Important rule for life: never ever mess with a cat

Is it now an Olympic tradition for some aspect of the Games to be let down by a duff contractor? G4S with security in London, I don't remember a specific example for Rio, Dentsu with basically everything they touched in Tokyo, now this Sodexo with the food in Paris

It's that time every four years where I wonder how & why we Brits never developed a handball culture. Fast, exciting, usually close finishes*, great sport to watch, & it's not like we don't have the climate *except the one right now
-
Oh, I like Spain* - I'd like to see Madrid host one day, once they get the hang of bidding for Olympics they might actually win. *Except when they're beating England in major football tournament finals. But even so, I want our Thierry to have some success as a manager. Then he can take over the proper team & France might try to score some goals at the next World Cup...

Magnificent event - best thing in the rowing/canoeing/similar stuff programme. It's like Mario Kart meets Gladiators meets Total Wipeout, all in white water. Let it stay!

True - & I think we've learned at these games that you can create an amazing atmosphere in any venue, not just Stade de France. Parc des Princes doesn't have a track so actually, just for this, it's better. You're playing Spain less than a month after the Euros so you might have quite widespread support from this side of the Channel

At least Thierry is still on track Shame the final couldn't be at Stade de France really...

I thought handball (in football) VAR was supposed to work quicker & better in internationals?

I assume the top of the posts is 6.50? He could probably clear that too Looks like a nice little area too @sebastien1214 good to see you can still enjoy a lot without a ticket.

I don't know if the organisers of future Olympics read this forum, but someone needs to tell LA that they need a new pole vault setup. Duplantis didn't just clear the bar, he cleared the posts

Switching allegiance for the football - Allez Les Bleus! Allez Thierry! Edit: oh, Lacazette too! Haven't heard from him for a while Double edit: this isn't going very well is it. Surprised at how many of the French team I've never heard of, there's a few I know but by no means all. And Lacazette is passing the ball as well as he used to for Arsenal

KEELEY! Finally, she's gone one better

Yeah that was a shock & a blow. I suspect she came in too high, way higher than everyone else came in

Germany targets 2040 Olympic bid, steering clear of 100th anniversary

That's a good point I hadn't thought of. The tightness of Paris is really really helping, even through TV. Birmingham's oddly small city centre helped its Commonwealth Games too. Could even a regional model like Rhine Ruhr (or Brisbane) have this vibe? -
Yeah, plus being a country where an Olympic bid is a vote winner rather than loser could help. If it's London 4, then it should be fairly cheap, we'd probably only need the village. If it's the North, or Scotland, or the Midlands then you're talking a bit more building, & entering difficult territory with the stadium, but it'd be stuff that'll mostly get used. That said I still say there's no way we should get another one before any of the usual Euro suspects. If somehow it's Europe's turn & all of them fall through, even Madrid & Istanbul, then maybe a British bid could skip the queue, as I say we wouldn't struggle for support. But you know what we're like with queues

It's been exactly the right Games at exactly the right time after the last few years & especially Tokyo. It's a shame for the future that Tom will try his best to waste the momentum in getting bidders in but as for the Games & the city, it's hard to imagine it being any better. I hope LA can live up to it, having not seen 84 I'm quite excited for it tbh

We've got Germany, Madrid, Rome, Istanbul in Europe at the very least to tick off, probably others too (Netherlands? Warsaw?) before anyone even thinks of four - assuming they all want it. Hence why London 2040 has to rank as one of Sadiq's more gaga ideas. Also I think there's more likelihood of our next bid being regional rather than London 4, even if London might well be our only chance to host. As for Paris... well if Athens isn't plausible or doesn't want it then there's obviously nowhere better for the bicentennial. Although given how you're unusual in Europe in not needing referendums, number 4 could well come earlier (2060ish maybe?) - & I don't think anyone will mind

The hosting of two Winter games this century should probably count against Italy if they were in a straight fight with Germany or even Spain though. A second Rome Olympics would obviously be a spectacular setting - opening ceremony at the Circus Maximus anyone? -
I wish they wouldn't keep showing aerial views tonight. The sky looks absolutely stunning & it's just sad after how the ceremony went

So Munich wants to bid, but only if it's not Munich alone...o..k . Where would join Munich? It's very remote from the other usual German candidates. Stuttgart maybe? Nuremberg? Or do you look over the Austrian border at Salzburg or even any near parts of Switzerland to share it out? -
Best starting method ever

They're really fun mascots tbf. There seems to be a competition going to get one into the craziest situation with the jetski, train etc - looking forward to seeing where they get to over the next week
