  1. For me the torch should be carried by people the most of time/route and not by plane....
  2. I never liked this "hopping" from continent to continent - why does the torch had to be flown from Greece to China and back to Europe, North-America, South-America, Africa, Asia, Oceania and back to Asia and finally to China? I don't even see it as sign of harmony - it is just a little bit torch here - a little bit torch there and a little bit torch over there - it's just marketing...
  3. It is great that the countdown clock is unveiled in Vancouver for 2010, but why must the IOC-website emphasise the manufacturer of the clock in their headline? Everybody could see it "For money makes the world go around, the world go around, the world go around. Money makes the world go around, the clinking, clanking sound of Money, money, money, money, Money, money, money, money, Get a little, get a little, Money, money, money, money, Mark, a yen, a buck or a pound, That clinking, clanking clunking sound is all that makes the world go round, It makes the world go round."
  4. Due the Olympic Games next year Bejing tries to become more international with english translated signs - it seems that they have problems with that - a "Park of Nations" became "Racist Park" Dishes are very difficult to translate a "bullfrog in a clay pot" became a "**** a bullfrog" - I wonder how they came from a "clay pot" to a "****"? cigarettes are by the way translated with "smoke"
  5. I doubt that the "world-media" will give an account of this "murder-trial" the whole time - that was just for the set open of the trial... I suppose that it will be in the news again, when the verdict is published... It is strange there is already a site about him on Wikipedia, too...
  6. nothing, but it is interesting what happens at the moment in the hosting city of the next Winter Olympics...
  7. CBC - Pickton trial set open BBC - Canada pig farmer trial to begin ARD - Kanadisches Gericht verhandelt grausige Mordserie n-tv - Prozeß gegen Serienmörder I wonder what will be published from this murder trial...
  8. It is called "TRANSRAPID" in Germany Yes, that is true - the railway line between Hamburg and Berlin was really run-downed in the time of the German division (the line between Hamburg and Berlin was before the division the fastest line - there was even a special engine for it "The Flying Hamburger") - The Flying Hamburger After reunification it was thought about to build a Transrapid line between the two cities instead to rebuild the railway line - but they said that it would become to expensive (what I do not believe) and to unhandy to support another transport system. Siemens built the line in China - and I think that is a huge mistake...
  9. I have "just" used the ICE (Inter City Express) so far. It is the best way to travel from Hamburg to Berlin. It just takes 1 1/2 hour from central station to central station. By car it takes 2-3 hours (depends on the traffic on the autobahn). By the way the new central station in Berlin is really breathtaking I just imagine G. hurdling over the tracks and engines to reach the bed.... yes - I think it is Talgo...
  10. ... and maybe buy an engine or a model house, car etc.?
  11. well Brio is very famous in Germany, too it is really fun to play with it, because it is very easy to change the tracks and change everything - I PLAYED A LOT WITH IT WHEN I WAS YOUNG!! lol - yes of course I remember the name: Miniatur Wunderland This model railway layout is really fantastic - it is so detailed - the people are searching on the layout for special details: e.g. a speed trap (the camera flashes), the suicide at a bridge, sex in a sunflower field or the dead body in the small river - every of a quarter of a hour it becomes night - then there is a fire department in a city and a fire breaks out and you see the fire cars rush to the burning house - in the scandinavian part of it - the sea is with real water and ships are driven through the water without seeing any control. Now they are building an airport with planes departure and také off - and at the same time they are building the Alps over two floors... Here are some photos: the landmark of Hamburg on the layout a detail of a race on the Köhlbrandbrücke (Hamburg) a detail from the US-part in the layout a detail of the sea in the Scandinavian part ... sex in the sunflower field
  12. Is it possible to get an "ignore button" for members?
  13. ... by the way the thread with the live-chat is blocked - eusebius posted today something, but it isn´t able to be find...
  14. Dear GBMod, during our Final-live-chat - we really got problems with the board - we posted but our messages didn´t appear anymore - then suddenly some posts were double posted - what happened to the board? ... and like bigdave has already said - what will happen on the 6th July (we were just around 14 people in the live-chat)?
  15. Try www.amazon.de I actually bought a copy of it, in two parts, when I was in Germany earlier this year _ it seemed widely available. roltel is right - you can get it immediately: OLYMPIA I - Fest der Völker OLYMPIA II - Fest der Schönheit
  16. I remember a movie (sorry I don´t remember the title) in which two american students live together with a japanese girl in Tokyo during the Tokyo Olympics (they didn´t find an accomodation, because of the Olympics).
  17. I think it should stay in the off-topic until it is finished
  18. I'm not sure what you are asking, can you clarify? ... maybe you remember that we did a GB Eurovision Song Contest last year - but General Off-Topic Threads are not stored - we do a GB Eurovisin Song Contest again this year - and I have asked if it is possible that the thread could be stored this year?
  19. Is it able to file our GamesBids Eurovision Song Contest this year?
  20. Hello GBModerator, is it possible to reach "old thread" again? I think especially on our GB-contest about ESC and the chat-thread during the semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest of last year.
