  1. Totally just posted on the wrong thread, ah well, here it is again... Amazing, slightly gutted that i gave into temptation but i would have found out about this idea sometime. I'm so glad they're including the national flowers in the ceremony, i remember years ago i wanted something like that to happen. I believe these flowers could possibly represent the olympic rings. Green hills, yellow daff, red rose, blue flax, and i'm pretty sure the thistle is dark enough to be the black ring as well judging by the prototype.

  3. I can visualize a small-scale cauldron that won't compete with the orbit, and Boris probably ruined the plan of a tower to the north of the stadium (The one from the planning pdf that's been around for years) ever since introducing his orbit to the park. I can't see the area above the elevator shaft on the tower as a place for the cauldron either, as Heatherwick's design won't be able to be seen properly or appreciated. The orbit may even be a distraction, as not everyone will know that Heatherwick is behind the actual design and the orbit is the next most obvious thing to house the cauldron. That being said I think the orbit would make a very interesting lighting sequence with all the twists and spirals so they might go down the 'nice and pretty' lighting route, therefore Heatherwick might add something clever to the orbit. I'm not gunna stick around on this thread for much longer now anyways as I want to be surprised. I think it's only a matter of time until proper clues and hints start to show up (Excluding the orbit).
  4. As amazing as that might look the cauldron can't obstruct people's view from the events taking place on the track and field, not to forget that it can't get in the way of the screens as well :/ I'm stooped as to where the cauldron will be. The orbit is my first guess personally.
  5. If the theme is Isles of wonder then I presume all of the UK will be included some way or another
  6. I can see Nimrod being a tearjerker if it's definitely included, but if they decide to make a contemporary twist then they'll need to be very clever to pull it off successfully! Can't believe these games are just around the corner
  7. Let's not forget that Boyle has only suggested that there'll be a lot of music, he hasn't pointed out that we'll see a lot of well-known music artists in the OC. Sorry I'm about to bring this up, but Beijing had a lot of music - not all by famous faces, and there was chanting (like it or not, it's musical). So let's not jump on the 'ColdSpiceBeatles 7' band-waggon just yet Generally speaking, I'm expecting urban, traditional british rock and maybe the old classic composition to add a nice contrast (e.g. The Greensleves rendition in the handover)
  8. Coldplay would be a very good choice Very uplifting songs!
  9. Does that mean that sunset will be at 10pm with these plans? Because the clocks are planned to go forward an extra hour...
  10. Plans have emerged to move the UK time zone to the European time zone, meaning the evenings will be lighter (and mornings darker). It is claimed that the move will boost tourism (Particularly in London 2012). Looks like the chances of seeing a sunset Cauldron lighting are getting slimmer http://uk.news.yahoo.com/38/20110221/tuk-plans-to-move-uk-to-european-time-zo-107bc4a.html
  11. I imagine it would be pretty beautiful to see the cauldron lit at sunset, like the first visual of the stadium;
  12. How do we know that this Cauldron lighting thing is a reliable source? I remember reading an article stating the Ceremony will start at 20:12 (Similar to what Beijing did at 20:08 because of the whole prosperity and luck thing). I'm sure Boyle believes that it's a better idea to light the Cauldron in the dark where it's most visible and firework friendly
