  1. That is so so so stupid. A good ceremonies needs lots of fireworks.
  2. I thought Atlanta was fun, it wasn't trying to take its self seriously. Maybe that's just 90s nostalgia.
  3. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I thought that was the worst segment iv ever seen in anything to do with the Olympics.
  4. You enjoyed everything? Even the texting segment? The rapping? The strange inclusion of the Cosby show?
  5. Yeah, that part was hilarious and random, adding to my not understanding of whats going on AT ALL.
  6. Everyone iv spoken with personally who wasn't British didn't like it. Canadian, European, American, whatever.
  7. Mostly the texting segment, the only thing that really wow'ed me was the rings. The anthem, countdown, NHS segment were all pretty bad IMHO. Its annoying you cant edit your own posts.. Just pay attention to the bottom text.
  8. I could have excused the chaos completely had it not been for a few truly awful bits. Thats what in the end killed it for me.
  9. I think Sochi will be epic, it will probably be on the scale of a summer opening and might just surpass a few of them.
  10. Is Olivia Chow against a bid? Looks like she might be the next mayor. You would NOT want Rob Ford anywhere near an Olympic bid.
  11. They should have gone with someone more familiar with theater direction. I think one of the issues may have been he tried to direct it as if it was a movie.
  12. I think it was in large part due to you being in the stadium, thats just a guess but I know if I was there in person I probably would have loved it too!
  13. Not at all Davey, I completely understand your opinion. I think perhaps the ceremony was directed in a way where the British public would better understand it. To an outsider though, as many have said it didn't really make much sense. I also think this is the first time a ceremony has been directed in such a way, it isnt a bad thing as the tax payers who funded it loved it, but those of us outside looking in where left largely unsatisfied, if not disappointed. It was my least favourite ceremony over all, but it certainly wasn't an embarrassment and the British should be very proud.
  14. Yeah everyone iv talked to locally was disappointed by it, some even going as far as to say it reminded them of the MTV music awards... I wouldn't go that far, although the texting segment... ugh. Just so inconsistent.
  15. Yeah, every Brit iv talked to also loved it. International reception has been mixed though.
  16. I think it was a show loved by Brits, found to be mediocre by everyone else.
  17. Oh sure they take great pride in their place in the world and how they rank along Western nations, but thats doesn't mean they want to be perceived as Western. There was indeed a great effort to Westernize Japan in the 19th century, but that was more than 100 years ago and things have greatly changed since then. They have their own system where its feasible, rather than just adopting something from afar.
  18. The Japanese don't have any drive to be perceived as Western, they have a very proud national culture and work very hard in keeping outside influences out. Christmas was imported to Japan by corporations to make money, its the same thing with other western holidays like halloween and valentines day.
  19. 60% of Canadians did not vote for this government. Your point has a massive flaw, in the past, the Canadian government had no bias and if this were still the case we would have abstained from voting. Instead we took the extreme measure of voting against, further isolating our selves when it comes to the discussion on the middle east conflict. Also, the Israelis have no real reason to appose the Palestinian request other than to keep them from laying charges in the UN human rights council against Israel which was their main fear. Not exactly true, the Liberals would have abstained and the
  20. The Canadian government does not represent the will of the Canadian people. The current government has a massive bias concerning the Israel-Palestine conflict.
  21. I still enjoy Beijing, Athens, Sydney, etc after all those years and many times watching them. London I'm not sure ill bother watching again.
