  1. French Sunday paper publishes 1998 internal UEFA memo to FIFA which includes reference to payment agreement between Platini and FIFA.

    http://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1032301/hope-for-platini-but-new-us-department-of-justice-indictment-keeps-heat-on-leading-fifa-officials

French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche has published a memo today which it says was presented to UEFA Executive Committee members in November 1998 and recorded the fact that Platini was being paid CH1 million (£664,000/$1 million/€923,000) a year for work he was doing for FIFA.

Platini's lawyer Thomas Clay called the 23-page document "important evidence".

"From the moment that we have proof of an agreement between FIFA and Mr Platini, and of knowledge of this agreement by officials of UEFA, then this inquiry falls down," he told news agency Reuters.

"For us, it's very important evidence that Mr Platini has always been telling the truth.

"It shows that the contract did not have any sort of secret character and that many people, including those in UEFA and FIFA, have known about it since 1998."

So they knew about that agreement all the time!

    Hard cheese Splatter!

And better luck next time you son of a b****!!!

  2. That is a bunch of crap. If tragedies actually affect the chance of hosting the games, Tokyo would never have won the right to host the games. If anything this might give them more sympathetic voters. Although, I'm concerned if the Paris bid will stay in the race after this.

    I don't see why it shouldn't....

  3. It's up to the IOC to pick the best bid for them. As they did for 2008 and 2012. They have nothing to prove to the French,.

They may perhaps have nothing to prove to the French but they certainly have a lot to prove to any other potential bidders if they don't want the recent debacle to happen again....

  4. Not so much 'pessimism' as 'realism'. The French remember what happened on the three previous occasions and they trust the members of the IOC only as far as they can throw 'em!

It's for the IOC to now show a clean pair of hands and show that they have - finally - got their act together and rooted out all the rotten wood....

  5. Seems kind of far. Could they not hold sailing at Cherbourg or Le Havre? Also any word as to whether or not the new national rugby stadium (82,000 with retractable roof) in nearby Evry will be used?

Marseille is just a 3 hour train (railroad) ride from Paris using the TGV. It was the 2013 European capital of culture.

It's also an incredibly warm and friendly city......that's if you don't get lost in the Quartiers Nord!

  6. Well, by that logic, if the US is not voting along with the region then there's no reason why Europe will vote along with their region either and they have far more sway in terms of votes than North America. Which means they'll probably vote for Toronto vs a European rival candidate, it's in their NOC's interests to do so. So basically, the Caribbean, Europe and most Muslim countries would probably vote for Toronto in a showdown with Paris. Australia, Latin America (leaning towards Canada) and Africa (50-50 split) will be a toss up, the Commonwealth and Muslim aspect vs the Francophonie aspect could sway votes there either way. Most of the Francophonie countries are Muslim so that could work against Paris as delegates there would likely be pretty furious about the burqa ban in Paris and the divisive debate associated with it. Meanwhile, Toronto is welcoming and comfortable to all religious views.

Exactly, Paris will just win this anyway, it's in the bag, are you listening Hamburg? Istanbul? London? Budapest? Rome? You know who to campaign against during the bid process...

P.S. Muslim, Jewish, Indian delegates, your partner has a headscarf? You want them to be able to attend an olympic city without being discriminated against? You know who to campaign against during the bid process...

    Very interesting.

That poster + the message you posted on another thread gives us a unique insight into what a potential Toronto 2024 strategy will be to counter the Paris bid.

    Thanks for that.

Just hope it doesn't come back to bite you in the a*** in a future Toronto bid......

  7. JO2024- you need to wind it down a bit- your attitude is terrible and a put off even to Paris 2024 supporters like myself.

The French bid team seem to be working hard to ensure this bid is asshat free, so why don't you cooperate and turn it down a notch.

    Agreed.....

  8. Delicious irony! ;)

I don't think Lee has lost any bid he has ever worked on so that's yet one more card to pile on top of the many other cards already stacked in Paris' favour for this bid! :)

Indeed, much better to have him for Paris 2024 than for Hamburg, Boston, Rome or Budapest. Well done Paris on getting him! Smart move. He did after all helped London get 2012, Rio get 2016 and Tokyo get 2020, why would it stop there? Let's make it this time, come on!!

I seem to remember Mike Lee was also instrumental in getting the 2022 WC awarded to Qatar after having been overlooked by the British 2018 team......

    ^_^

  9. Too bad though that the IOC won't see it that way, & that Paris 2024 would be smart in not making any hints about such a thing.

We are smart enough to not make any hints on that very touchy subject.

Nevertheless scaring off any future bidder will be the elephant in the room.......

    They know it.

    We know it.

And we know that they know that we know it........

    :P

  10. ALSO.. Blatter HAS NOT resigned..... he intends to 'stand down' in 6 to 12 months...... unless of course you trust him 100% to keep his word.

He'll need all that time to do the shredding!! ^_^

I agree with Michelle, Noël Le Graët is an absolute buffoon who needs to be kicked out of the FFF now!!

As to who will succeed Splatter, Platini may not be perfect but in the cesspit that is FIFA he is one of the rosier smelling ones........

  11. Am I the only one that doesn't think Coe is that charismatic? He's always struck me as quite cold and even abrasive.

.....with a tendency to confuse his personnal finances with those of LOCOG!

as revealed by Channel Four's 'Dispatches' investigation.

  12. Random question that's probably been asked already (I'm a bit too tired to go through 125 pages...), but what are the chances of this being derailed by referendum?

Paris mayor, Anne Hidalgo, stated that the Parisians would be "consulted". What form that consultation would take wasn't specified. It seems, nevertheless, that a full on referendum isn't on the cards......

Roland Garros is usable as it is for Olympic Games. If Paris get the Games, it will be improved no matter what, though it's been a struggle lately. The IOC won't care much I think, they were happy with it back in 2005, so...

    Seconded....

  13. A new poll shows that 58% of the parisiens are in favour of the games, but 72% want a referendum. The numbers are going down compared to the previous poll, but I'm not really worried. Nothing quite official has been presented to the people of Paris, so they don't really know what the Games could be like. 2 years and half to change that.

The poll was published in a Sunday newspaper:

Anne Hidalgo has also hinted that there might be a referendum in 2016. Her exact words were that "the Parisians will be consulted in 2016" (video in French):

    Lastly and unsurprisingly!

    PS: ignore previous post.....

  14. A new poll shows that 58% of the parisiens are in favour of the games, but 72% want a referendum. The numbers are going down compared to the previous poll, but I'm not really worried. 15. Umm, remember a time when everyone was anointing another European city as the divinely rightful host of a certain Centennial Games and a pesky American city came along and stole the show.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Money talks and bullsh!t walks. The lure of substantial American money. Need I say more.

I can't say that I completely disagree with that statement!!

    ^_^

  16. That's not a good sign for SOG 2024...but it doesn't officially cut off a 2024 bid. Cities still have until September this year to officially bid or not.

It looks like the announcement of the Expo bid was also a way to show off the new Louis Vuitton Foundation bldg, more than anything else. If this was entirely official, it should've been done on the steps of the Hotel de Ville or some official city landmark.

The Paris Hotel de Ville where the 2024 announcement was made is a 19th century building. The Louis Vuitton foundation is a 21st century one.

Both bids (2024 & 2025) showcase what we did best yesterday and what we do best today and tomorrow!
