  1. Re: Sheffield 91, I've found a fair few pics at a site called picturesheffield.com, of which I think this is the most interesting. https://www.hpacde.org.uk/picturesheffield/jpgh_sheffield/s24740.jpg It looks like a early version of pandemonium from London 2012, does anyone here have a vid or even just remember this? BTW, after seeing what Shenzhen & Kazan did, it's fair to say that these games have come on a bit
  2. OMG. It's been coming for a while, everyone thought they'd do Vancouver, but they didn't. 2015 could make Albertville seem normal
  3. Don't hold back, krow, you say what you think!
  4. Sorry, I do have a tendency to go off a bit in real life lol. As for Turkey, I think they should go after the Euro or even the World Cup first, or possibly the Muslim games. Turkey is the kind of country that could use some major experience, as it's not a major power. Unfortunately as a European country, there isn't much chance to get multisport experience. I think Istanbul should go after the Euro games ASAP, a great staging of those could do for them what the Pan Am did for Rio.
  5. I didn't have any problem with it. Try punching your computer, that often works for me
  6. Oh yes, France 98. Seen that on YouTube, probably the single most bizarre ceremony ever seen Don't know about the ceremony in the Stade de France, I've seen pictures of it with people dressed as gardens, but not seen a proper vid of it.
  7. The other Sydney 2000 OC...the Paralympic one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm_wCshclJw That's part one, the title says it's full, so the rest must be somewhere on that channel. Enjoy! (My first scoop!)
  8. Changed my avatar...my name has context now. Waaa!

BTW, I'm from Bristol, not Japan. Close :P

      Sir Rols

We never get many japanese - they don't tend to go on English language sites.

  9. Well, the way we're going it might well be 10 billion by 2022.
  10. Are there any clips of the 1991 Universiade OC in Sheffield on the web (other than the "Sharman moment", we've all seen that) It was the first ceremony in England in the post-84 era, I'd like to see how we did. Thanks
  11. If they had an actual event at the Colosseum, like fencing for example, it would be one of the all-time iconic images of Olympic history. That said, I'd rather Paris hosted before Rome.
  12. What's it like in Qatar at this time of year? Or in March/April? Could they stage WC around now?
  13. What did you think of Albertville & France 98, baron? That's their major ceremonial experience.
  14. It all depends when Durban bid. When they bid, they'll win, & an announcement on whether they'll bid for 2024 would make the races up to 2032 much easier to predict.
  15. Looks like they're gonna try anything to make this work. If it goes wrong, it'll go very, very wrong.
  16. I put it in here because the theme of sigs & the idea of digging the thread up originated here. Now it's noticed, I suppose finding the thread again & bumping it would suffice, as it's in the 2012 forum. In any case just to get back to topic, baron, what would you expect from an eventual Paris OC? Albertville on steroids I guess
  17. Look what I digged up http://www.gamesbids.com/forums/topic/17622-daveypodmores-sigs-a-retrospective/ Now if only we could find a way to update it...
  18. Those logos, especially Buenos Aires & Cape Town, would've looked very futuristic back in 97 when the process was happening. I'd particularly like to see the Stockholm plans, the venues would've been quite something knowing Swedish design.
  19. This is going to cause a huge war between FAs & leagues/clubs. Could be very damaging for football.
  20. Los Angeles lol. AF, we pretty much agree that you now need a megacity to host the SOG. The 4 US cities mentioned time & again are New York, Chicago, San Fran, & LA. It's been said that NYC aren't really interested in bidding, & the same probably goes for Chicago after 09. The IOC won't want to go to a city that bids without really wanting the games. This leaves LA & SF. San Fran probably could do it, but they've been rejected twice by USOC, & it would be their first proper bid. LA has the location, the climate, the landscapes, the history to appeal to members of the IOC. Not forgetting the SCCOG, which I think I'm right in saying is unique in the world. They also have the LA84 Foundation, & all the other legacies in place. If the US wants the summer games, they should go for Los Angeles.
  21. If the US want the SOGs, they have to go to LA IMO. Acronym overload...
  22. Would the new process involve only Asian nations (in which case China here we come)?
  23. That pic is beautiful, hope the look of the games has this style.
  24. If 64 was about the war, & 98 was about simplicity, 20 should be about technology, especially in that futuristic stadium. My fear with that is that it would become tacky, hello kitty-esque, although that is part of Japan's culture so there should be nods to that maybe.
  25. Its winter. Australia is in the southern hemisphere, their winter is Qatar's summer, is Europe's summer. Lowy is saying that they bid for a tournament to be held in June/July 2022, regardless of the local climate. He wants compensation because FIFA are now changing the rules of the bid process after the process has ended to ensure the best possible chance of Qatar staging the tournament & the ExCo of FIFA thus getting their bribe money. I think Lowy is absolutely justified, Australia (& the other bidders) went into this process in good faith, not expecting that FIFA would be willing to change the very fabric of football, just to get their bribes. It's shocking how FIFA has handled this.
