Looking forward to watching some great hockey battles at this new venue in 2032. This from Austadiums: Upgraded Hockey Venue “ new $31.5 million National Rugby Training Centre and integrated grandstand has transformed the iconic venue, with bigger plans to come.” “Another “win” is having the first new infrastructure in place for hockey in the blueprint for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.” “This new facility is slated for use at the 2032 Olympics but the benefits are here now,” (Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk). Switzerland 203x - adapting the 2030 proposal “Urs Lehmann, President of Swiss Ski, believes hosting the 2038 Games can support efforts to sustain winter sports and benefit Swiss sport overall. The extended timeline now allows more time to address key issues around legacy, sustainability, infrastructure and security.” “Thomas Rechberger, CEO of Switzerland 203x, acknowledged the need to adapt their initial 2030 proposals to better fit the reality of hosting in 2038. His team will work with stakeholders across Switzerland to develop concrete solutions on venues, transport, finances and community engagement.” Credit: The Will News.com

Milano Cortina 2026
AustralianFan replied to AustralianFan's topic in Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games
Yes its becoming a yo-yo re the 2026 sliding centre, outside of Italy (IOC)? or another look at reviving the 2006 venue? Italian decision nears as Milano-Cortina 2026 eyes sliding venue abroad 30/11/23 “Olympic Games Executive Director Christophe Dubi said Thursday that a government decision will be made next week regarding Cesana, which held bobsled, luge and skeleton at the 2006 Games.” “Dubi did not elaborate on what is specifically being considered regarding Cesana or if a decision to restore the track could lead to it becoming an option to hold sliding sports in 2026.” “After a meeting last month, the IOC and Milano-Cortina officials said the plan was to hold sliding sports in another country because there are no elite-level sliding tracks in use in Italy. A previous plan to rebuild a sliding track in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the 1956 Winter Olympics host, was scrapped.” “It would mark the first time in Winter Games history that medal events are held in two different countries. It has happened at the Summer Games with equestrian due to quarantine restrictions.” “Milano-Cortina organizers declined comment on whether Cesana could become an option and said that they are “working to find the best solution for the sliding center.” “The estimated cost of restoring the Cesana track is $36 million, according to Italian media.” “Cesana, near the Italy-France border, is 122 miles west of Milan and 280 miles west of Cortina as the crow flies.” Credit: NBC Sports.com -

The facility was redeveloped to host the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games events, and minor facility upgrades will further modernise the venue, ready to host Brisbane 2032 events. After the Games, the upgraded facility will be home to Queensland Target Sports, Pistol Shooting Queensland and Brisbane International Shooting Centre Limited. Relax with both the centre-left incumbent Labor government and conservative LNP opposition parties in Queensland supporting the Olympics/Paralympics, there is zero risk to the 2032 Games. (just some other keyboard warriors in this thread throwing mud and wild conspiracy theories from afar because of their personal disdain for Thomas Bach and John Coates).

(corrected): @StefanMUC what you have failed to realise is that there is a coming Queensland State Election and lots of huff and bluff happening from politicians which happens every election cycle. So please don’t be so gullible and hysterical. This huff and bluff is par for the course at Australian elections. The Brisbane Lord Mayor is from the opposition LNP parties and is angling for a role in State politics in the lead-up to the biggest party in town. He is pretty ineffective at the local government level, thus he resigned from the Olympics leadership group. The incumbent Queensland Government is from the Australian Labor Party. Classis opposition conservative parties versus an incumbent labor government, LNP versus Labor, a tradition originating from the UK. With the state opposition supporting the Brisbane 2032 Games along with the incumbent Labor Government, The left-leaning Greens Party have no chance of winning government, never have, never will. So, what you’re writing is absolute baseless garbage, stuff made of fantasies, no offence intended. With bi-partisan support from the incumbent govt and LNP opposition, there is no risk to the Brisbame Olympics/Paralympics. It’s laughable @StefanMUC how you have come to this bizarre, wishful-thinking conclusion. Allow me to reassure you, there’s is no risk to Brisbane 2032 with both the Queensland Labor government and main LNP opposition parties supporting the Games in 8.5 years time. Did you not know that? You’re trying so hard to throw mud and whip up a conspiracy theory about Brisbane 2032 because of your disdain for certain figures in the IOC, it’s laughable, it really is. Sorry if that jars your reality from 16,000 kms long way but that’s just how it is.

… and from the BNN Network: Financial Guarantees: The Crux of the Matter “Sweden has been eliminated from the final dialogue phase for hosting the Winter Olympics and Paralympics in 2030, in a decision that has left the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK), the Swedish Paralympic Committee (SPK), and the Swedish Sports Confederation (RF) disappointed.” “The bid, which was a collective effort by these organizations, began its feasibility study in February and was presented in mid-June. The vision was to host the most sustainable games in history.” “The Swedish representatives expressed their disappointment over the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) decision, emphasizing their commitment to a sustainable, cost-effective, and democratic approach to the games.” “The Swedish bid was clear about not relying on taxpayer money for financing. Despite their disappointment, SOK’s chairman Hans von Uthmann expressed that if the IOC did not share Sweden’s vision for future games, it was wise to be informed at this stage.” “The IOC indicated that Sweden’s bid lacked the necessary financial guarantees earlier in the process, which was a significant aspect of the third phase. The Swedish representatives expressed their surprise and dismay at the decision, reiterating their commitment to a sustainable, cost-effective, and democratic approach to the games.”

More reports on implications and re-positioning of bids in the wake of last week’s IOC EB Announcements. Sapporo Looking to be “Plan B” if Switzerland 2038 Fails “The Japanese, for their part, are already looking to the future without trying to hide their game. The IOC Executive Board’s decision to select the French Alps and Salt Lake City to continue the “targeted dialogue” for 2030 and 2034, with a double award announced at the Paris session next July, stifles Sapporo’s ambitions in the medium term.” “However, the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) could position itself as Plan B should Switzerland fail in its bid to win the 2038 event. Its Secretary General, Ogata Mitsugi, told the Japanese media on Thursday November 30 that the IOC Executive Board’s decision had not really been anticipated, especially for the Winter Games in 2038.” “The Japanese leader said it was impossible for Sapporo, in its current configuration, to continue discussions with the IOC for the 2038 Winter Games. But he assured that the JOC would support Sapporo’s efforts and approach, for 2038 or beyond, “in every way possible.“ Source: Francs Jeux.com

More reports coming our out now re the how and why Sweden has failed in it’s ninth Olympic campaign. Sweden 2030: “A Failure To Understand” “The performance is unprecedented in Olympic history. In a single day, Wednesday November 29, the IOC Executive Board named three winners. Three countries that can now prepare to host the Winter Games. France and the United States with a virtual certainty, for 2030 and 2034. Switzerland, with a dose of conditionality, for 2038.” “”Three winners in one go, with just one unfortunate loser, Sweden. A rejectionist in the race for the Winter Games, whose prospects of hosting the event have become so remote as to be invisible.” “Winter 2042, at best. In other words, an eternity.” “For Sweden, the blow is hard. And the pill all the more difficult to swallow given that this is not the country’s first attempt at hosting the Winter Games. Its bid for the 2030 edition was the ninth. Nine Olympic projects, not a single one accepted.” “This is becoming a habit, suggested Hans von Uthmann, President of the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK), the day after the IOC Executive Board’s announcement. What should we learn from this latest failure? I confess I don’t know, other than that the Swedish method doesn’t seem compatible with the IOC’s expectations.” “The Swedes make no secret of the fact: they don’t understand why the Executive Committee, on the recommendation of the Future Host Committee, has once again rejected their application. Hans von Uthmann insists that the Swedish project was without doubt, along with the Swiss one, the most sustainable of the lot, since it was built entirely on existing sites.” “As the SOK president told the Associated Press, the Swedish project did not include a single building. “Whereas the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Games have been awarded to someone (France) who plans to build two new ice rinks.” “Another misunderstanding: the question of guarantees. On Wednesday November 29, the IOC justified its decision not to select Sweden by citing a lack of financial guarantees from the authorities. But as Hans Von Uthmann points out, the Olympic body has never formally demanded that such guarantees be provided at this stage of the selection process.” “So why not? For the SOK president, the explanation could be cultural. Sweden has approached the race for the 2030 Winter Games as it has always done in the past, with a certain discretion and humility, without trying to get things moving. The Swedish way.” “Clearly, the method is not the right one. But the Swedes have no intention of changing it. “We always do it this way, Hans Von Uthmann told AP. We’re proud to do it this way. Of course, we have to listen and learn from others. But we won’t abandon our values.” “After nine failures, will the Swedes allow themselves to be tempted by a new project, for the Winter Games in 2042 or 2046? The answer will have to wait. They will first have to overcome their disappointment. But nothing can be ruled out.” Source: Francs Jeux.com: A Failure To Understand - 1 Dec 2023
