  1. By the moment (March, 2016) Only one Central American city has shown its interest in biddig for 2023 Pan Am: San Juan, Puerto Rico that hosted Pan Am in 1979. When there is no official candidates, There are at least 3 South Amaerican countries interested in bidding: Argentina, Chile and Colombia. Mar del Plata wants to bring back the Games that hosted in 1995. By 2023, it will be 28 years after they hosted it. Santiago wants to give another try. After failing for 2019, hit by Lima, the Presidente Michelle Bachelet herself gave the announcement of the intention to bid. Nevertheless, it has not been confirmed again. Santiago pulled out twice: in 1975 and 1987. Both claiming politicial and financial problems. Santiago hosted the 2014 South American Games and 2015 Copa América Colombia has shown its interest in bid with 3 cities: Bogotá, Cali and Medellín. Cali hosted the Pan Am in 1971, Medellín hosted the 2010 South American Games and Cali hosted the 2013 World Games Apparently, and how the things are happening up to here, 2023 Pan Am are going to be hosted in South American soils for a second time in a row.
  2. BBC Brazil made a report about 2016 ceremonies. Here is the link. It's written in Portuguese. Anyway it's translated by Google translator, so grammar mistakes are obvious... But here is for you to make an idea of what is going on.... http://www.bbc.com/portuguese/noticias/2016/02/160205_video_abertura_rio2016_jp#share-tools Rio 2016:'sensory experience' surprise at the opening ceremony, says producer. Outside the media player. Press enter to return the tab to continue. Despite the low budget and the hunt for more volunteers, the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will not be "simple, nor poor", but "rich and sophisticated," right to the "sensory experiences" , say those responsible for the shows. The exact six months to the opening of the Games, the BBC Brazil visited the company's headquarters where 250 people work in the creation of shows and also the Maracana stage of the four great shows that will be under the spotlight of the entire planet and should be assisted by more than 3 billion people around the world. According to Flávio Machado, vice president of the consortium Ceremonies Cariocas 2016, responsible for the events, the public's view, is this the Maracana or who attend the house show, will be fairly exploited. But ensures that not only will it. "There are people who have visual impairment, then have to realize the space over the hearing, other senses," he says. Many of the details of the opening ceremonies of the Rio Games must remain stored under lock and key, as is tradition in any Olympics. The expectation is that the names of the participating artists and the exact costs are not disclosed. But Machado took the report to the location where the ideas have been designed, and explained how the work is done. The shows, he says, "not squander" - will have much smaller budget than the London (2012) and Beijing (208), for example. "Especially because the world does not support that kind of spending, are other times," he says. Asked about the impact of up to 30% cuts announced in the 2016 Budget Committee, he, who is also executive producer of the Paralympic ceremonies, said that the money for the ceremonies did not suffer reduction. The idea, says, is to bet on creativity, "using what Brazil has to offer Past, present and future Machado said that the Olympic opening ceremony should have three steps of Brazil, showing the history, the present and the future of the country both the form seen by Brazilians as the rest of the world, and that the closure will be "a great Rio Carnival" directed by Rosa Magalhaes, carnivalesque five times champion in Rio by different schools of samba. "At the opening we have all the protocol, the expectation and anxiety. It's a great time, especially for athletes. Since the closure is lighter, festive, it's time to relax and celebrate. Let's turn the Maracana in a large Rio Carnival" explains. The Paralympic ceremonies will focus on another way to show athletes, reinforcing the "super-senses" they develop and the high performance achieved. "We want to make people rethink what they understand as disability, because all human beings have weaknesses and imperfections. The Paralympics show people with disabilities achieving high performance. We'll show that too at the opening ceremony," he says. Numbers, model, expectations Given the grandiose dimensions of the Olympics, which is expected to attract more than 500,000 tourists and attract attention from around the world, the ceremonies could not be outdone. The tunnels Maracana should spend 10,500 Olympic athletes and 4,300 Paralympic athletes from 206 different delegations. To stage the choreography and artistic and musical performances, 12,000 volunteers will be needed - of which 8,000 have signed up. "We are confident, we never found this to be a problem in Brazil," says Machado, adding that his team has gone to great public places in Rio to "hunt" interested. In all, 500 hours of testing, 400,000 hours of work and 10 000 costumes. The teams already do weekly meetings in Progress, in downtown Rio to test choreographies, effects and ideas. In the tour of the warehouse where some of the creative team of the ideas are conceived, Machado showed the BBC Brazil one Maracana stadium model with about 10 meters wide. "It is useful for us to be able to test everything that is being developed and thought here, to see if it really works on the scale, and if it makes sense. It gives to test projections, large elements, and so we have a much closer sense of reality "explains Maracanã In the tour of the real stadium, Machado pointed out some of the difficulties the team faces, as the width of the access tunnel to the field, which should make the parade of athletes a little longer than usual in the opening ceremonies. He explained that the stadium will be "transformed into a theater." They will be used 14 km of cables, 2,000 guns of light and 3000 kilograms of fireworks. "We will have an air network cables to be used in stunts and performances," he says. Asked about artists and musical attractions, Machado says can not reveal names, but said that new rhythms like samba and bossa will certainly present. According to the executive producer, his team is aware of the enormous expectations about work, and hopes to create "memorable moments". "We seek to make a ceremony a memorable one. We want to get at least one point of the four ceremonies memorable, which is a very bold objective, but we are working on it. In a few years, when people remember the Games Rio, probably they will remember something that happened in the ceremonies.
  3. Someone has a link where Can I watch de Opening Ceremony???? There is only one part on YouTube.... but no more videos...
  4. Even if i'ts true, Mexico has few chances, since is too early to stage two Pan Am Games: in 2011 they hosted them in Guadalajara....
  5. Due to rules of protocol, speeches must no be so long... In 2007 Vasquez Raña (RIP), in Rio Pan Am OC, delayed in his speech about 30 minutes... Surprisingly, 4 years later in Guadalajara OC, his speech lasted no more than 5 minutes.... In Santiago South American Games OC in 2010, Nuzman speech lasted no more than 5 minutes, too... And latin politicians tend to have very long speeches, specially when they are left-wing ones.... But nobody more than temselves and their "fans" put up with them..... Surely it will not happen in the Olympics.. timing is very expensive on TV boradcasting...
  6. Someone has posted videos of the dress rehearsals of the 2015 Pan Am opening ceremony https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5a9mQJMyx2o
  7. Maybe in Brazil repeat the2007 Pan Am ceremony for the Opening show.... (Best Pan Am ceremony ever) As Seoul did in 1988 repeating 1986 Asiad ceremonies ....
  8. We don't know if the timing will be as exact as they mention.... Rio 20117 Pan Am ceremonies lasted about 40 minutes and from the beggining to the last minute was fascinating!!!! I insist we'll have back the old ways to make ceremonies (Barcelona's style). About the timing of the performances.... At least we already know that it won't be as long as Sochi was..... Remember that Athens performances lasted about 40 minutes being, ath that time, the shortest Olympic ceremony performances ever... Brazilians have a huge sense of creativity (just look over the Rio Carnival) and ceremonies are about more creativity than luxury... Take a look on Sochi ceremonies, destpite having one of the highest budget nobody wowed about their presentations.... Indeed, it was the Russian version of Vancouver ceremonies
  9. Rio 2016 Ceremonies to cost 1/10 of 4 years ago London ceremonies... Creativity, not luxury is the topic for the first Olympics ceremonies ever to be held in South America http://riotimesonline.com/brazil-news/rio-sports/low-budget-forecast-for-rios-2016-olympic-opening-ceremony/ According to the director of the ceremonies, who was the director of the Oscar-nominated movie "City of God", the low budget won't be a problem for their creavity... Taking in consideration the luxuriois ceremonies held in Beijing or Sochi .... Are Rio ceremonies to fade out what host cities have made so far? Do you think a huge budget is necesary for a spectacular ceremony??? May the Rio ceremonies bring back the old ways to make ceremonies ... more "human" not technological.... Remember, the cost of Barcelona ceremonies was 11 millions of dolar (9 million is the estimated for Rio's) and they are still remembered as one of the best of all times... What do you thin about.... What do you expect, then, after this announcement???? Are Olympic ceremonies taeking a new road, after the over spent of Sochi or Beijing?.... Are, then, the regional Games (Pan Am Games, European Games, Asian Games) ceremonies going to be even more anticipated than the Olympic ones themselves???
  10. I think the price is reasonable for the spectacle we watched. Not for having a main stage in a theater style it could cost cheaper.... Spaces have nothing to do with prices but the show itself, and it was quite cool!!!!!
  11. I am sorry to say that te Pan Am coverage in Chile is only concentrated in one TV channel which only give some highlights twice a day... Just on Saturday was full of coverage, and anything else... I can not enjoy the Pan Am by different channels on the Internet as I did in 2011.... Sadly!!!!! I have not watched almost anything... ANNOYING!!!!!! :( :(
  12. Brazil has culture enough to create by their own ceremonies and any kind of show... just remember there are many samba schools.... Despite I think they won't create "carnival style" ceremonies, the samba schools can perfect work on them.... as they did on 2007 Pan Am ceremonies which were truly spectacular...
  13. Yeah!!!! First gold to Chile... Barbara Riveros in Triathlon
  14. I really loved the ceremonies.... It was quite different of what we have seen so far ... But excelent.. and most of all elegant!!!!! fine, artistic... I can say it is a rule-breaking ceremony!!!! Love it!!! Unforgetable night!!!! :) :)
  15. Chilean TV showed a sneak peak of the Opening Ceremony (just some seconds) Here some screen captures of it
  16. Is that only the espace to be used for the ceremonies???? I don't like that... it's too small.... it seems a theater intead a stadium field..... I have a feeling we will suffer a major dissapointment tomorrow!!!!
  17. Yes, because this is a forum... if you don't want counter-argument, write a letter and save it on your computer... :P :P
  18. Yea, maybe... Sme of the K pop are not only caychy but a little weird for those who love (as me) the classical pop music (reffering 70 80 and 90's anglo and latin pop) Ikarus, tú que hablas español.... en la primera canción del video .... no te suena a una parte como si dijera "sigan al gatito... júrame un gatito..." ???? jajajajaja.....
  19. Are you serious???? It was good, indeed... but not the most fabulous one.... Indeed Atlanta was the American version of Barcelona ceremony...
  20. Guys... after seeing this video twice... I can not believe that the first song of this video is extremely catchy for me!!!!!! OMG!!!!! I heard it on my mind for a long time...   :o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJ2ZQV0zH9s
  21. By the way.... I find kind of fool carrying a batton with a message within running over places as it were the flame.... Commonwealth batton, I reffer to, of course.... The emotion is in the flame itself and its meaning... But the batton.... mmmmm ... nobody even see where the message is....
  22. Wow!!! After seeing te video, I have to accept it got me intrigued.... Certainly, we are going to see something different of what we have seen so far in Opening shows...
  23. They may reffer to 600 volunteers... te rest of the people may be the Cirque du Soleil cast... anyway, it won't be a massive display as we watched in Baku...
