  1. so lets think about this. you are awarding as a voter on what you believe will happen 7 years from now and that things will be fine !!! This global financial crisis could have happened prior to Melbourne 2006 with what has happened in the New Millennium. People will talk of Montreal 1976 as the poster child of sports festivals gone bad , no one ever mentions some of the economic dynamics at play during the run up to those games. OPEC created and placing an oil embargo leaving the western economies hostage with huge increases in Gasoline and fuel prices. No one saw that in the fix with a 1970 vote for Montreal. When do you have the games come to the Largest Population base in the Commonwealth ? should it be the case like the Olympics that Beijing that it indeed is 112 years into the movement or 2042 ? Remember this is also in a much small pool of countries to host and it is very ironic that Australia has hosted 4 times never having to win an international bid vote for the games. Would 1962 been a good time for New Delhi? The 1962 vote was an Australian exclusive contest which Adelaide won , then the federation delayed the final judgment because they got signals that an India city was interested. That did not materialise and the Bid vote was overturned in favor of Perth hosting. The commonwealth games will not be around in 2042 !!! you have a list now of places unlikely to re appeal . Canada, New Zealand, Jamaica, Malaysia, Scotland, Wales, England you will probably never see stage the games again . Might as well let her rip in New Delhi and then host in Africa in 2018 because 175 million in revenues is not appealing with a 2 billion dollar plus cost including 100 million a day in operating expenses . This is the big reason the mouthing of Melbourne for a rescue is totally bogus. How about 1994 ? or 1990 when New Delhi applied and Failed? Then we have the cases of 1982 ,1986 , 2002 and 2006 where again Big four hosts were unopposed in their bid elections. Considering a great number of these bid elections are one man contests you would think at some point these games would not be classed a major event as you have Czar. At some point a country like India says 'look stop using our one billion people to pad your sales pitch to Microsoft and Coca Cola for sponsorship money' we want some of that action that you have been benefiting from off our population. 2. Basically Stroking the Two Mikes Egos LOL. Thing is again what got India the Games ? 100,000 dollars a Country for a Training grant over the $ 50.000 Hamilton was putting up. Jim jones
  3. Actually Suriname is not part of the British Commonwealth but they do indeed belong to Canoc . The Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees. The Body both Lima and Bogota stood up for the lobbying opportunity. Problem is for both those cities so very close to the Canoc meeting earlier this year is that appearing at the First Caribbean Games kind of sends a weird message. Toronto 2015 will be there as they have been for every chance to lobby . The Message from Lima and Bogota can be what ? We are inconsistent in Our Campaign so we will be inconsistent in both Venue Construction and Operations ? Jim jones
  4. Very common Method since Atlanta's successful bid for 1996. Sydney 2000 employed as well as Glasgow 2014 for the Commonwealth Games bid. This is were experience and hiring the expertise comes in play . Roltel is right that it is basically politics involved from the standpoint of Quid Pro Quo and trading. That is how governments work. Apple they would have had the RED, Yellow and Green light thing with the delegates for those headshots I would say. Dossiers are collected on the voters and usually people are assigned becoming their "friends" with great knowledge of a set number of delegates. REd Meaning don't waste the time the vote is another committees , Yellow meaning on the fence and should be a priority to work on and Green Meaning the vote is solid with our Bid . It could indeed be revise I can't remember ? They know the entire background of the delegates that they are assigned . Their Family members , how old they are, What colleges they attended . They know the Tastes and Interests of the voters. This is Where Toronto with Ms. Pike may indeed have a huge advantage tactically on the Ground in a Convention hall with her experience with the Commonwealth bid and they people she can draw on from for Toronto's failed Olympic Bids. I like what Former IOC VP Dick Pound happened to Muse to some of his friends in Regards to Bid Books . "they are the biggest pieces of Fiction published" . Basically a fairy tail is cast by bid committees and there is little of the change that bid committees promise for post games in regards to participation in Healthy Life Styles. Problem is Bran how can there be an objective judgment Really. Lima or Bogota can have as much negative or positive in regards to staging the Pan Am's as Toronto. All these elements can be different on both sides but how does one judge what is a better city to host ? Is it what type of wonderful Fiction they write and then can't deliver on? The lines are really getting fine between cities in the world as the Internet and Knowledge is shared across the planet for development of Cities infrastructure. Personally if it was not Toronto I don't think Lima Peru would be a bad choice. Peru has never hosted . Colombia has hosted once and Bogota is 2400 metres above sea level putting stress on the athletes in mid season for a Games that has junior teams attend mostly . The biggest problem for the two South American Cities is that they will perhaps be unfairly judged on Rio 2007 for some problem that few would know. I know of a Paso voter who voted for San Antonio for 2007 and regretted that his friends in the Caribbean voted for RIO 2007 when he was at the games. The complaints about the size of the Beds and Athletes Village along with Transportation Issues where things he had to deal with in regards to his athletes. Rio it seems has to learn from those things. Whether they have for the 2016 remains to be seen. Jim jones
  5. OH my Gloria Estefan for the Olympics ? funny thing is I have known her lighting designer since 1990 and he has worked with a Real Diva first name Diana and he said to me that Gloria is far from a Diva LOL. Celine Dion well hey what could we say. Jim jones
  6. Could it have something to do with Spanish media not being picked up by Google or other search engines ? I think it would not be a problem with search results but who knows ? Jim Jones
  7. I think they are the right people to run the Bid. Jagoda Pike certainly has had enough contacts and Experience with the failed Hamilton 2010 and the Caribbean/Americas British Commonwealth Nations. If you don't win those Nations votes you don't host pretty Simple. The Canoc Meeting the Other two Candidate Cities missed Also involved Belize, Guyana and Suriname. You can't be standing up all those Caribbean Nations a mere 3 hour direct flight away from your candidate city of Bogota and a Few hours more from Lima. Both Belize and Guyana would be familiar with Jagoda Pike as well. Thing is Canada put a great deal into the development of Sports in the Caribbean and the ties are strong. I think Vote splitting between the Spanish speaking nations may be over played. There is the real possibility that Toronto 2015 has made in roads into the home turf of Lima and Bogota. An Interesting article that the Toronto Sun had . An Unnamed Veteran of Bid Lobbying for Toronto and Canada's Olympic bid said if he was involved he would ask the Caribbean Nations if they wanted their athletes competing at 2400 meters of elevation . Which is a Direct shot at Bogota. If you are not communicating the case then indeed Voters can believe you are complacent or think you have it wrapped up. If Jagoda Pike and the committee have good solid relations with many Caribbean Nations voters then that can carry over to other neighboring places . I think of the Central American countries and Mexico. It some ways coming to Toronto fits in a rotation pattern not declared. Now if Chicago wins over Rio for 2016 before the Pan Am Games Vote I think the whole ballgame could go to a south american city simply because it may be a bitter pill for the Spanish speaking Nations to swallow. The pressure would certainly be on the Caribbeans to grant South America the games for 2015 with a loss to Chicago jim jones
  8. Well at least I don't propose knocking down a multi million dollar Stadium in your town to Stage the All-african games Athletics Competition . I actually know what the dimensions needed to host that main event of a sports festival unlike you who think he knows . Jim jones
  9. 20 to 30 foot long continuous pieces of "Plexi" can be gotten and hung with not much difficulty. In fact it comes in giant rolls . I have used it for Back lite signs. The problem is how rigid or flexible do you want it. with the right rigging it can be raised and lowered . What would be easier to use is Scrim Cloth with is very common for theatres. Scrim Cloth was used for the Olympic Rings coming off the floor of the Birds Nest with a Fibre Optic light curtain woven in Jim Jones
  10. I am Actually waiting for Mo's minions to reveal the fact that Bogota Colombia has the Highest crime rate in the World including their homicide rate. Yeah that would be in character As too and olympic bid well Toronto has tried twice and Jacques Rogge is now phrasing Toronto as a place that could have a strong bid. Lets Face it he is probably right on that account but realistically a summer games is at least 25 to 30 year off for Canada. Building an Athletics Stadium with the Hope of staging the Olympics in Toronto is not realistic at this point Jim Jones
  11. Gee Mo may they should have you on the Committee and you could advise them to put an athletics Surface in BMO Stadium of the SKydome ? LOL Jim jones
  12. I agree it is a huge weakness really . The only solution I can see for Hamilton to be involved is if they day camped or even made McMaster University in Hamilton a Second Athletes Village which is very possible considering the modern Sports facilities they have on Campus. The Thing is Both Bogota and Lima are not showing up to Lobby and perhaps this emboldens the Bid Committee for Toronto 2015 ? Toronto GTA's situation with Finances probably would not garner much for an Athletics stadium as they certainly have a good inventory of Stadiums and Arenas Now . With Hamilton you have a CFL team that would move in to a new stadium after the games with Toronto it would be a white Elephant with no real tenant . Hamilton does not have the drawing power for PASO votes and Toronto with the Drawing power for Name ID doesn't really need the games to build a stadium that would sit empty. It is a case of Two Boats tied together in a Canal Lock thus floating better. Jim jones
  13. Well Alex that exactly was what the General basically said in 2007 not wanting to offend or throw India a curve ball. He Basically said they would use the full seven years to carry the capital construction phase in Abuja though their position is much much better with a greenfield city then most cities in the World for hosting any sports festival. I don't think the CWG Federation would take the games away from New Delhi unless you had huge social problems IE a civil war. What would taking the games away signal to the rest of the Commonwealth? jim jones
  14. So why not sensibly say what has to done minimum to stage the games? What are the Required pieces of the Games and who has them without Major Modifications ? In other words does the venue have the footprint can could be resurfaced in a rapid time. A Rescue City has to have a IAAF Class One Stadium with 40000 seats minimum as the most major item on the list. Who has this in the Commonwealth ready today ? Johannesburg, Abuja, Kuala Lumpur, Brisbane most likely, Edmonton and Dar el Saleem , Columbo , Kingston. You start from the most capital intensive Venue the Main stadium and then go down the list to who has the most. Then you look to College Dorms and who has them. and Then you look to Transportation and who has the best. Then you ask politely the possible rescue nations. This is Generally that way Bids should be judged because citizens paying for sports festivals at some point will say enough is indeed enough like we are seeing in New Zealand with the 2018 commonwealth games bid. Venue Wise that would probably be the first city to stage the games on the present scale Kuala Lumpur BUT hey someone could be in danger of getting a Monkey Bite there so we dismiss that possibility. While we are at it any place with Monkeys running free can't host the Commonwealth Games. The Queen's corgis' don't like Monkeys I forgot. The Reason is very simple why Melbourne would not do this . They indeed don't have the first item Labeled A since April of 2006. Glasgow, Manchester , London or Sheffield doesn't this most major of pieces . Melbourne certainly doesn't have a spare billion around to save the commonwealth games with the brush fire disaster the state of Victoria just had. Then the consideration will always be Who will then pay the operating costs which in Melbourne's case was about 100 million AU dollars a day? The Games will indeed stay in New Delhi or be canceled simply because cities host prior know the costs and that the CWGs dont make 10 percent of the outlay in some cases and never will. You would see a New Delhi games with much to be desired with the end product if they don't complete things or you will indeed see no games at all. Yeah The Expert's "sources' In Melbourne What a joke considering the words of Mike Hooper, Austin Sealy , Perry Crosswhite and Justin Madden all whom are part and parcel of the Melbourne 2006 games saying the story is not true. Hey buddy keep pressing that IGNORANCE button Because Ignorance has indeed keep you in Suspended Animated Bliss for a couple of years. Jim Jones
  15. And why do I have to answer Anything After All I am a Mental Retard according to the guy that can't make the clear connection that you cannot run Athletics in Green Point stadium without dismantling it in a very major way. Oh gee we just put scaffolding up to make the IAAF 180 metre long surface in a Stadium that does not occupy that type of length . What will that mean The Athletics track will be across the roof of the Greenpoint Stadium ? This is the so called authority who hasn't a clue in regards to the Length of an International Event Velodrome these days either. I have never called Mo anything but his thoughts really are of someone very mentally challenged LOL. You know what the inside of that arena in New Delhi looks like to me ? The inside of a typical World Cup 2010 stadium still under construction or the Arena Attached to the Maracana Stadium mere months before the Games. Jim jones
  16. Actually there is not much of a conversion this time for GM Place to host the Canucks after the games. The Calgary Saddledome was built to have the International Ice Hockey Surface while GM place was to get a 30 million dollar conversion for be able to switch from the Smaller NHL Surface to the Larger International surface for the Olympics. The Stephen Harper Conservative government did not bow to the demand for 55 million right away as part of the cost overruns for Olympic construction. Cost overruns in Vanoc's budget that included 30 million for the GM place Ice Surface conversion to have the international size. Vanoc along with Minister for the Olympics at the Time David Emerson were forced to ask for a dispensation of the IIHF surface requirements and they were granted it. The case was successfully made that all the Olympic tournament's players make their livings in NHL sized Rinks and all have probably played in GM Place at points of their career if not many times depending on which NHL division they play in. GM place would have a different games overlay look but the Ice surface could be painted back to the Vancouver Canucks scheme in a very short time. Contray to what would be thought ice in an Arena is not white when the water is frozen as you can see the concrete underneath. Ice is painted white first and then the lines , faceoff circles and logos are painted on with templates . Basically the Canucks could step onto the ice the next day and it would be the same surface but with the olympic logos. You might be looking at an over night job to remark the ice for the Canucks and certainly not more then a day or two at the most or within the Olympic Break for the NHL. It is not like Calgary where they would have to move the boards in and retract the seating forward. The remounting of the Boards would be the most time consuming . Most Arenas with both Basketball and Ice Hockey only take down the Glass for basketball games in regards to what is done for that conversion with the boards in mid winter. As to Sochi 2014 it is very much in doubt whether the NHL is going to allow players to play in the Olympic tournament in 2014. This is probably why the dispensation was Granted for GM place with regards to the Olympics by the IIHF. The IIHF does not demand a great deal from Canada in regards to hosting their events. The World Senior Men Tournament was held in Quebec City and Halifax on NHL sized surfaces. many of the Junior tournaments are held on NHL sized rinks when they come to Canada. Canada is the largest tv rights payer for the IIHF and certainly the most prosperous place for Tournament gate for the IIHF. Without the NHL the Winter Olympics tournament will be a junior team event much like Olympic soccer would probably be U17 fifa. With the NHL out it would actually be much worse because Fifa and the Olympics you have all U23 players able to compete and three players over 23 years of age . The NHL / Olympic teams are the best not matter the age so you have every possible NHL superstar. jim jones
  17. That is actually a good idea but also they is a way to burn the flame inside without problems. The Flame could indeed have a large range hood type deal with the medal having a recirculating pump pouring water over the outside of the hood. Exhaust could be vented and a misting curtain of water could surround the Flame . It has been done before in regards to the univerisal studios ride for the movie Backdraft. People are in a Hall much smaller then BC Place with Fireballs and a Curtain of Fire not far away from them. They are protected by a high tech HVAC system and a mist curtain of water between them and the open flames. Also holography could be done on cylinder of water with a video feed in real time of the Flame outside. The Olympic Flame burning inside a building is not a hard problem to solve as the solutions are there and the money is as well. The video footage of quebec is very cool I take it the surface is the Grain Terminal on the waterfront . Jim jones
  18. Well hey just rubbing it in that GLAsgow is just such a far superior place to host the Commonwealth Games . It is the very center of getting construction projects done , on time , on budget and Working properly . Just like the Bridge that had to be reduced to Two lanes from four and the Footbridges never completed over the Freeways for 3 decades or now the Tram in Edinburgh. And YES JEREMIE the Glasgow 2014 committee makes those claims that they have 70 percent of the facilities and hence will not run into the problems of a London 2012 with cost overruns. They bandied that about for much of the bid campaign . In Glasgow you have a Cancellation of the Triathlon they were to hold at the very venue they propose, you have delays in going forward with construction and general back pedaling from what was advised . Gee How the Hell would England ever think they were going to take on the World Cup honestly. No Jeremie this is just like the debate with Rio 2016 which the underlining theme is ' how can these people in the developing world actually have these things , I saw for myself naked bare breasted women running around jungles of Brazil and Africa on the National Geographic Show last night' . Not a mention is made that Kuala Lumpur is actually more able to host on an emergency of New Delhi not being able to host. I would not for a moment in have my contacts in Abuja Jump at filling in at this late date. That question was actually asked at the evaluation committee press conference in June 2007 and General Gowon himself answered in regards to Abuja stepping in for New Delhi 2010. I was there . Stepping in is really difficult for the Olympics , Commonwealth Games or anything but it can be done with a very very big set of compromises . I talk of the possibility in the worst case of a dozen cities for the Olympics. The Worse Case is not having anything to do with Finances, Venue and Infrastructure completion or any of the things we are talking about on these pages . The Worst Case would be if a Earthquake Destroyed a City like Kobe Japan or you had a violent revolution and the host government threw back the games to the IOC. In most cases it would go to cancellation. Anything short of that Overlays will be compromised because what other options do they have ? Think about it. You can be stubborn and make the games impossible or you indeed find ways to stage them under difficult conditions . That is what happened with Athens to a small degree. Same thing will probably end up happening in New Delhi either Cancellation or things not completed. Jim jones
  19. Is that one of those famous Athletes Village Suites from Melbourne 2006 with not Air Conditioning LOL. JIm Jones
  20. Are your sources Perry Corsswhite and Former Minister of Sport Justin Madden ? Because is what they are saying . Sure your Ignore Button isn't spelled Ignorance instead MO. Jim Jones Commonwealth Games 'to proceed in Delhi' James Dampney February 18, 2009 Australian officials have laughed off suggestions Melbourne is on standby to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games amid concerns over India's preparations to stage the event. Reports suggest Delhi organisers are struggling with numerous issues ahead of the scheduled opening ceremony on October 3, involving venue construction, broadcasting, security and accommodation among other things. The possibility of Melbourne, host of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, stepping in again next year has been mooted with the event now just over 18 months away. But it was news to Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) chief executive Perry Crosswhite. "That's all very interesting because we've never been asked that or even had it indicated to us," Crosswhite told AAP on Wednesday. "I talked to (former Melbourne Commonwealth Games Minister) Justin Madden about it yesterday and he said it would be almost impossible for Melbourne to do it anyway. "The village is gone and everything else. "The only time you've had a Games move was the 1976 Winter Olympics when (Denver) couldn't hold them (over a funding issue) and Innsbruck held them again, but in those days the Olympics was probably a thousand athletes. "It just wouldn't happen unless there was a security issue, when they'd probably just be postponed rather than move them somewhere else. "I just chuckle at those things because it's just not going to happen." Crosswhite is remaining hopeful India's vast resources and huge population can make the event in Delhi a success. The global financial crisis and the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in November last year have impacted upon confidence in the country to stage a successful Games. India are also minnows when it comes to hosting international multi-sport events, the last time being when they held the Asian Games in 1982. But the ACGA is keeping the faith, believing Delhi just needs to ensure experienced heads are pulling the strings. "Absolutely there's concerns. But more of the concern is just putting people in place to manage and run the Games," Crosswhite said. "The venues and village and all that is just money and people and they've got plenty of people and probably plenty of money. "It's probably just a body of knowledge of how you manage the Games and those things (that's required). You either get people from overseas or you do a very fast training program or a combination of both. "That's the area the Commonwealth Games Federation is really encouraging the Indians to do. These events don't just happen." The ACGA was informed in November last year that venues were behind schedule, but it is hardly a unique issue. The same problem occurred during preparations for the Athens 2004 and Sydney 2000 Olympics, plus the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. The ACGA's latest information is most venues will be finished by December this year. Crosswhite also feels India is well-placed to deal with the current financial crisis. "There are concerns, but then again you've got a billion people and a huge economy in India, so if they couldn't absorb it I don't know who could," he said. Crosswhite will head to Delhi in April for an update on preparations.
  21. hey what about Glasgow after all they Claim what 70 percent of the venues surely Track Cycling could be held in Manchester LOL. Yeah 70 percent of the venues already there that is if you want to run athletics with 6 lanes and have no Long jump pit , no Warm up track , no throwing practice area. Those things don't become realities until 2013 like the Velodrome the Gymnastics Venue, the Squash Venue among other things. GEE it is really too Bad Abuja didn't have a 60000 seat IAAF Class one Stadium with a Throwing and Running practice areas , A Schuermann Indoor Velodrome and the other things Glasgow has . ROTFLMAO. I remember visiting Holograph projects of a 600000 seat stadium in Abuja two years ago . Jim Jones
  22. Edmonton more then Montreal . At least Edmonton does have the required Athletics Stadium that Is indeed IAAF Class One. They are also building a velodrome but i am not sure when it will be completed. Jim jones
  23. Hey mo they could always host it in Capetown at the Greenpoint Stadium after all OCtober 2nd comes after the 2010 world cup in south Africa and that scaffolding awaits LOL Jim jones
  24. Here is another one for You MO. From the Australian Paper "the AGE" Commonwealth Games 'to proceed in Delhi' James Dampney February 18, 2009 Australian officials have laughed off suggestions Melbourne is on standby to host the 2010 Commonwealth Games amid concerns over India's preparations to stage the event. So MO has Mike Fennell given you a call to straighten out things and convince the Australians that they can step into hosting 2010. Seems he has not called anyone but your "sources " . yeah Again you show you lack of understanding that Melbourne has done the Commonwealth games disposing of the Tartan Track about three years ago and also sold the athletes village. Jim jones
  25. Mo here is a better view of where Melbourne actually stands on this Leo Schlink February 20, 2009 12:00am A LEADING Indian newspaper has raised serious new fears over New Delhi's capacity to stage next year's Commonwealth Games. But Australian Commonwealth Games Association chief executive Perry Crosswhite has doused speculation Melbourne will be asked to stage the Games. The Hindustan Times claimed India was so far behind schedule it would take a "miracle" for New Delhi to host the Games. The claim emerged as Australian TV executives travelled to India to assess the situation. Channel 10 and Foxtel have sent teams to New Delhi to discuss their fears. Spokesman Bob Kemp said the broadcasters "clearly have some issues with some areas and that's why we're here for discussions". "We're taking the opportunity to meet various members from the organising committee across a whole range of issues from accommodation to technology, venue preparedness and security," he said. "We're a little more nervous about some things than we are about others." The Hindustan editorial was scathing. "What is actually needed for it to materialise without us embarrassing ourselves, is a miracle. And even more money. What we face is a race against time. The ambitious airport project is facing a cash crunch," the newspaper said. "Roads and fly-overs that were to be completed by 2008 have hit a dead-end. The venues are officially 40 per cent complete, but walk by them and all you can see is a mess. "Even before the global economic downturn happened, sponsors were wary. Now it's much worse." The Games will be held on October 3-14 next year, featuring about 8500 athletes from 71 nations. Crosswhite said it was highly unlikely Melbourne would be drafted in as a replacement venue after hosting the Games in 2006. "I talked to (former Melbourne Commonwealth Games Minister) Justin Madden about it yesterday and he said it would be almost impossible for Melbourne to do it anyway," Crosswhite said. "The (athletes') village is gone and everything else." So Mo who are your Sources that say Melbourne is on Stand By. Are they same people who say you can hold the 2011 All-african Games Athletics in a 2010 World cup Soccer Stadium at Greenpoint LOL. Jim jones
