guaranteed whatever happens, so that's not a problem. They'd be going for looks if they tried to match the MCG - something like Perth I'd have thought would be ideal. As for Gold Coast seeking status, that could be relevant if Brisbane city get cold feet on the Gabba - I'd expect GC to be in like a shot with their stadium then. PS if anyone thinks they can do design, of a logo variety, there's a hypothetical and a real Olympics that you could help out! The GB logo comp is open here:
