  1. blah, blah, blah yes, we know, the US has never lost a bid can't wait for the 2028 bid cycle!
  2. Umm...nope. We'll be bidding well into the 2030's before Quebec becomes an option again...the COC would never allow it before Toronto.
  3. Oh, I think it's already begun in another thread
  4. 2026 is Henderson's stupidity, the man can't be taken seriously. 2026 World Cup is another thing altogether, but for the purposes of this discussion the focus should now be on 2028.
  5. Finally! Some long-term strategic %&$i$#* thinking and planning!
  6. Weren't you the guy who kept telling me that Paris was the overwhelming favourite for 2024? If so, a natural choice now that Toronto isn't even bidding.
  7. Toronto NOT bidding for 2024: http://www.thestar.com/news/city_hall/2015/09/14/torontos-olympic-bid-decision-waits-until-the-last-minute.html Guess we'll come back here in the run up to 2028! Allez Paris 2024!
  8. To be fair Dave, you did say that there would be an announcement today and it would relate to the bid. The fact that the Premier is involved and it's still not a 'no' is still progress. Good to see they're actively working to get the business case developed.
  9. Yeah, it's either Toronto or bust from now on. No other never-hosted city in Canada is important enough to undermine Toronto's future chances at securing a Games. If they try to pull another Vancouver the COC will get skinned alive.
  10. I haven't heard of anyone over here who is remotely familiar with the bid process that believes LA has a better chance than Toronto. My understanding is Paris is the major challenge to winning a 2024 bid. 2028 seems more winnable if South Africa is out of the picture. Regardless, I still think we should bid for both.
  11. They may just prepare a bid for 2024 to get the kinks of the plan ironed out and to get IOC feedback, then go all out for a full-on 2028 bid now that South Africa is backing out of that race.
  12. There were tons of benefits from the bid before the Pan Am Games even started. MisterSG1 is just a troll with his own agenda or mental illness (pick your poison). The fact he doesn't know the entire bid cost will be covered by private sponsors shows how out to lunch he is, it's not even worth rebuddling all his stupid statements point by point, waste of energy.
  13. *facepalm* I'm losing faith in internet people.... Please shoot me...now.
  14. That protest website has hardly any traffic. I used web analytic tools to figure it out, it's clear the people running it are amateurs, probably managed by someone who posts on this website (david hind-smith, the tech guy who runs it is probably MisterSG1, the resident anti-Toronto olympic troll) as I haven't even heard about these guys in the local media. lol
  15. I personally don't think LA would be much competition, Paris meanwhile is. Unless Paris has an epic meltdown, neither LA or Toronto will get it, but if it becomes a North American race, Toronto will come out on top. LA will probably go on the first round.
  16. LRT corridors already reserved in Portlands though funding isn't approved for all the EA's and construction yet as there are other higher priority projects. An Olympic deadline would bump this up, way up on the priority list. I'm just glad people have had the foresight to keep the corridors open and the land reserved for a future Olympics/Expo.
  17. The fact you think that Toronto Star comments are indicative of the opinions of Torontonians indicates once again that you have no clue. Most of those comments are from those aged 60+ living in other parts of the province and the outer, outer suburbs. There are numerous reasons why people there would not want anything to be invested in Toronto, we won't go over the reasons yet again, it's pretty obvious as this dynamic exists with most major cities and their hinterlands filled with bitter redneck geriatrics.
  18. The expos are a consolation prize, the SOG are a game changer, everyone knows that. I couldnt name more than one expo host outside my own country without looking it up. I can think of every SOG host over the past 20+ years and images from those events, images burned into my memory as a child growing up.
  19. oh, the flag will still wave I just realize we're a clear underdog with very little hope...still fun to compete!!
