  1. This has to be the most anonymous Look since... the invention of Looks. The decorations at the venues look shockingly generic.
  2. It's not too bad. There's a nice balance here: the snowflakes bring interest in tight, close shots and the big hangul characters break things up enough in wider shots. Could use with a little more texture and color combos, but it's a solid Look.
  3. Maybe that's the point? Vibrancy created by lack of consistency in color. There definitely seems to be less branding at Rio's venues. Is the border around the velodrome track just going to remain plain orange?
  4. The bidding process has always generally bored my face off. It's the sexy and dramatic hostings that have kept me interested. But that's me.
  5. This is quite easily the best World Cup I've ever seen. Incredibly excited for Rio 2016 now and I'm confident Brazil will be able to pull it off wonderfully, if only with some bumps and bruises before and during.
  6. I feel like local people everywhere never like ****. Logos, stadiums, entire Olympics.
  7. So this isn't going to be a "glossy bid phase rendering, more practical stadium built later" situation ala London? This design would actually get built in Tokyo?
  8. Is Havelange being renovated for the Games? If it is, do we have finalized plans and renders available? We can start to guess where a possible second cauldron there could be placed...
  9. Watching The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations - how fabulous!

  10. I think to the IOC, Canada is Canada no matter what providence is bidding. BC and Ontario =/= South Korea and Japan.
  11. Ding ding dinggg.I've always said it, if the those five rings are in the background somewhere, people will be more inclined to watch whatever sport is on their television. And not at all surprised that NBC will air the YOG's on Universal Sports. I mean, that's where they aired the last two Paralympics and where they cover all the Olympic sports that no one cares about outside the Games. Good fit for the YOG's to catch an audience.
  12. I don't think there was anything particularly interesting about Whistler to look at, but Vancouver's another story. The shots of the harbor with the flame in the foreground, Olympic rings in the distance, and the mountains in the background were really memorable. The city itself is really telegenic anyway.
  13. The Olympic Movement in general has that lofty goal of inspiring people to take up sport. The Games themselves, whether regular or Youth, is the thing for people to look up to, to idealize, the spark that inspires. London 2012 has a number of initiatives to engage people to take up sport. These programs and aspect of the Games are not really talked about around here. I think the Youth Olympic Games will just have a stronger focus in this department within whatever region they're being hosted in.
  14. Most average people don't really care that much about a cauldron's design unless its extremely, extremely bad which is not the case judging from the crowds of people who wanted to take a picture of it during the Games.
  15. Yes, in the realm of Olympic design, Vancouver has a monopoly on wavy lines. So wavy lines are off-limits to anyone but Vancouver. Anyway, this design isn't horrible. But what I don't like is the constant use of that same figure to represent "youth" in general. It's soooo tried.
  16. And my city's rejection inspired me to follow the Games more and join this forum!
  17. See, it's stuff like that makes me hesitant to want anyone else to broadcast the Games in the US. They do awesome stuff like that all the time. I was hoping for a London preview but oh well.
  18. By far the most festive Games since Sydney. Vancouver edges out Salt Lake for me by a bit.
  19. Canada wore Vancouver 2010 scarfs at Torino's CC.
  20. How do you know? The world isn't out to get us you know.
  21. Who cares? Jesus. No one country officialy "wins" the Games anyway. They should do a point system (1 for bronze, 2 for silver, 3 for gold) to prevent such endless, unimportant debates at the end of every Games.
  22. NBC's coverage has started. The cauldron is there unlit with only 3 legs.
  23. I have a paper to write for class tomorrow. Not sure if I'll be able to log on here. :/
  24. The commercials for these are so epic.
