  1. oops....forgot about that air pressure roof, guess it might collapse if that exit hole is bigger than the tube!
  2. I tried to make it slightly "less BAD". How about a cylindrical pedestal topped with a glass cylinder the starts below the roof and extends beyond! Still bad, but slightly less so.
  3. Here's a bad drawing of a probably equally bad idea....just for fun! Glass encased cauldron column...out the roof! Hoping someone else will have a better idea!
  4. I'm sure you may have seen this... http://www.cwgdelhi2010.org/Template3.aspx?pageid=P:1029
  5. Bad satire TV show in US. Based on Conservative Cable new shows...I.E. Fox.
  6. Does anyone know the story of all the spectators in yellow with the yellow soft-sticks (those things you wave around and cheer with)? Obviously the are Chinese, are the organized cheerleaders/seat warmers? They look very "staged" and robotic.
  7. Thanks, that's cool link with a lot of good pictures!
  8. Well I hope it happen, and they make tons of money. If we can figure out something great for the stadium issue, it will be a fantastic games. Chicago will be transformed by these games, it will push them to another level and create (I believe) an enormous period of the right kind of growth for an important city, much admired but underestimated internationally.
  9. Do you mean good because of the revenue possibilities on a US game in a time zone conducive to live viewer-ship? NBC has a huge headquarters in Chicago in a very popularity high rise built for them. (I hate that building) I hope this presence will be a positive element in the 2016 selection.
  10. By who's watching the competition? I watched last night till 3am, the Venezuelans and US Volleyball match but I don't know ho many in the US are going to stay tuned. An every time I open my computer the results are revealed. Looking forward to 2016 in Chicago, otherwise I have to go to the games next time.
  11. I was noticing all the empty seats, so I looked on line. There were a lot for sale through the BO2008 web site still!
  12. Yes I realize Herzog & de Meuron collaborated with Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, I was kind of just kidding, BUT.......lets just agree the Nagano cauldron is fantastic and thoroughly original.
  13. Now here is a fantastic looking cauldron..... Wonder where Beijing got the idea for "the birds nest?
  14. Perhaps the size of the city, and it's impersonal nature are not conducive to that warm Olympic feeling? What have you seen?
  15. That was MUCH better than Beijing. The announcer spoke with such passion! Very moving.
  16. The cauldron lighting did not seem to reach the level (no pun intended) that it hope to or could have. Surprising with such an unlimited budget it didn't achieve more impact. How about if some sort of stiff metal spiral "scroll/fuse" was lowered from the cauldron to the arena floor, where the last torch bearer could ignite the flame that would travel up to meet and ignite the cauldron! OR The flame could be shot along a wire (like in the beginning of the ceremony) from the last torch bearer on the stadium floor to the rim where it could run around the entire opening rim of the stadium to the ignite the cauldron!
