  1. Mercifully, CBC's commercials have been both brief and rare. Love the Peter the Great segment.
  2. I would be shocked if the end of the Closing Ceremony didn't involve some form of "We Are the Champions."
  3. So I just watched the replay of the Sochi handover segment. That part had the effect of a cold bucket of water. I felt like I was watching the anthem scene from "The Hunt for Red October." Did they REALLY need to sing three verses of the Soviet national anthem? I'm not old enough to remember the Soviet Union as the big bad Reds, but that anthem spooked me to the bone. (Yes, I am aware that the song was rewritten for the Russian Federation but for those of us who don't know a lick of Russian, it sounds and feels exactly like the start of the fight in Rocky IV.)
  4. I bet if mr. x goes downtown today or tomorrow, he can get some stuff at The Bay for REALLY cheap. If it didn't have A) CANADA written on it or the Games logo on it, it was NOT moving. At least that was my view on it from two weeks ago.
  5. MODS: Feel free to move this to whatever forum this seems appropriate. I don't have posting privileges in the Live Blog forum. Also, an apology that this took two weeks to write. Once I got back here to Minnesota, I have been so busy the last ten days that I couldn't do it before now. I’m wearing a Minnesota State Fair sweatshirt to g
  6. Yes, I was there on Feb 16. It seems like an eternity ago, but I'll post my trip recap here a little later tonight. Vancouver was freakin' AMAZING.
  7. Wow. Just wow. Considering what's happened to her the last couple of days, to put down a skate like that is amazing.
  8. They certainly did. http://www2.tbo.com/content/2010/feb/19/na-winter-olympics-ratings-end-idol-streak/ It's the first time since 2004 that anything beat "American Idol" head to head.
  9. I agree with those that thought that the Ceremony was fantastic. The big difference with the Sydney cauldron flub and this one is that given what happened (the cauldron finally got going at the change of music), it was harder to tell that there had been an issue. After a couple of minutes last night, it became painfully obvious that there was a big problem, and it wasn't getting fixed. While watching the proceedings last night, my mom kept harping on "I bet that no one in that stadium can hear or see anything." I know acoustics in the Metrodome (BC Place's ugly red-headed cousin) are beyo
  10. For those of us who have never been to an Olympic pin-trading facility, is it acceptable to bring non-Olympic pins into the place so one can start trading?
