The new Wind Turbine Tower is now installed atop Grouse Mountain and it sure looked good glistening in the morning sunshine. It's painted white and you'll see it near the peak. It's easily visible from Vancouver and even the eastern suburbs. Is actually visible from Surrey but binoculars help.
Today they add the three spokes that will turn in the wind. The Turbine will generate about one quarter of Grouse Mtn.'s electrical needs.
The tower is 200 feet high and will have an elevator and observation deck. Adding the spokes will give a 300 foot overall height.

Wow! This is exciting! The Roof may indeed come off BC Place for the Olympics!
Read this article where they say how they will light the Flame inside the Stadium and still have it visible outside is a closely guarded secret.
Right now, pink coloured cranes are around BC Place and there is currently roof work going on as they are dismantling the ring beam that seals the roof to the structure!

The news conference will feature Taylor Swift redoing her acceptance speech that Kayne West so rudely interrupted.
No word on whether Kayne West will show up holding a model of the Retractable roof.
If the future of BC Place is not announced Friday, it'll be announced as soon as the Whitecaps get eliminated in the playoffs

The teflon roof is not designed to handle the 4000 degree heat from the Flame.
The teflon dome will blow up.
That is why we need a Retractable Roof. The Government has pulled financing, so the Whitecaps will have to pay for a Retractable

No taxes for roof
Private money could rescue the planned retractable roof for B.C. Place Stadium, said the minister responsible.
"We won't be paying the extra out of taxpayers' funds," Kevin Krueger told 24 hours yesterday. "People are working together to find a way with a private sector partnership, potentially including the bidders, perhaps including the unions."
The $365 million project is under review by treasury board because of rising cost estimates. Completion is planned for 2011.
"We don't have to do it, if government had to we could just replace the existing roof," Krueger said. "A lot of people want a retractable roof and they're willing to partner to get it. I believe we'll have partners and we'll get it done."
Krueger denied technical issues have driven up costs for the pioneering project.
"No one has expressed any concerns at all about the engineering or ability to construct it," he said.

Cypress Mountain isn’t the only Olympic venue where rain wreaked havoc with VANOC last week.
24 hours has learned that a large quantity of water cascaded through drainage holes on B.C. Place Stadium’s roof and crashed to the floor around 8 p.m. Thursday night.

The roof is under stress from the weight of light and speaker trusses hung for the 2010 Winter Olympics’ Feb. 12 opening ceremony.
“It appeared like a waterfall,” said a source who declined to be named.
VANOC, stadium management and roof maintenance contractor Riggit Services met Friday.
A third person was added to Riggit’s crew, which is on-call around the clock at the Olympic ceremonies stadium.

officials did not respond to interview requests on Sunday.
“I can’t comment on that,” said Riggit president Rick Smith. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve got contracts, I can’t speak to any reporters.”
A tent and blue hoses were visible on the roof Sunday.
Last Wednesday, VANOC closed snowboarding and freestyle skiing venue Cypress because rain and high temperatures wiped snow off the slopes.
