  1. looks like a viral marketing campaign sponsored by samsung. In every video someone is using what appears to be one of their smartphones. Also, the whois info on the domain points to samsung servers.
  2. Media reports that the budget for the opening ceremony will be of around USD 100 million. You can google translate this link if you can't read portuguese (http://veja.abril.com.br/blog/radar-on-line/esportes/1067993/). Does anyone here know the final price tag on recent opening ceremonies? This article also mentions that the general theme of the ceremony will of a "modern Brazil" and after the approval from the President (expected until the end of the year) an artistic director will be chosen to create the show. What do you guys think that could mean? What would you say would represent a "modern Brazil" in a Ceremony?
  3. The stadium was closed due to risk of collapsing. It is true that the stadium will be partially renovated/modified for the games, but those plans do not include a new roof (at least they didn't, now they do...). It is a shame that such a new (and supposedly modern) stadium is already having problems. The stadium was built by either the city or the state of rio, right?
  4. I think a good opening scene even before the countdown would be a bird's eye view of the city, like a plane flying over the city and approaching the stadium to the sound of "samba do aviao" (famous bossa nova song about a person contemplating the city from a plane as it lands at rio's airport). It would be a serene start, with beautiful scenery and the sunset. In terms of elements for the ceremony, i'd like to see something about the military dictatorship and how democracy was restablished in the late 80's. Particularly, i'd like to see some of the beautiful protest songs created by several musical movements from that period. It would be a nice way to include artists such as caetano veloso and chico buarque. Also, should they try to claim the airplane as a brazilian legacy to the world? It's a disputable idea, but since we are paying for the party we might as well tell history in our terms, ritght? That would be fun.
  5. fyi, i'm brazilian too. and i am not a drug user, if that's what you think. so don't go around accusing other people. show a little respect, please, i am sure you are capable of it. as a brazilian, you should learn to take a joke, too. it will help you in your future. moving on, one can not deny that all those elements are associated with brazil and the city of rio. and given the recent turn around in violence (the so called "pacification" projects), it is very likely that favelas will be a part of the ceremony. maybe a transformation segment. allthough i don't like to idea of focusing too much on rio and too little on the rest of the country.
  6. why is he required to write positive stuff about rio? it was a joke and a funny one. chill out.
  7. So which themes do you think they will use in the ceremony to present brazil to the world? Greece used math, philosophy, theater. China had the compass, moving typewriter, etc. London went for the industrial revolution and the internet. Can brazil try to claim airplanes? What else? Pao de queijo and brigadeiro?
  8. I know its too soon, Bit I don't think there will be a Cauldron on the roof of maracana stadium. I'd say it will be another indoor cauldron.
  9. Except brazil was only ranked higher than the uk due to foreign exchange fluctuations and it seems we will loose that position and return to 9th or 10th. Now back to the closing, brazilian media is reporting that the handover sequence is "integrated" into the whole closing ceremony for the first time. What does that mean.
  10. So this could be the second time the OC starts with helicopter, following beijing08.
  11. Just because LA84 had water doesnt mean they cant do it again. Sydney had fire on water (the cauldron) and Athens had fire on water (the opening segment) and that wasnt a problem at all.
  12. It's been reported in Brazilian press that singers Marisa Monte and Seu Jorge will perform at the closing ceremony. Might be interesting. Seu Jorge is a good option to include samba in the ceremony without bringing the whole "samba school" circus to London.
  13. The article is about Filmmaster Group, the company that will produce Rio's handover segment and also the Opening Ceremony in 2016. (you can just create your login/profile and read it for free. there's not much info there, though) I am actually glad they will use the "carnival/samba school parade" cliche for the handover as it gives me hope we will not see any of this on the actual opening ceremony in 2016.
  14. Any news on the hand over segment? What is rio planning for the closing ceremony?
