India it to probe into allegations of corruption and mismanagement at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Investigators will be looking at the awarding of contracts and how the work was supervised. Former Auditor-General VK Shunglu is to look at all aspects of the event's organisation and planning. The Games were initially beset by construction delays and complaints about the athletes' accommodation, but were later hailed as a success. After the troubled start, Commonwealth Games head Mike Fennell praised the event as competition drew to a close. Despite that praise, India's prime minister said an investigation was needed into an event which became a global story for the wrong reasons. "The government has decided to constitute a high-level committee under... VK Shunglu to look into all matters relating to organising and conduct of the Commonwealth Games 2010," said a spokesman for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Investigators are due to visit the Games' organising committee on Monday to audit its accounts. With just days before the Games opened, workers were racing to finish the athletes' village. Some teams initially held back their athletes after reports emerged of dirty bathrooms and exposed wiring and flooding.

Yeah I agree Baron, There's nothing more stereotypical about London than a red double decker bus. Plus people love Scotland and visit there because of things like tartan and highland dancing etc, if it brings in tourism, money and you can easily recognise where you are then why not. Kids break dancing in illuminous coloured hoodies etc is not what people think about when they think of Scotland and that sorta thing could represent anywhere in the world. The handover might not have been perfect but at least you knew where the games will be in 4 years

Glasgow takes Commonwealth Games mantle More than 300 Scots will perform at the handover ceremony in Delhi The mantle of Commonwealth Games host will be officially handed to Glasgow at the closing ceremony of the 2010 Delhi Games in India later. The city will be given the official Commonwealth Games flag, which signals the countdown to the 2014 event. A cast of 352 volunteers from across Scotland are in Delhi to showcase the country and city during the handover. They will put on a show featuring pipers, tartan displays and inflatables of famous Glasgow landmarks. The flag of the Commonwealth Games Federation will be handed to the Lord Provost of Glasgow, Bob Winter, at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. 'Highland charge' A short video - featuring locations around Scotland and Glasgow - will then be shown on the stadium's screens. When this ends, a spotlight will shine on a lone piper who will be the target of a "Highland charge" of 352 performers. The cast will then unfurl huge cloths which will interchange to create various tartans. Giant inflatables will be used to recreate Glasgow's Clyde Arc bridge, the "Armadillo" or Clyde Auditorium, and the Loch Ness Monster. Back in Glasgow, an invited audience of 700 guests will celebrate the occasion at the Old Fruitmarket, where entertainment will be led by artists from Scotland and India. Some of the Scotland's sporting stars from the Delhi Games will also attend.

Is this the start of an outbreak? The athletes village would be the perfect place for such bacteria to grow

Has anyone else noticed that the Delhi logo is not seen at the venues?

I know what you mean Matt, although i watched the ceremony again on SKY 5 yesterday as it was repeated and the sound was fine, they must have realised and fixed it on the recordin. I also think part of the problem was that the field was just too big, even though there was thousands of performers it looked very scattered. Glasgow will be more intimate as the field will be smaller

Watched squash today, another one to add to the list of no spectators. I know its only the first round of things but come on, it looks ridiculous. does anyone know the swimming filled for the finals?

As rehearsals continue apace for the Handover Ceremony, Glasgow 2014 has revealed the centrepiece to the performance – a 17m high and 30.5m long inflatable replica of the Clyde Auditorium, affectionately known as the "armadillo". The replica "Armadillo" is made out of 4,500 square metres of high tenacity nylon fabric and will be inflated and managed by 16 cast members using powerful backpack "leaf blowers" with ultra high air throughput. Three of those cast members' usual job is working for Glasgow City Council to clear the city's parks of leaves. The inflatable was designed using the building's architectural drawings and then modelled in 3D where it underwent rigorous testing for wind resilience. “Creating an inflatable Armadillo has afforded us a lot of creative licence in how it is used in the performance, and particularly how it leaves the Stadium – but you’ll have to wait till the 14th October to find out more!”
