I waited 5 years only for this massive dissapointment. It actually made me feel depressed. Here's hoping Paris 2024 learned from this mess. I think COVID was an excuse for a couple of things, but it doesn't justify the disjointed, uninspired show from tonight, specially from a country which loves to presume of being innovative and tech savvy. Japan seems to be cursed to always do crappy sport ceremonies.

I think that if we have a round of successful, financially stable games in 2024/2026 to show contrast to what we've seen up to today, there will be a boost of confidence in bidding. It all still depends on how the Asian Trio handle the next eight years...

I think Sochi just highlighted what many of us ignored. That the Olympics are extremely expensive and an unnecessary expense. I'm not going to say that the world is changing and we are facing bigger problems then we did during the cold war etc but following Sochi nations and it's citizens are saying "do we want to spend $15 billion on a 2 week event or do we care about healthcare and the important issues facing the world.

Ikarus, ALL Saudi kings are descendants of Ibn Saud including the new one. They have to be by law. No-one outside the family can succeed to the throne.

Well, the mascot got a better reception than Fuleco for what I heard. But i can't help to think their style pretty much reflects what kids like today (Adventure Time for example)

The political situation in Mexico is so screwed up the Central American and Caribbean Games opening seats were bought by government employes in order to avoid boos (in fact Peña Nieto won't even attend).
