  1. Lessons learned: The flame does not need to rise ON the cauldron through the wires. It may travel after the cauldron has risen(?) in the form of fireworks, laser or any other chemical reaction that can be called fire. Last October's Panamerican Games', 2nd in size only to the Olympics, OC had the Omnilife Stadium fully criss crossed with wires and cables (watch the full OC) and they still managed to light the cauldron on top of the volcano-shaped stadium's roof: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/B88jlOE6Uhk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  2. About the lighter of the cauldron... whoever gets to be so... I've heard of Muhammad Ali's visit to London this week, can anyone comfirm? Do we know the whereabouts of Li Ning, Nikolaos K., Cathy Freeman, Antonio Rebollo??? Do you think they got invited? Any chance they get a role in the ceremony?
  3. Here are pictures of Mexico City's cauldron still in its original location on top of a Diego Rivera mural in the volcanic rock stadium in the now protected University City as a UNESCO World Heritage Site: http://www.lospumasunam.com.mx/wiki/Estadio_OlĂmpico_Universitario
  4. For all of you doubting and making fun of what I wrote here before, here is the article in one of the world's oldest and most respected sport newspapers. Hope you all can read Spanish or at least Google it. http://www.oem.com.mx/esto/notas/n2578635.htm Alberto Lati has been televisadeportes.com specialized envoy for the Olympics and World Cups. He has been in London for over a year and has one of the best dream jobs in the world. He is also dying to discover all the inner works of the ceremony and has talked to many more people from IOC and LOCOG than we can ever dream of. You can keep track of his discoveries at twitter.com/albertolati or watch him on TDN or Canal de las Estrellas networks, available worldwide. Hope I can bring another one here soon. PS He clearly states that Heatherwick himself told him that it was the lighting method that required an auth from the PM, whom, by the way, at that time, was visiting Mexico. Orbit fans, read the article carefully.
  5. Hi everyone! I don't know if this might be of interest to you, but from a Mexican TV interview with Thomas Heatherwick by Alberto Lati, @albertolati on Twitter, we learned that: 1) Heatherwick doesn't keep ANY of the cauldron's blueprints at his office. 2) The cauldron is being built in a secret place in the north of England (Clearly England, not UK). 3) They have already asked and have been granted permission from the Prime Minister for the lighting. So, if he was telling the truth, the cauldron is still definitively off-site and the lighting is going to be SO spectacular that it has required an extra authorization from the head of government!
