  1. What If I was in charge of the 10 min Handover Segment:

Alessandra Ambrósio enters the stadium carrying the Flag of Brazil:

Execution of the Brazilian National Anthem with fireworks at the end (a little camera close at Dilma Rousseff):

While the anthem is been executed, an impressive landscape of Rio is build up in the center of the stadium, like a large scale model, and the Copacabana pavement covers the track & field area (thanks Ikarus). After the anthem and the fireworks, the lights go down and this music starts to play:

Both singers appear at the top of the Sugarloaf mountain (he playing piano, she laying on it with a glamorous white dress), and the whole stage is lit with yellow and white (the crowd would hold lights creating the atmosphere of the night sky). Like on "Fantasia 2000", wave-shaped screens would fly on the Stadium showing pictures of Rio and Brazil while the song is been played:

After that, the extravaganza begins with some samba/pop with lots and lots of dancers, which would go something like this:

Several dancers flying the stadium by cables. However, instead of Jamie Foxx and Will.i.am singing "Hot Wings", Vanessa da Mata could emerge in the landscape singing this song:

The whole stadium is lit with an amazing color show and fireworks, with the dancers and stuff that I said. Perhaps, several Brazilian celebrities could appear dancing in this huge party. Then, Vanessa da Mata climbs the Corcovado Mountain and open her arms as Christ the Redeemer, there is a great firework finale and everyone appears cheering.

    THE END.

  2. You are right, thanx. However, the most important question I think ODEPA has to solve is which kind of standard they want the Pan Am Games delivered in. Editions like San Domingos of Rio? This question must be analized because, if they choose Rio's standard - and, for sure, Toronto's as well - that will be very difficult to pick up a CA city, at the least by now.

What we know is that the 2019 Pan American Games will be held in South America.

  3. Would be great. But if we look at the australian gap, which I believe was the shortest one outside of US, we had 44 years between Melbourne (1956) and Sydney (2000). So would been more realistic have the SOG in São Paulo by 2060, or, let's say, at least 2052.

Well... São Paulo 2035 and São Paulo 2044! 2031 for Peru...

  4. 3 North American Pan American Games in a row is not going to happen. The next possibility for the USA would be 2027 after Central and South America can host again.

    Agreed.

But I am concerned about Central America. PASO needs to avoid another Santo Domingo fiasco.

What Central American city is capable to host Olympic-level Games like Rio de Janeiro and Toronto?

I don't know... Maybe Panama City...

  5. Yup. Santiago gave up hosting rights to Buenos Aires in 2006. And bidding is not only about economy or stability or charming cities as we all know. Chile can show itself a little more in the sports scene hosting summer and winter sports championships and become a hot spot of the American South Pacific.

The 2006 South American Games were originally awarded to La Paz, Bolivia, but this decision was retracted following domestic instability in Bolivia during 2005. After that, ODESUR awarded the games to Argentina.

  6. Santiago will be good but let's first wait and see if they'll actually stage a multisports event (2014 South American Games). I believe their withdrawals after being awarded the 1975 and 1987 PanAms and the recent 2006 South American Games will make some people hesitate on electing the chilean capital.

    2006 South American Games?

I think Chile is the second most prosperous economy in South America (after Brazil) in this decade. Chile is stable and it is developing fast. I am sure that they are capable to host the Pan Ams.

  7. Sure, 2019 will be the south american war for the PanAms... But we can also have a surprise coming from Central-Caribbean zone... Don't forget, they miss 2015 (informally their spot)...

See you in Toronto. No doubts, it will be the best PanAms ever.

They will take the tittle of "best ever" from Rio de Janeiro... :(

Well, we take that tittle from Winnipeg. :P
