Alexa, we've done the south twice, we've been north, we're going east, so now play me a song of the west:

    Noooo, not the Sheeran!

That's more like it! :) The real sound of the streets (and the pubs) in the busking capital of Europe - welcome to Galway!

    1920px-Galway-Pub-12-Sonny_Molloy's-gje.

It's also one of the wettest places in Europe, but with shelters like Sonny Molloy's, who cares? We're here to drink dance vote, because we've gone all the way to the one-on-one finale. Here's how we voted up in Stroke City:

    A: 5. B: 4. C: 4.

Oh dear. This is a tie at the bottom, which means I have to make a decision - which is the last thing being in charge is supposed to be about. Still, as I don't have a John Coates available to make my decisions for me, I need to turn voter - and I have decided to cast my decisive vote in favour of C over B. With apologies to @corn_zxl, If it's any consolation I try to avoid having to do this but I'm afraid I had to knock someone out as the rules say - you've still had an amazing debut :). Talking about rules, here are the final round RULES:

This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Saturday January 20.

Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner. As there are only two left, that must happen in this round.

Again, it's the final round with only two candidates, so whoever gets more votes wins it all. As I explain below, if they're level, I reserve the casting vote.

Vote in the poll for your favourite logo. You have ONE vote, so make it count.

Your vote is public and can be seen by all.

Entrants MAY NOT vote for their own logo. For transparency, I will not vote unless required to break a tie.

Votes are valid if cast by members of GamesBids as of January 1 2024 with a bona fide posting record.

I will rule on the validity of any suspicious or disputed votes, or who constitutes a bona fide voting member.

I will not vote in this, or any subsequent rounds. However, if a tie-breaker vote is needed, I will reserve my right to vote in order to break it.

Be fair and sportsmanlike, this is meant to be fun and the entrants all deserve RESPECT.

We will gather one last time on Saturday night in Dublin's fair city, to crown the champion. Until then, good luck! :)

Alexa, play me the sound of the North...

    Or, alternatively...

I know when I promised the second city you probably thought of Cork, mainly because that's what I was planning, but then I saw that'd mean 3/3 votes in Munster...and there are three other traditional provinces you know - it's only fair to go around the Isle. And so, in the spirit of peace & reconciliation, welcome to the second city...of Northern Ireland: Derry/Londonderry! (/have they still not sorted out the Stroke City thing?):

We're on this somewhat alarming hill because we need another round! Limerick produced these results:

    A: 5. B: 3. C: 1. D: 3. E: 0.

Again no majority, which is why we've gone up here! We do however have a lowest scorer and we also have a zero, which means we say goodbye to @PikyoK and @Victorian. It also means we are in Round 3, and here are THE RULES:

This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Thursday January 18.

Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner.

In this and following rounds, the logo with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated at the close of the poll. All logos that get 0 votes will be eliminated, even if there are multiple.

If this doesn't produce a majority, we will have another, final, voting round in the other non-Dublin province. Until then, Good Luck! :)

Alexa, play me the anthem of Irish rugby:

    ...the real one ...

At Rols' specific request - it is one of the great Irish songs. We've moved our crawl to a rugby pub in rugby country, where Munster red is everywhere you look - welcome to Limerick!

    1920px-O'Connells_Traditional_Bar,_Limer

The best pint of Guinness in the whole city eh...this should be a good time. Anyway, down in Dingle, here's how the shortlist round went:

    A: 4. B: 1. C:0. D: 3. E: 3. F: 3. G: 2.

That is what I call close. The bottom two will go, because we're heading to exhaustive voting now, so we say goodbye to @Bear...and @Sir Rols - who has somehow managed to go from hero to literally zero. Anyway, as I say, we're going to exhaustive voting, so read carefully - THE RULES!

This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Tuesday January 16.

Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner.

In this and following rounds, the logo with the lowest number of votes will be eliminated at the close of the poll. All logos that get 0 votes will be eliminated, even if there are multiple.

Vote in the poll for your favourite logo. You have ONE vote, so make it count.

Be fair and sportsmanlike, this is meant to be fun and the entrants all deserve RESPECT.

If we don't get a majority here, we'll head to the second city on Tuesday for another round of drinks votes! Until then, good luck! :)

Alexa, play me Ireland's greatest Eurovision moment:

That's the only Eurovision reference there'll be - one of the great quirks of Eurovision history is that Ireland have won it seven times, but their most famous Eurovision act never even took part at all...anyway it's time to answer Ireland's Call - welcome to Dingle, County Kerry!

    1280px-Dingle_Strand_Street.jpg

We are having a good old-fashioned Irish pub crawl for the voting in this comp, and I'm sure John Benny is glad to see us here close to what some define as Europe's westernmost point. Even if the number of Riverdancers is making things a little bit...cosy. Anyway, we have a logo to find! We have a shortlist round, so do read carefully, it's THE RULES:

This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Sunday January 14.

Voting will now be conducted in rounds until one entry has an absolute majority and is declared the winner.

IMPORTANT - As I say, this is a cut round - so the (around) THREE logos that receive the fewest votes will be eliminated. The four remaining will go to the exhaustive ballot. All logos that get 0 votes will be eliminated, even if there are more than three. What exactly happens will depend on the exact numbers that we get, it might not be exactly three that go out.

Vote in the poll for your favourite logos. You will notice this is a multiple-choice poll - you may give up to THREE votes, so make them count.

More than THREE votes will invalidate all your votes. Sir Rols and I will monitor votes cast, but feel free to alert us if you notice anyone voting more than thrice.

Your vote is public and can be seen by all.

Entrants MAY NOT vote for their own logo. For transparency, I will not vote unless required to break a tie.

Votes are valid if cast by members of GamesBids as of January 1 2023 with a bona fide posting record.

We will continue our crawl & return to exhaustive balloting on Sunday, unless you give us a winner here. In the meantime, Good luck! :)

  5. I still love the idea, just as much as I did when they first proposed it. As I said at the time, it's Paris - why wouldn't you show it off like this? I get the concerns but nobody will be as vigilant about attacks as the French. They've suffered so much from terrorism that if they didn't think they could protect it, they just wouldn't do it. The only thing I'd say is that I do think the Champs Elysées/Concorde could've been a better setting, but I get that they want to show the river and Notre Dame. Every so often a host city that gives things a shake is no bad thing, even if not everything sticks.

  6. No AustralianFan, get off the stage. This is my job, not yours. Security! We need this stage for the President…now, where was I? Ah yes, our intro. As we are here, just minutes from the bobsleigh capital of the Mediterranean...

...Alexa, play me a song about Monaco's most famous Monacoan! (?)

He might be from the wrong side of La Manche, and not all that big there now, but Mika is a huge name in both France (proof - he was booked to open last year's Rugby World Cup final) & Italy (proof - he was booked to host Eurovision 2022 in Turin) - making him the ideal link between the country we're in & both the ones we're next to. He's also quite the showman, so if something like an Olympic closing ceremony was due to happen in France anytime soon, I'd expect him to be there to help the party.

Anyway, we have seen all of France's Winter Olympic story in this huge year, and now it's time to look ahead. It's time to focus on the host city for the fourth French Winter games in 2030 - the only city that we are certain will be one - Madames et Monseiurs, Bienvenue a NICE!

    1920px-Promenade_des_Anglais_Nice_IMG_12

Not very wintry, but it is very beautiful. We are of course here to announce our logo comp winner, giving Nice/Alpes 2030 their first proper logo, before they even came up with their own! Aren't we nice. To announce the winner, please welcome the owner of Olympism's longest finger, and most useful Google Translate account, the President of the French Republic, Mr Emmanuel Macron!

    800px-Macron_Michel_2023_(cropped).jpg

Macron: Je déclare ouverts les Jeux de Paris...

Y: Um Mr President...it's not July yet...

    M: célébrant la trente-...

    Y: Mr Macron...

    M: troisième Olympiade...

Y: MANU! YOU'RE GIVING THE WRONG SPEECH!

M: Quoi?! Merde. Attendez. Ah oui.

Le gagnant du concours du logo olympique est...

    Plus vite...

    Plus haut...

    Plus fort...

    SIR ROLS!

    53450348515_4c187413d1_b.jpg

Yoshi: Merci Mr President. We look forward to July 26 almost as much as you.

It went the distance and then some, the final result being A: 7. B: 5.  12 voters too, sorry krow. Krow? Krow! Stop throwing profiteroles at AustralianFan, you!

It was close but decisive - and it means @Sir Rols has only gone and done it again! I confess, I thought it was more of a railway poster than Olympic logo, but the people have spoken & put the wombat on the roll of honour once more - and a very worthy winner it is too. Congrats Rols, & while I'm here, thank you for the grids/general help as always. Congrats to @corn_zxl too for a great debut achievement, & thank to everyone for voting/interest :)

I'll give a day for last minute submission for Dublin, and we will begin the voting in Ireland on Friday. Until then, as this has been Rols' day, you can blame him for this closing song - it was not my idea  Au revoir!

  7. Right, I appreciate this will come across as a little bit chaotic, but at the request of both the competitors in this final round, being from Australia and the Philippines respectively, I am extending the voting time for the full 24 hours after the original deadline, so they can both see the announcement ceremony. As such the new deadline is 10PM UK time tomorrow, Wednesday January 10. The announcement will follow. Thank you again for your patience :)

  8. Right just so everyone knows, neither of the two contenders has a problem with an extension due to the outage yesterday - apparently it was down for 10 hours so I'll add that on, plus a little bit to account for me not being able to be around for most of the morning. So the new deadline for votes is 12PM UK time, Wednesday January 10. So there's just a little under 24 hours to go now. Thank you for your patience :)

Alexa, play me something connected to Paris 2024!

I say connected to Paris 2024, my French is not too great, especially when it comes to understanding a native speaker at full pelt - but I saw this during the New Year show, which they extremely nicely let foreigners watch (Merci!) and I think they said this was the official song of the Torch Relay for Paris. Any French members might be able to confirm/put me right. Anyway, welcome to Albertville!

    1280px-Albertville_depuis_le_belv%C3%A9d

This is very much connected to the Olympics - Winter host city in 1992, it is (until May) the last place to see a French Olympic flame on French soil. For a bit longer, until 2030, it'll remain the last French city to host a Winter Olympics. Talking about 2030, let's see how the logo comp is going - the results from Grenoble are:

    A: 7. B: 1. C: 5. D:1.

Just like in Chamonix, we couldn't find a majority - although we came as close as it's possible to get - but we have two clear leaders, so we will say goodbye to @Scotguy II & @Victorian and move the final two to the final round. And for that final round, here are THE RULES:

This voting round will be open for (approximately) 48 hours - it will close at 10pm UK time, Tuesday January 9.

Whatever happens, our next gathering on Tuesday will be the announcement in Nice itself, where the President awaits us. In the meantime, bonne chance! :)
