  1. Here's the latest project for Luzniki stadium, home of the 2018 WC final: I have no idea if this is final, it just got posted in the SSC 2018 thread.
  2. Yes, in 20 years, we might have an IOC that's seen the problems with Sochi, Rio, & FIFA's problems in Doha, & might think that back-to-basics is just what sport needs.
  3. It's over 500 km??!! Us Brits could bid if this went through...Alpine in Aviemore, ice events in Birmingham, perfect! As I've said, I'd like to see Sweden host but I can't see how they'll get past that distance.
  4. ^^^
  5. Ok, ok, Krakow certainly looks nice enough, strong in winter sports, far enough from Sochi to feel fresh, Eastern Europe without the rights problems AFAIK. I very much doubt that Stockholm will get govt support, & I'm not sure if Oslo will. If we end up with Krakow, Almaty & Beijing, there's a good chance for Krakow. But I still have the awful feeling that the IOC will go for Beijing's $ when it comes to the vote.
  6. I was going to ask how come they need to use Slovakia. Could Bratislava bid in the future for a games held entirely in Slovakia?
  7. Oh. It's still quite a way from Stockholm though. I hope they can find a way to do it, but it's going to be extremely difficult.
  8. Woah, Are is only 1400 people?? It's barely big enough to be called a village. Maybe Sweden are a bit misguided here.
  9. Having 1.4 billion people force fed your product for seven years is a good little situation to have if you're the IOC.
  10. I agree they should've had Ostersund. But what would've happened to the arenas? Maybe they should have a snow Olympics then an ice Olympics a week later
  11. The real shame is that Ostersund/Are 2022 would've been the perfect chance to "reset" the WOG after Sochi, & to a lesser extent, PC. It could've been a modern Lillehammer, showing you could still have a modern, yet sustainable, games.
  12. Almaty 2026 is as close to a sure thing as you can get, assuming Oslo does get 2022.
  13. It was a joke. Still, you don't get sudden statements too often, certainly not from someone that high up...
  14. I bet Rob Ford is related
  15. We can only hope that Oslo stages a beautiful, natural games on a natural scale in 2022, just as Norway did so well in 94. That might tempt the Alps back, as long as there isn't another despoto-blowout in 2026.
  16. Exactly. This isn't over, Beijing can guarantee 100 percent public support, even though it'll be forced. I am starting to wonder whether the Olympics are too big for their own good after Beijing & Sochi.
  17. But why? Why does it increasingly seem that western Europe just doesn't want the Olympics? It must be the recession I guess :(
  18. Sorry if I didn't get my point over well. I was trying to say that this is the chance for Germany to host a peaceful games in a unified country. Their biggest (perhaps only) hurdle is themselves.
  19. Exactly. That's probably the single most compelling thing about Munich 22, the chance to forget 36 & 72, the chance for Germany to host a peaceful Olympics at last.
  20. I'll keep it here then, at least it'll be in English
  21. Is there going to be any kind of results broadcast on ARD tonight? And would it be streamed abroad?
  22. It looks like something our own afiqnadzir would come up with, is there any clue as to where this came from?
  23. That's such a nice logo too. Could it be used for the actual games if Toronto win?
  24. When Sweden lost, they lost with little ski villages hundreds of miles from anything. Their government needs to realise that the name Stockholm could be all they need. What if the IOC members always wanted Sweden the country, but didn't want to stay in the wilderness of Östersund or Falun?
