Just luv how you conveniently quoted my last post to suit your short-sighted & prejudicial vision of these Games.

That "one nut job" (which investigators blamed the wrong guy at first) still IMPACTED (as the word you used in one of your points against Rio) the Atlanta Games & it still happened at Centennial OLYMPIC Park. Even if it wasn't an "official venue", many people at the park were still there for the 1996 OLYMPICS.

As for the rest of your post, it's nothing but Ryan Lochte "over-exaggeration". Nothing but pure embellishment at its best. You should get a gold medal for that. :P

Considering that Atlanta couldn't do (in the best of times in a developed country) what Rio did do (in the worst of times in a developing country), is a great achievement in itself.

Say what negative malarky that you like, but Rio & Brazil (& the IOC for that matter) should be proud of what they have accomplished in such a trying & dire time in the history of Brazil, & all in the midst of chastising (& unwarranted in many cases) criticism from the a lot of the international media (& from people like you & Paul). So well done Rio 2016 & Brazil!!!

    totally agree with you !!!!!

Why should it be?  Atlanta only had 3 marks -- like the 2 bus drivers who walked away, the results system which broke down, and the over-commercialization atmospher which was OUTSIDE any of the official venues).

Where do I begin with Rio?

    - Village not ready when athletes were checking in

    - critical subway line NOT READY

    - cheap, unfinished venues (I could NOT believe how cheap and unfinished the flooring was in the upper reaches of the gymnastics stadium.  At that time in April, and the seats were already in place, it was ROUGH, unfinished concrete.  What about the other venues???)

    - the uncertain domestic political situation

    - messy attendance of Russian athletes (banned in Athletics; should the rest have been allowed to participate?)

    - Zika virus causing many athletes and visitors NOT to come

    - tacky little logo souvenir given the medallists.  So cheap.  Couldn't even afford flowers.

    - polluted waters

    - Athletes and media belongings robbed (even already in the Village)

    - low ticket sales and EMPTY seats...only to be filled with BOORISH, IGNORANT, DISRESPECTUL crowds...

    - Volunteers deserting; the remaining ones NOT being fed

    - "fake" cauldron of not even an ORIGINAL design

    - major diving pool water snafu

    - maybe tainted drug tests?

    - greatly diminished Paralympic schedule

    - what else DON'T we know about?

DO you want me to go on???

    And Atlanta had a bomb!!!

    Well some Atlanta issues:

     - Coca-Cola Games (Athens, sorry but see you in 2004)

     - Transport problems (also)

"No one wants another Atlanta. The 1996 Games provided a cautionary tale of Olympic travel woes — with bus drivers getting lost, athletes arriving moments before their events and overloaded trains that couldn’t get residents home. It prompted the International Olympic Committee to lay out demands to make sure it didn’t happen again.

“Atlanta was an unmitigated transport disaster,” rail expert Christian Wolmar said. “

     - Informatic problems

This is from wiki but it´s ok:

"A report prepared by European Olympic officials after the Games was critical of Atlanta's performance in several key issues, including the level of crowding in the Olympic Village, the quality of available food, the accessibility and convenience of transportation, and the Games' general atmosphere of commercialism.[17] At the closing ceremony, IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch said in his closing speech, "Well done, Atlanta" and simply called the Games "most exceptional." This broke precedent for Samaranch, who had traditionally labeled each Games "the best Olympics ever" at each closing ceremony, a practice he resumed at the subsequent Games in Sydney in 2000."

Don´t be mad, just open your eyes. Maybe Atlanta Games were not so cool as you believe.

  3. In general , the games were ok ! Before the games we saw a lot of news ( from  North american and European newspapers ) about water quality , safety , the inability of Brazil . Well, all with a lot of hype from reality . The opening ceremony was  pretty cool and about sports this  Games were spectacular . As less positive aspects : empty seats and Lochte novel. Well done Brazil . Vai Brasill!!!

In Portugal, we will never forget  the support from te brazilian crowd.

    OBRIGADO!!

I think the verdict will come when they submit their Official Report to the IOC.  Will it be factual?  Will it be on time?

My amateur assessment, having seen the host city on the ground, I think the city was too big for the Games and/or vice-versa (the Games were too big for such a vast city--if there is such a thing.)  All glitches (the "fake" cauldron) and hostile crowds notwithstanding, there simply weren't enough competent people to have run this thing smoothly.

Was watching the men's 10m platform diving yesterday -- and it kept bugging me why the semi-finals and finals were on the same day, and on the last full day of the Games?  Why did they wait until the last minute?  I don't remember that happening before.  Then it struck me, that yes, the green pool episode happened -- and it pushed the last 2 days of diving forward -- to the penultimate day of the Games.  That must've messed up Diving media and all the FINA and divers' families' schedules somewhat, resulting in a domino effect on everyone's closing plans...their hotels, their flight arrangements, etc.

These were just a badly planned Games.  God forbid the mess they will make of the Paralympics and the handicapped sector of our population.  a B- (the "Brasilian" way of doing things  ;) )  for the regular Games, so far. .

    better than Atlanta, undoubtedly ;)

  5. Meanwhile in Atlantic Ocean, a portuguese ship is going to Brazil....

It is now one month that the School Ship Sagres sailed from Lisbon. Sailed for twelve days straight until you reach the first port in Praia , Cape Verde .
On July 6 he left again towards Brazil crossing the equator on the 13th .
The ship arrived to the first Brazilian port in Recife on 19 July and at this point already follows journey to the next port in S. Salvador .
Continue to monitor the images from the trip NRP Sagres and leave a message to the ship: https://www.facebook.com/MarinhaPortuguesa/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1169280513093130

  6. In Portugal a video portal and exclusive multimedia content (only in PT) :

    Interesting:

"The Olympic Committee of Portugal (COP) launched today a video portal and exclusive multimedia content in partnership with Sapo. The new address of the COP was created thinking about the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, approaching with great strides, so you have new daily articles on the Portuguese athletes, their preparation and more personal testimonies.

The COP channel comes in anticipation of a similar international project. By the end of the year, the International Olympic Committee will launch the Olympic Channel, also an online platform for everyone. In the Portuguese case, the focus will be given to athletes who will represent Portugal in Brazil but also to all those who have represented the country in previous years. The COP channel, the frog, will also have information on the characteristics and rules of the different modalities.

The journalist Cecilia Carmo is responsible for coordinating the project that could form the basis for other journalistic work of the media partners of the COP (RTP and Sport TV)."

  10. Leandro e Leonardo? Hahahaha Leandro is dead. Xuxa? Is the cermony supposed to be a children show? Because she was a children singer.

    irony alert!! ...irony alert!!... B)

I respect that kind of "musicians", but not for a OC!! That´s my point of view...

    Oh dear...you don´t understand the irony .. <_<

  11. Yes, I agree in part .
The Brazil 2005-2012 really seemed to be the new world power . The economic boom was incredible .
The candidacy of Brazil charmed everyone . But the country was involved in economic and political crisis that has affected the Olympic Games.
The games will be good ? Yes! The opening will be good ? Yes . But I think Rio is the most wonderful place on earth I do not agree .
I put the Olympics in Rio at the same level of Athens. But without comparison in the organization with London or the grandeur of Beijing.
    -
His experience with Brazilian does not reflect the reality of the majority, but there are several Brazilians in this way ... they surfed the economic boom , now shipwrecked . The Brazilian is a good person and loves foreigners .
ALL ARE WELCOME IN AUGUST ! It will not be the best Olympics of all time , but it will be a good Olympics.

You said everything!!! I believe in a good games, but honestly, not like London or Sydney. Maybe better than Athens and more happy than Beijing.

  12. Parabéns! A Europa é de vocês. Os campeões falam português.

    Merci beaucoup! :D:D:D

    Obrigado!! :P

Recently, in an interview with UOL Esporte Anitta revealed he would like to sing at the opening. "It's a beautiful and worldwide recognition ceremony,"

What´s the point about Anita??! Well, why not Xuxa or Leandro e Leonardo???

Brazil have fantastic musicians. I Can´t understand Anita´s choice!!

"It´s beautiful and worldwide"....yes honey, for you!!

    Not for an olympic ceremony!!

  13. All the portuguese diaspora in my neighbourhood, no big surprise, celebrating like mad. I hope they have fun.
