  1. Athens' and Torino's sites, and even the ones for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and Doha Asian Games were awesome and easy to use, far superior to Beijing's site at this point. Beijing's is rather muddled, but they still have time to work out the kinks. Maybe they'll work out a deal with Yahoo or Microsoft or Lenovo. Probably not, but there's plenty of time. By the way, love the sig P2K4, Elena is a honey
  2. Well I did save a lot of the Torino version of NBCOlympics.com to cd, so I'm covered. The video's great, but that's the only thing those NBC bastards have done right of late. They interrupted Game 5 of the Ottawa-Buffalo Eastern Conference Finals in the NHL to cover the Preakness warmups. They chose horses walking in circles instead of playoff overtime hockey, those NBC idiots are just like everyone else, trying to shove the "hockey is for anti-American wussy losers" message down our throats. I'm so mad at them right now...
  3. Seems to me like the protestors are hurting their cause. The more they threaten harm to the VNOC members and the Olympics themselves, the more Vancouver and B.C. citizens will turn against them and be in favour of the Games. That's my point of view, like that it matters, which it doesn't.
  4. Thanks for the pics of the city, I cannot wait to go there for the Games.
  5. I'm sure you remeber Lordi, last year's winner... well guess where they are now...OZZFEST, where they should have been all along. http://www.ozzfest.com/bands.html So they go from sharing a stage with Anna Vissi to being with OZZY OSBOURNE. Talk about a hell of an upgrade. And the lineup is awesome, aside from Lordi, there's Hatebreed, Lamb of God, Nile, and 3 Inches of Blood. More bands are going to be lined up, and boy do I hope to go to the Kansas City show. And tickets are FREE this year. 07/12/2007 THU White River Amphitheatre, Seattle, WA 07/14/2007 SAT The Gorge, George, WA 07/1
  6. Well they have TSN, RDS, and canada.com on board I believe.
  7. Could someone kindly explain to me the meaning and significance of this being the Year of the Pig? I'm sorry if I sound ignorant, I don't want to be that, I just want to know a bit more.
  8. Nice to see pics of the lovely Deborah, Isolde, Carolina and Manuela. Gorgeous ladies they are Carolina just won the Euro skating championship, something no Italian had ever done, so things have worked out for her since.
  9. The rest of you will not like this, but I've come up with my own version of Eurovision, though it's made up entirely or rock and metal <headbangs>. If the thing existed, it would be called the Bang Your Head Festival: The Anti-Eurovision. No wussy crap, all real music for once. And plenty of mosh pits. Here's what I've come up with: Germany- Oomph! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7xBpCH5vu4 Sweden Amon Amarth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFq2YJKYa-k I'm including Italia (even though have no part in regular Eurovision), my pick for them-Lacuna Coil http://www.youtube.com/watch?v
  10. And to think this is just a sampling of what I'm going to enjoy because I'll be there in Vancouver and Whistler for the Games! Just wish it were 2010 already..
  11. Shame that it's been forgotten, but really an anniversary of an event most Italians didn't care for (or didn't even know it was being played out on Italian soil) pales in comparison to the fallout from the riots in Catania last week. However, Italia's two Olympic Stadia (Roma and Torino) are among the six that meet the new safety requirements by the FIGC, CONI and the federal government. Also, does anyone find it weird that Italia, a warm, sunny Meditteranean country has held more Winter Games than Summer?
  12. I know I don't really care for this, but I thought the rest of you would be interested in this... I read in the Lacuna Coil forums that one of Finland's performers, Katra I think, is doing a ripoff of a track called Jillian by one of my favourite metal bands, Within Temptation. Hear and see for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpqgMoYrkas R I P O F F ! ! ! !
  13. Sponsorship is a necessary evil. I don't like the fact that the Olympic spirit has been sold out to the highest bidder in terms of sponsorship, but the Olympics would not survive without it, so like I said it's a necessary evil. Also, if these corporate sponsors have so much money why can't they, as well as the UN, and the various national Olympic committees help pay the bill for the Games, so that it can ease some of the pressure on the taxpayers, the ones who pay for the event but can't afford to attend.
  14. Here's what I have to say about Eurovision: I could care less about it. I'll sit back and let the rest of you fight over something that's as pointless as a cow kite. In the meantime, wake me when there are more rock/metal bands involved <yawn>.
  15. Dominica (not the Dominican Republic) is mostly French speaking, and they are in the Commonwealth.
  16. Um yeah I think I posted the link to it if I'm not mistaken....
  17. I know this is irrelevant, but does anyone have clips of the Calgary 1988 Closing and Albertville 1992 Ceremonies? I doubt anyone has the clips but I guess it's worth a shot.
  18. Yeah but they worked didn't they? That's all that matters.
  19. I don't know if they'd consider using a moose or salmon trout as possible mascots. This is a rather dumb idea, but I'm just throwing it out there. More than likely there will be more than one mascot, with at least one male and one female.
  20. If anyone's interested I have found a few vids from Sarajevo 1984 (I've never watched any part of their ceremonies so for me this was terrific) and Calgary 1988. "Can't You Feel It" from the Closing Ceremony at McMahon Stadium The Ode to Joy Wrap Up for Calgary 1988, the final Games for ABC The first part of a review of the Sarajevo Opening Part two of the Sarajevo Opening review
  21. I already have the cds for the Sydney Opening and Melbourne Opening and Closing, but this is pretty nice, though every time I tried to open Tin Symphony there was an error message, so if anyone has that I hope they'd consider uploading it. Thanks though. Here's a few tracks: Sarah Blasko-Don't Dream It's Over http://www.filefactory.com/file/566413/ The Church-Under the Milky Way http://www.filefactory.com/file/c4820d/ Grinspoon-Hard Act to Follow http://www.filefactory.com/file/f140bc/ Claudio Bagliani- Va (Go) http://www.filefactory.com/file/f140bc/ Inno Italiano-Torino 2006 http:/
  22. I have several favourite moments of the Games. Kakalamanakis lighting the flame was terrific. Fani Halkia's gold win in the 400m hurdles was mind blowing, that literally blew the roof off of the stadium. Shot put at ancient Olympia, the very ground where the Games, and sport as we know it, was born. Sheer brilliance, as was having the marathon finish at the 1896 stadium. South Africa's win in the 4X100 relay in swimming was exciting and shook the U.S. and Australia to the core. Hicham El Garrouj's double in the 1500m and 5000m was one of the more emotional moments as he had waited 8 long years
  23. I can't believe it's been two whole years already since the start of one of the greatest Games of all time, defying all doomsday predicitions and forecasts. Athens, the city where the modern Olympic Games began, and the Hellenic Republic, or Greece, where the Olympic Games were born, gave the world, in my opinion, the greatest Opening Ceremony ever. It was a wonderful show from start to finish, with the exception of Bjork, so I'll give Torino its due there in having Luciano Pavarotti, though I'm no fan of opera obviously. Torino did put on a good show this past February, but with very little,
  24. Well if anyone's interested, here's Grinspoon's performance at the Melbourne Closing. Awesome performance by a great band (at least to me)
