Maybe it’s just an embarrassing reminder of my youth in the 70s snd 80s. Even I sported a ‘tash back in the day. But now it seems like spotting flared jeans. Anyway, while I’m here, how about you oglers in this thread go and give some votes down in the logo comp. We can do with some proper games-time voting numbers.

I think this is a better analysis/sum-up of the saga Heraskevych’s ‘helmet of memory’ forces IOC on to PR back foot at Winter Olympics

I took it as he’s mainly trying to put the finger on Oswald and the lack of transparency snd accountability on his role. I respect Jens, he’s one of the few much needed media observers prepared to rake through the IOC’s dirty laundry. But he does tend to let his polemics get in the way of objectiveness and clarity, and he likes making points from obscure paper trails. Personally, I think this was always going to be the inevitable flashpoint of the saga. If anything I think the IOC have tried to be as accomodating as they can, but neither can anybody fault Heraskevych for sticking to his guns.

Jens Weinreich over at The Inquisitor has posted his take The crocodile tears of the IOC president, a questionable and non-transparent process, and the usual propaganda For those who can’t get past the paywall, here’s the story

Ah Myles, trust you to pique my interest with West Side Story, only one of my favourite musicals of all time. And that’s both versions, I can’t split between them. The original was the classic, but Spielberg did it soooo well too. Loved ‘em. And speaking of Elvis, he was initially cast to play Tony in the original. But Colonel Tom Parker made him back out at the last moment for fear that playing a gang member would ruin his image.

l’Australia a Milano-Cortina

OMG, @Faster’s gonna be pissed in our private chat that Oz snatched that gold away from Canada What a surprise to wake up to. Didn’t see that one coming, he’d never been pegged as one of our top medal hopes. But F*ck Yeah, we’ll take it! Gold: Cooper Woods, Men’s Freestyle Moguls -
I’m ready to believe her tears were sincere. Welcome to making tough calls, Kirsty. But remember this pic if/when the IOC decides to re-admit Russia and Belarus.

Per the Associated Press: International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry was waiting for Heraskevych at the top of the track when he arrived at around 8.15am Thursday, or roughly 75 minutes before the start of the men’s skeleton race. They went into a private area and spoke briefly, and Coventry was unable to change Heraskevych’s mind. He was holding the decision from the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation when he briefly addressed reporters and said he would appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. “It’s hard to say or put into words. It’s emptiness,” he said. Coventry spoke with reporters after the meeting, tears rolling down her face as she spoke. “It’s a message of memory and no one is disagreeing with that,” Coventry said. The IOC added that it made its decision “with regret.”

How serious of a medal hope is he? If he’s not a legitimatel contender for the podium, he has nothing to lose. He’s already got heaps of publicity for the cause, running again with the helmet will get him even more, and if the IOC disqualifies him, the publicity runs into overdrive, he gets heaps of sympathy, and the IOC come out as the bad guys. Win-win.

Who Else is Sick of the Drones Buzz?
Sir Rols replied to Sir Rols's topic in Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games
Apparently, they’re custom manufactured by a Dutch company called Dutch Drone Gods. THIS IS WHAT’S BEHIND THE SPECTACULAR FPV DRONE SHOTS AT THE OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES As far I can tell, Intel have only done the light show display drones used in the PyeongChang and Tokyo opening ceremonies. Dutch Drone Gods have provided the broadcasting drones since Paris -
No, not the British one @Rob2012 This seems to be headed towards an inevitable flashpoint Ukrainian skeleton athlete ready to be disqualified over ‘helmet of memory

Oz’s Jakara Anthony might have crashed out in women’s moguls, but the event also brought another milestone Swedish skier becomes first transgender Winter Olympian Being male-to-female, Probsbly not enough ammunition for MAGA to pile on about, but NBC apparently still managed to stuff it up NBC Forced to Apologise After Misgendering Athlete at Winter Olympics -

Sir Rols replied to Sir Rols's topic in Milan Cortina 2026 Sports / Events Discussions
Well, there went our best chance at gold ‘I’m bummed’: Slip costs Australia’s Jakara Anthony dear as she loses moguls title That’s why I’m not keen on all these aerial/freestyle events. There’s so many, they’re all so similar (slide-jump-contort) and all so technical. Anyway, Scotty James qualified top in the snowboard halfpipe overnight. Let’s hope he doesn’t succumb to the same curse as got Jakara. And I quite like the halfpipe - still technical, but a bit different snd more spectacular IMO -
Who Else is Sick of the Drones Buzz?
Sir Rols replied to Sir Rols's topic in Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games
I thought the vuvzelas were part of the atmosphere. The drone buzz? It’s just like a swarm of wasps;s overlaying the action footage. Surely the OBS should be able to filter it out somehow in the audio processing? -

This is not the first major Team Oz news I would’ve hoped to post… Australian snowboard star Cam Bolton airlifted to hospital with broken neck
