National Stadium(1964 Olympic Stadium)
runningrings replied to yukke14's topic in Tokyo 2020 Summer Games
I just feel that this design has dated before its even been built. London's Aquatic Centre has been there done that- now the Japanese will bring their own overwrought version of this 12 years later? Unoriginal. Boring. Wish they were going for something more simple, light and traditionally Japanese. -
lolwut?!

Because you weren't specific about if you were referring to Perth Australia or Perth Scotland. When you say Perth Australia do you mean Perth Tasmania or Perth Western Australia- you really need to be more specific to avoid such confusions in future.

Perth Scotland or Perth Australia? I'm so confused.

I agree- don't see why they couldn't have done an Athens and put a roof over it and modernised. Quite sad. -
Colours look alright, if not a tiny bit boring.

Good thing you clarified, I was about to say that there was no 1992 Winter Olympics and Paralympics Games in Albertville Minnesota United States of America North America.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370

Its a pretty unique and unprecedented circumstance - so I'm sure many nations would have "botched from the world go" also. A country like New Zealand wouldn't have fared so well if an Air NZ aircraft vanished in similar circumstances. -

If you are referring to Sydney's LOGO (which is what I assume you are getting at?) - sure, it is right to say that it was certainly similar to Barcelona, but the fact that Sydney's logo was loaded with its own meaning means I'd probably not go as far as claiming outright plagiarism - let alone calling it 'boring' (really?). If you were actually saying that Sydney's look plagiarised Barcelona -- I just cant see it. Sydney's 'fluid energy', while personally not my favourite look, was iconically fresh, exciting and Australian and looked nothing like Barcelona's Gaudi tile inspired theme... if anything Beijing seemed to draw on Sydney's "fluid energy".- 89 replies

I think it's more about sunlight - dusk in Glasgow is around 10pm in July. If St. Petersburg ever hosts the SOG it will be a similar issue. Unless the Ceremony starts at 11pm - it will be twilight ad it's darkest .

Look - I intensely dislike Abbott as much as any other level-headed, self-respecting Australian does, but I'm not sure you expect him to do? It is not hard to see that he and the government (and other relevant govts in this situation - China, Malaysia, et al.) are working with very limited information in an unprecedented situation. If he communicated less he would be accused of secrecy or not caring. I think this is more a case of this just being a very frustrating difficult incident to try and resolve - we live in an age where we expect answers instantly - and MH370 is nearly enigma status which is oddly grating on people's nerves. -

Well, there will only be one first time South American Olympics - and wont be another SOG there for at lest twenty years--- it it is a big milestone. Anyway who cares what BA does in 2018.

PyeongChang 2018 Venues

Yep - there is that too. It is likely just a concept hence the similarity to LA. Sydney Olympic Stadium went through many design phases - initially it looked remarkably similar to the modernist bowls of Tokyo and Mexico City. -
Call me overboard - but I'd love to see a big relay for 2016. Athens > Lisbon > Mexico City (site of last Latin American Olympics) and from Mexico it ventures south into South America. A day in each country is really all that needs to be done.

I would have no sympathy for Paris if they pass up this opportunity. They seem to have a knack for not choosing their fights wisely - like bidding for 2008 - and not for 2020 (and to a lesser extent, 2000) where they stood a better chance. I'm of the opinion that if they had bid, Paris could have easily trumped Sydney and Tokyo for 2000 and 2020 respectively.

My thoughts too --- I'm really hoping Paris delivers on this.

For as long as it takes, at least as far as Australia is concerned. For Abbott - this is more than just finding the wreckage of an airliner and more about earning extremely valuable brownie-points with his SE Asian counterparts. -

I feel like I've read that story every day this week now: "aircraft have spotted debris, theyre on their way!" -
Great village - but the design looks a little bit gauche, especially that fountain... what is that? Some beefed up version of Cathy's cauldron?
