I have a question mainly for our Aussie members. I've read online that there were fairly large scale opening ceremonies held at each venue for the start of the soccer tournament at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Does anyone know anything more about these, or have pics/videos? I've not heard of similar things at any other games.

I don't think the OC of Melbourne 96 would have been as good, because the city wouldn't have needed to "beat" Sydney. Outdoing 2000 was a main reason why the 06 shows were so big. Does anyone have the bid book/s for Melbourne 96?

JJ- Wow, he was a right one. I haven't looked through it all yet, but I can see what Rols means - this place was obviously very bitter back then. Thank goodness we don't have anyone that bad here now.
