  1. references can be about the city or/and the country. it's not a either/or situation. you can reference the girl from ipanema. my interpretation of of is that brazil is trying to get out of the slums. it's aspiration. destroying the worst of Brazil's past trying to grow a new future another concept i would like them to do is a calling of the nations to latin america. using drummers from past olympic OC (london, beijing, athens, atlanta etc), a single drummer in the stadium would make a call and the past dummer would respond in the order of thier prospective years but athens will be called first answer as it was the first Olympics host.
  2. i do hope it is not too linear. i mean going from the past to the arrival of the european to modern times. i do think london's OC, to be specific green and pleasant land and pandemonium, was a game changer. what i envisioned is a pavella in the field of play early on and the people doing various sports. and then 'destroying' that pavella to 'grow' the amazon rain forest'.
  3. i think it's more politics than anything. most of the approve memorial section have no official detractors. the terrorist and the Nazi can't complain to the IOC that it puts them in a bad light. with the Munich tragedy though it more complicated. israel is still not recognized by most Arabian countries and current occupation of Palestine as hot as today, the IOC would rather ban the commemoration than face the mass exodus of arabian countries.
  4. and we remember that interview that cut a memorial to the 7/7 bombing and inappropriate commentary disaster that was a prime time-telecast. #NBCfail
  5. i think were watching different ceremonies. let's be honest, transition are hard in opening ceremonies. there's always the bit after big reveal. they would always have that weird encore/packing up the staging phase. with London, it provided the audience, in the stadium and the TV viewers, something to look when they were clearing up. i should point out the 'happy and glorious' and the' chariots of fire' segments were transition to clear the pandemonium and NHS sequence.
  6. ^so basically, a girl in a bikini and a guy in a speedo.
  7. it's quite an antithesis of the previous Olympics mascot. Wendlock and mandeville had there charm but it was more about industry, technology and steel. while Brazil is more about nature and sustainability. i do love that they didn't go for the obvious find and cute animal in stick a make in it approach but i would have like a more human mascot. it does have tone of pokemon and adventure time but it's more of plus than a disadvantage. the costumes needs some working. it doesn't fully represent the animated versions of the two. it needs to be abit more slender and the height need to be fixed. (para one is smaller than the oly)
  8. i do think we should go more of the humanoid route than animistic. like a carnival queen for the olys and king for the para
  9. love the medallion. it the same concept as london's but you get a great souvenir after the event. as some nigh sayers on the london OC tread, i think the audience lights will be a fixture in future opening ceremonies
  10. i think i made a topic specially for these kinds of things
  11. i agree with some of it. i do love the ceremonies have nature a bit specifically costume wise. performers are wear actual (able to move without restrictions) costumes. not just huge cardboard blob of something (atlanta)
  12. TBH, i was expecting this to happen. like the london OC tread we always get derailed in the topic. anyways, any news on the closing?
  13. Ah why are we taking about London oc again? Baron, you do know why London choose to have the nhs sequence because unlike some country, the national of Britain chooses to make healthcare a right rather then being bankrupt for a knee surgery or having faux healthcare covarage with a crap load of insidentals. Also, without commentary anything can be misinterpreted. The troika look like horses running away from a bagel. Or the representation of st Bastille might look like a range of novelty condoms.
  14. second viewing reactions good bits: i retract my statement and say both parts of war and peace were good worst bit: i demote my statement of the camera angles from atrocious to ok. these a some shots i want to go longer and some that i want to cut. i wish they do a directors cut opening ceremony vid like london did. (they might do it with that fifth ring and all) drama bach's speech was censored by NBC. productions stand point. the head pros from the soviet bit are a bit squashed. is it an engineering constraint? does anyone know how supplied the audience lights? the lines of volunteers should have extended unto the car park.
  15. i think the problem with NBC coverage of the ceremonies is not the cut. i get that they need the commercial for money so it's OK. the problem is the commentators. they are the dumbest, uneducated, insensitive combination of morning show host and puff piece journalist. WHERE IS THAT GOOD COMMENTARY TEAM IN ATHENS? I WOULD SELL MY KINGDOM )and soul) TO HAVE THEM BACK FOR RIO
  16. LOVE THAT IT'S THERE!!.FTW!!! i'm fine with the cut they made. especially the mascot (haunting my dreams still)
  17. i think i got hacked

  18. it's basiclly gay people who can't go to gaybars.
  19. i could not disagree more. like you comment about London, i thought it was all over the place. cut scene were erratic, there were some shot that i thought were superfluous. and some shot i wanted more. i do like some interesting shot. like the POV for the car and the russian athletes entering the staduim BDY, this are just initial reactions so i might chance my mind on some aspects of it
  20. initial reaction best bits: the revolution(ussr) starting part of war and peace the carnival and the onion domes(i wanted more of that like the NHS bit in london) the russian flag raising and the parade of nations sad bits: the olympic rings. they did show a successful version after the lighting of the cauldron. worst bits: the mascots are too life like it's scary. the jellyfish doves of peace the ship bit ( i think it was entirely a non-starer) the second half of war and peace (i might need more explanation) the fireworks (we get it you have money to spend) the cauldron ( love that they went pass all the ceremonies cast but the lighting was a bit dogey. also the not seeing from the stadium might be and irate for the IOC. of course all rules were in limbo since london) DRAMA: bach ( he went all bitchy and told the heads of states that you literally spitting on the athlete's face for not coming to sochi. DRAMA!!!!) production stand point: the props and the rail system the made was beautiful. i don't see it as olympic standard but it's beautiful. i like the use of the floor projectors and films. some elements of London were there. the forming of the rings, the audience lights (the used medals instead of putting wires in but still the same concept. Disney California adventure has those for there world of color fountain show.) the pillars from war and peace (some will say it's from Beijing but i think it's from London) the little girl plot device has been done before but ok. the girl was no Nikki Webster. the constellation part was a bit jarring. it might not be by the second watching. pacing was good the camera angles were atrocious (love or hate London, they had good angels to work with.) these are initial reactions so i might mellow me reaction by the second viewing
