  1. I am curious...am I the only one that is really let down by the cauldron placement? I really like everything else about it, it just really upset me that no one can see the cauldron right now. And in regards to Lord Coe's comments, the cauldron is not a "tourist" destination, it should be a world heritage destination. I am part of one of those 204 nations, I financially and emotionally support my nation's athletes. T he Olympics belong to the athletes as much as the spectators. Let's hope Rio finds the balance London could not and chose not to do. And that balance is austere yet impressive and most of all accessible to all. Elite athletes compete but the games don't have to be so elitist. What a way to inspire a generation by segregating. LOCOG and Lord Coe failed us on this. Great design and imagination, lack of respect of the movement and the spectators that fuel it.
  2. Okay, first thing, the nations received a replica of one in the Cauldron I am assuming. I INTENTIONALLY AM USING ALL CAPS BECAUSE I AM STEAMING PISSED. THE CAULDRON AWESOME, GREAT JOB, THE LIGHTING EMOTIONAL AND AWESOME AS WELL AS INSPIRING. BUT ITS CLOSED OFF FROM THE PUBLIC. SPEAKING AS A PERSON THAT HAS SEEN TWO CAULDRONS IN PERSON IT IS A SIGHT TO BEHOLD, EVEN THE UGLY McDONALDS FRENCH FRY BOX FROM ATLANTA 1996. BUT SERIOUSLY INSPIRE A GENERATION, AS LONG AS YOU BUY A TICKET. WTF?1?! ALL PEOPLE DESERVE TO SEE THE CAULDRON, FOR FREE, NOT THE COST OF AN ATHLETIC EVENT OR A JOURNEY TO THE TOP OF A TOWER. I HAVE LOVED ALL THAT LONDON HAS DONE UNTIL NOW. I AM LET DOWN BY ITS LOCATION AS OF NOW, IF IT STAYS ONLY SEEN FROM WITHIN THE STADIUM, ON A PLATFORM OR NOT, IF IT CANNOT BE SEEN BY ALL ITS A FAILURE! I AM SO SORRY THAT THOMAS HEATHERWICK'S GREAT DESIGN CAN ONLY BE SEEN BY THE WORLD'S LUCKIEST AND RICHEST PEOPLE. TO THAT I SAY LOCOG YOU FAILED US ALL!!! LETS HOPE DAWN BRINGS A VIEW OF THE CAULDRON FOR ALL, OR THIS CAULDRON IS A FAILURE BECAUSE OF ELITIST BULLS@#T!
  3. I am American, how many feet is in 3 meters, lol And I love that you have done this experiment at home.
  4. Okay, so here is the deal. We all have clues, but nothing concrete. Mad props LOCOG!!! But my theory at this late time is Heatherwick designed a great cauldron that will emerge from the center of the stadium and rise to be a suspended cauldron in the center of the stadium. The problem is that we all refuse to believe anything. We need concrete belief. What made Sydney spectacular is that firr came from water and a cauldron emerged that no one had ever seen. Imagine, just imagine, LOCOG has mad the "impossible" possible. Maybe just maybe Thomas Heather wick gave us art and LOCOG gave us innovation. I have been under a Cauldron before at the USOC Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs and it's awesome to see the underside of the flame. Maybe...just maybe we will see the first cauldron that is above all in the stadium during the games, because we all fuel the Olympic Flame. Athens gave us the flame in the closing ceremony, Maybe London will have us "fuel" it. LOCOG and Seb Coe have redefined how the Olympic movement will move into the modern generation. So it's roughly sunrise in London as I type this and first of all, to all of you that "saved the surprise" you have truly been a "brit" keeping calm and carrying on. I hate and love you all (y'all as we say in America) for keeping the secret. Barcelona created awe, Sydney amazement, London I have high hopes for you. So I log out because NBC sucks and I cannot see it live and I hope that when I come back, I figured it out. If not, I look forward to speculating with you about Sochi. Thats why they call it the Olympic Movement, it keeps moving. Citius-Altius-Fortius
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6YwHqjfK5I&list=FL2afLqeXrU2sCuIhbY1sH-w&index=3&feature=plpp_video What is this round platform thing visible at the 1mins 30sec mark?
  6. I so strongly want to throw in the towel and just wait it out, but alas...I CANNOT!!! I am trying, but Friday cannot come soon enough, and because I am in America and NBC is not showing the ceremony live, everyone else in the world will know before me. I am literally disconnecting myself from the grid during the ceremonies so I can enjoy them as they should be. Alright, I get it...save the surprise. So here are my theories in no particular order. I just gotta get em out into the world. I'll wait until the big moment to find out. That damn orbit, despite it all, it could be the placeholder and I know that its far off and I hope it does not. Let's hope it's closed because they are rigging it with fireworks, lasers and other ceremony related stuff. The cauldron will rise from somewhere in the stadium and be lifted after lighting into place somew here on a support near the rim of the stadium. The cauldron has been installed as a hydraulic lifting tower and is under one of those white domes around the stadium that all but one are decoys meant to appear early in the construction to hide the cauldron. I swear if the cauldron appears via a laser ignition on the shard after a smaller stadium cauldron is lit, I am gunna be very unhappy. Either way, I have a huge respect for LOCOG an all of people there in London that are keeping this a secret. I love and hate you all for saving the surprise. I hope you inspire a generation and give me cold chills in this the start of a history making games!!!
  7. I absolutely agree, this has been my thought as of recent. I'm not trying to kill the surprise but enhance it. I am excited for Friday but I am very curious about this cauldron. I need them to bring the glamour that Atlanta didn't in design, and that China lacked in emotion.
  8. Does anyone else have a comment on this? This looks interesting to me...
  9. Everyone, I agree, LOCOG has got us all, not because they are smarter, but because they are bigger Olympic dorks than us. 7 years ago they gave extremely valuable seats to schoolchildren, they have defined whatever norms before them, From logo to stadium design these will be unique games, London has raised the bar above Beijing, not by sheer number but by uniqueness, i will everyday read and view trying to predict what has been set. I have and have and great hopes for London 2012. Here we go all!!!! Keep guessing, keep predicting and for all of our sake, give us a clue London.......
  10. All signs point to this area. The lighting on the stadium, the TOR is just on the other side, the "blueprints". I would agree with all of these, but the only issue is that it is in the main flow of pedestrian traffic. If you view every entrance/exit ramp the pathways are clear. Tens of thousands of people need to enter and exit through these areas. London has been very wise about human flow patterns, the cauldron and tower would only block and markedly decrease the flow through the area. I do however feel that this is the side of the stadium where the cauldron would exist. This is my theory because the large screens mounted on the other side of the stadium would allow those sitting on the north side to view the "moment".
  11. Curious, what is on the barge in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Anyone know? It looks like several pieces that could join together like the ticket designs. Thoughts?
  12. I know he design the rings. I could see two artists working together to create modern harmonious pieces What about theory number two. Several small cauldrons uniting as one. Like the ticket graphics. The muli-colored walkway is close off from pedestrian traffic right? It's near the suspicious area we have been talking about, its accessible to everyone and if they rise tall enough seen by everyone. It would look like the tree-structure at the entrance of the Stratford Station Thoughts? By the way, I take all opinions only because I want to see which one of us can figure it out while enjoying the big show on the 27th. As far a spoilers and leaks, I am a continent away and cannot wait for these games, for the ceremonies and seeing where the daring LOCOG team will "Inspire a Generation". And whats with the wooden tower that was recently built near Straford for Ikea?
  13. I know I said they were theories. But it's a last minute thought I wanted to share. Look at the most recent aerial photos, the five rings seem to be the same size of the inner ring of the Orbit. And the top of the observation area is far enough from the red structure to support a flame. If you visit The United States Olympic Committee Headquarters in Colorado Springs you can view the underside of the flame from a skylight.
  14. First of all, its an honor to join the discussion I have been reading for months. I have two theories as to where the cauldron could be. #1 The Orbit. Reference the last picture of the top of the observation deck. Is the circle the same size as the fiver rings location around the stadium. See the most recent photos for these. Is it possible they form the Olympic Rings, burst into flames and stack to reveal a cauldron on top of the tower. #2 its on the promenade are near the old little bridge where there are the multi-colored surfaces and several little structures rise to make on big cauldron that is hidden under ground only to rise up and amaze us. If the first is true, then Thomas Heatherwick could have designed a structure that rises from the square within the flames to rest atop the observation deck. Why would London 2012 build such a structure and only have it be an observation deck. LEGACY is a major part of these games since the bid. Why visit a, what some have called "ugly" tower in 20 or 30 years? Because it was the Olympic Cauldron it was the Olympic Cauldron is one good reason.
