  1. It appears that the main issue is the Qatar bid buying its hosting, so 2018 should not be rerun, Russia was a hot favourite and in terms of Europe, it has not hosted a major football tournament. 2022 could be ru-run but like puppy i think that there would be alot of fuss and outrage by doing this I might cause a bit of controversy here but i am starting to think that Sepp Blatter, might have not known too much about all of this, i think that Bin Hamman and Jack Warner may have worked behind the presidents back, even to the extent to make the 2018/2022 turn out badly so that he would not be re-elected and Bin Hamman could take over.
  2. Canada, England, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales CGAs visit Glasgow Canada and New Zealand give Glasgow the thumbs-up after visiting the Host City in preperation for 2014 Commonwealth Games Associations from Canada, England, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales were in Glasgow this week to see how the city is preparing for the 2014 Games and were “hugely impressed” with the progress Glasgow has made. The Commonwealth Games Associations, who are responsible for ensuring the best possible representation from their country at the Games and the well-being of their athletes during competition, met key members from the Organising Committee during the three-day visit and attended a number of key briefing sessions. They also had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the city, and went to see the Games Village and the various venue sites across Glasgow that will host the 11 days of sporting competition in three years time. Representatives from across the Commonwealth will continue to visit Glasgow in the build up to 2014 and early impressions indicate that Glasgow is on track and is in fantastic shape to deliver a “truly memorable” Commonwealth Games. Jake Wilkins, New Zealand’s Team Services Director said: “I was hugely impressed with Glasgow 2014’s desire and commitment to re-define what it means to deliver a truly athlete centred Games, and there is a real opportunity for this aim to be realised in 2014. “These visits are crucial, it allows us to meet the team behind Glasgow 2014 and also gives us an insight of what to expect during the Games.” Don Parker, England’s Sports Director said: “Glasgow is a fantastic city and really is on track to deliver a truly memorable Games. The city can only benefit from hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2014; there is a compact feel about the location of the venues that we saw, relative to the Games Village – a crucial factor in allowing the Commonwealth’s best athletes to compete at the highest level.” Scott Stevenson, Canada’s Acting Chief Executive Officer said: “There is a clear consistency throughout the Organising Committee in the vision and approach towards 2014. The enthusiasm from everyone over the three days was exceptional and there is real blend of experience and creativity behind everything Glasgow 2014 is doing.” Jon Doig, Scotland’s Chief Executive said: “The ability for all CGA’s to input directly into planning will have a direct outcome in ensuring a great Games for the athletes, the city and Scotland. Chris Jenkins, Wales’ Chief Executive said: “There was a real openness from everyone we met at Glasgow 2014 and I was impressed by how far down the line Glasgow is already and in particular the venues already being developed like the Velodrome

  7. Scottish Commonwealth Games medal winners are to be given money to help them when they retire from sport. A total of 28 medallists will receive a share of a fund worth nearly £200,000 to recognise their efforts and help prepare for life after sport. Gold, silver and bronze medallists at the 2010 Delhi Games will get £10,000, £5,000 and £2,500 respectively. The money will be invested on their behalf. The athlete will be given the capital and interest when they retire. It is hoped a similar scheme will operate for those taking part in Glasgow 2014. 'Real step forward'Commonwealth Games Scotland chairman, Michael Cavanagh, said: "It is recognised that while many athletes receive some contributions towards their sporting costs whilst competing, through the Lottery and other support mechanisms, most put their non-sporting lives on hold and can struggle to re-establish their career after they retire. "These funds are targeted to invest in pensions or to assist in establishing their post-sporting life following retirement from top-flight competition. "We believe this is a real step forward and something we are keen to continue for the foreseeable future. "We also see this as a tangible benefit for athletes, resulting at least in part from Scotland being the next Games hosts and CGS receiving monies from the required buy-out of our marketing rights by the organising committee." Financial securityFormer swimmer and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Andy Hunter said: "Whilst Lottery and other athlete funding has been a great support during my swimming career, this is a great way of helping athletes prepare for the future. "As someone who has just retired from their sport and is starting out on a new career path, this funding will be invaluable in helping me bridge the gap between my old life and my future direction." Boxing bronze medallist Stephen Simmons, who has recently joined the professional ranks, will also qualify. He said: "It is great to see the athletes being recognised in this way and I would like to thank Commonwealth Games Scotland for introducing this new scheme. "Turning pro is a great opportunity for me, but is still no guarantee of financial security, and this award will help me through this important transition period."

The nationalist government will pay. Wales and Northern Ireland already do this. Only England charge and they have increased the price.

  20. Fifa president Sepp Blatter has given the strongest indication yet that the 2022 Qatar World Cup will be held in the summer, not the winter. Blatter previously stated he expected the finals to be staged in January because of the country's climate. The tournament traditionally takes place in June and July but temperatures in Qatar in those months can top 40C. Blatter told the BBC: "I think for the time being the matter is on ice. Everything is settled for summer." In January, Blatter said that the successful Qatari bid was based on a summer World Cup but the Fifa executive committee was entitled to change any element of it, adding that players had to be protected from extreme weather conditions. But Blatter told BBC Sport's Brian Alexander: "Who said first that we should play in winter? It was Franz Beckenbauer, second Michel Platini and the world footballers' union (Fifpro). "I am not in favour of one or the other. What I did say, winter is not only January or February. I think for the time being the matter is on ice." He explained that a delegation from Qatar had visited Fifa headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, and indicated that the World Cup would be played in the summer months. "Everything is settled now for summer and all the 64 matches will be played in the territory of Qatar," said Blatter. He added: "In the bidding documents it was clearly established that the executive committee reserved the right to change anything in the bidding process, but here in this case it must come from Qatar." Qatar beat Australia, Japan, South Korea and the United States to host the tournament in the vote held by Fifa's executive committee on 2 December 2010 in Zurich.
