  1. I'm sure that Brazil will have mass security to assure the safety of all Westerners during the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Rio Olympics. Even they know that not having mass security at those two events would damage the country's reputation. Both of those events will have large numbers of Westerners involved: ranging from athletes, to media to fans to officials.
  2. Brazil denies terrorism within its borders: http://news.yahoo.com/brazil-denies-terrorists-operate-within-borders-143644491.html;_ylt=AtFCYYeKnznrN0_YishEfDO3IxIF;_ylu=X3oDMTRjanN1ZXFqBG1pdANUb3BTdG9yeSAgV29ybGRTRiBMYXRpbkFtZXJpY2FTU0YEcGtnA2E4MmZjZWI0LTQzZmMtM2Y1Yy1iYWEwLWMzNDkwNWY5ODRjZQRwb3MDMTAEc2VjA3RvcF9zdG9yeQR2ZXIDNDM5ZWNlYWMtZDY5ZS0xMWUwLTliMmQtNzhlN2QxNWU5MWYy;_ylg=X3oDMTI3Z2FpbDN0BGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdAN3b3JsZHxsYXRpbiBhbWVyaWNhBHB0A3NlY3Rpb25zBHRlc3QD;_ylv=3
  3. Also always blaming the West for their problems.
  4. If Argentina loses the bidding, they'll blame the West.
  5. Good to see Natalie Coughlin return to the International scene.
  6. One positive coming out of any potential Denver 2022 bid would be that they don't have to spend money to build an Olympic Stadium. Invesco Stadium would be used easily for the ceremonies and the medal competitions. Sure, Invesco may need several million in a little spruce up job, but otherwise, a lot of money would be saved. it's one of the benefits of any North American Winter Games Bid: money won't be used to build an Olympic Stadium like there would be in any Summer Bid where an Olympic Stadium would have to be built to accomodate track and field and then shrunken in size to meet a need (which would cost more money). With Reno/Lake Tahoe, the University of Nevada football stadium would be used.
  7. As big of an MMA/UFC fan as I am, I don't see it happening. The sport is too bloody for the IOC, even moreso than boxing.
  8. So she went from a sport nobody in America watches to well....a sport in America nobody watches and is cut from that sport. It's the end of her sporting career, IMO.
  9. American Football would not happen....ever. it would be like Women's Basketball where the United States goes undefeated in several Olympics.
  10. He'd probably be better then the Younger Fujimori would have been as the Younger would have most likely pardoned her father. As for Chavez, I don't think he'll be healthy enough to stand for re-election next year.
  11. And he has ties to Hugo Chavez, although he has stated that he wants to be more like Lula then Chavez. I don't know if I believe that. If he becomes more like Chavez than Lula, then I think you can forget about Lima hosting the 2019 Pan American Games.
  12. If the plan is for the Olympic Stadium to someday be the home venue of an NFL team, the stadium won't scale down that much. 70,000 would seem to be the perfect number. It would still be relatively new and the NFL may not be able to resist passing on a new stadium North of the border.
  13. Garcia won't be there for much longer.
  14. Hell will freeze over before baseball returns to the Olympics.
  15. That means it won't happen. A delay for a month of Olympic baseball would mean the season would go all the way until Halloween with the World Series ending sometime around Thanksgiving.
  16. Come the fall, Turks might see NBA Star Deron Williams play for Besiktas: http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/news/story?id=6745426
  17. My main concern with the Istanbul bid is how the Americans would be treated while there, because Turkey is surrounded by countries not so friendly with the United States. How do Turks in general feel about Americans? emre, maybe you can ease some of those concerns.
  18. Can't they just eliminate baseball/softball already? What's the point of having Baseball as an Olympic sport when the best players in Baseball don't even play in the Olympics?
  19. Baseball won't happen because the IBAF won't be able to convince Major League Baseball to send its players to the Olympics. And because of that, the IOC most likely will vote to keep baseball (and softball) out of the 2020 Olympics.
  20. Well, the Toronto Olympic Stadium could be re-configured into a baseball stadium after the Olympics, like the Atlanta Olympic Stadium was. Turner Field, the current home of the Atlanta Braves was once the Atlanta Olympic Stadium where the opening ceremonies, the track and field events and the closing ceremonies were held. After the games, the satdium shrunk and was reconfigured to be a baseball only stadium. The same thing could happen to Toronto. Turner Field is one of the best stadiums in baseball currently. 21. If Toronto makes a bid and somehow wins, what would be the Post-Olympic plans for the Toronto Olympic Stadium? Would it be a new stadium for the Blue Jays and Argonauts? Or does it become a stadium that lures an NFL team away from an existing city. And if it becomes a new stadium for the Bule Jays, what happens to Rogers Center?
  22. In which the United States will roll through the competition, perhaps even without Diana Tuarasi.
  23. Speaking of which, has Dara announced her future?
