  1. And its official! https://www.olympics.com/ioc/news/jpmorganchase-named-first-ever-global-banking-partner-of-the-olympic-games
  2. Venues were announced yesterday (https://www.eurosport.fr/basketball/basket-mondial-2031-la-defense-arena-pour-la-phase-finale-les-bleus-viseront-a-minima-le-dernier-carre_sto23293142/story.shtml): Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Lille OL Arena, Lyon Porte de La Chapelle Arena, Paris Bercy Arena, Paris Paris La Défense Arena ---------------------- Paris La Défense Arena and Stade Pierre-Mauroy are the fourth/fifth venues at a FIBA Basketball World Cup to have a capacity exceed 20,000. CO'Met Arena in Orléans was also considered, but rejected due to hotel specifications not meeting requirements.
  3. Noboby has reported this, but yesterday, FIBA awarded the 2031 World Cup to France! https://about.fiba.basketball/en/news/fiba-selects-japan-as-2030-womens-world-cup-host-france-as-host-of-2031-mens-world-cup There will be three host cities, with venues to be decided: Lille, Lyon and Paris.
  4. Makes you think how the 2032 Summer Olympics have managed to sign their first sponsor, while the 2030 Winter Olympics still don't have the power to do it yet!
  5. Weren't the conditions just as bad, if not, worse in 2014 for both Olympics and Paralympics? Doesn't help that a resort city was the host.

(skateboarding) ??? (3x3 wheelchair basketball) Temporary Notes: I do agree with your idea on protocols. I decided that the 4 venue ceremony concept would be far more logistically complex than I initially thought. I kept the ceremonies at only the Greater Bay Area Culture and Sports Center Stadium due to it and the complex being located in the geographical centre of the Greater Bay Area. I would also have the cauldron based here too for the same reason. The reason I chose Haixinsha Island to host sport climbing is because that venue has been severely underused after it was built for the 2010 Asian Games. It would also become the largest sport climbing venue in Olympic history, with a capacity of up to 35,000! The reason I chose the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre Stadium to host archery is because that venue has been severely underused after it was built for the 2011 Summer Universiade. Since then, from what I'm aware, it has only hosted concerts and the marathon start/finish of the 2025 National Games of China. Also, it's part of a smaller cluster of venues in the same part of Shenzhen (volleyball preliminaries/sitting volleyball and beach volleyball/blind football are held in venues in the same complex), as I wanted some sports and venues to be closer to one another to reduce the length of travel for athletes and spectators. I'm not sure if the Chinese public would be alright in having temporary venues within landmarks, as other recent sporting events in China don't really do this. The reason I have Hong Kong and Macau respectively host 8 Olympic/7 Paralympic and 4 Olympic/3 Paralympic sports instead of more is due to prevent overcrowding in these very densely populated regions. There isn't enough existing land to build new venues; the only options are on hilly or mountainous terrain (which would require deforestation and flattening of terrain) or using newly reclaimed land (which is very expensive to do). The rest of the existing venues in Hong Kong and Macau don't have sufficient capacities for the Olympics, and it may not be possible to expand them for the Games due to most venues being in built up areas, and becoming a burden on the general public that use the venues daily. Also, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center isn't big enough to host six sports; you could have had most of them held at the AsiaWorld–Expo, which is more than double the size, and therefore be able to host more sports. The Hong Kong Coliseum wouldn't be able to fit the entire gymnastics equipment due to the floor being square, not rectangular. I wouldn't have a single new sporting venue built, as China has a history of building venues that end up becoming white elephants afterwards. The only thing that would be built are the Olympic Villages, all of which would be converted to residential housing. Using only existing hotels (despite there being more than enough across the host regions) reduces options for spectators as well as those that are staying in hotels for reasons other than the Games, and would lead to security and logistical complexities.
  7. Cool, but I really wish the legal jargon WASN'T WRITTEN LIKE THIS ALL OF THE TIME.
  8. @Victorian said in the Milano-Cortina Closing Ceremony Live Chat that the IOC "should have not gone with the rushed French Alps bid anyway", especially judging by the poor state of the French Alps organizing committee. Before they won, the French Alps bid lacked financial commitment from national and regional governments, but the Stockholm bid had similar issues as well. But I'm guessing the IOC were just so excited about how the Paris 2024 Summer Games were shaping up, that they wanted them to host the 2030 Winter Games. Do you all think that the IOC made the wrong choice in pushing aside Stockholm and Switzerland?
  9. Who's even supplying those drones (because the previous provider, Intel, is no longer a TOP partner)?
  10. Why does the protocol for the ceremonies now require the Olympic rings to be formed?
  11. Not only is it very humid in the summer period, but it also means that the Games fall during monsoon and typhoon season, where for more than half of each of the three months, it rains a lot. That is why you see sporting events in the region held outside of this period. If they host, I think both Olympics and Paralympics are most likely to be held within in October, November and December.
  12. I about to vent on something very stupid, but I have problems with the organising committee obtaining sponsors. With multi-sport events in Japan, companies flock to sponsor, but for the 2026 Asian Games, there seems to be tepid interest. I emailed them (twice) in Japanese telling them that they need to try harder, and even suggested companies that they should target, and they probably didn't notice or care... In the partnership overview (https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/愛知・名古屋2026大会パートナーシッププログラム概要.pdf), there is a draft list of categories and industries they want covered. Below is this translated into English, with categories and sub-categories coloured to represent if they have been filled or not. Automobiles [Passenger cars [covered by Toyota] (including small mobility), auto parts, etc.] Land Transportation [Bus transport, rail transport [covered by Central Japan Railway Company], logistics (trucks), postal services, etc.] Air Transportation [Air transport, airport facilities, airport-related services [covered by Chubu Centrair International Airport], etc.] Maritime Transportation [Ocean shipping, etc.] Energy [Oil/gas development/retail, electricity [covered by Chubu Electric Power]/gas, temporary power sources [covered by Shanghai Yude Energy], etc]. Communications [Telecommunications line operators [covered by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone], mobile phone operators, wireless equipment (walkie-talkies and related services) [covered by NEC], etc.] Precision machinery [Broadcast/video equipment, PCs/tablets, LCD screens [small screens covered by Transtech LED], etc. ] Home appliances [AV equipment, household/white goods, air conditioners, etc]. Games [Game production, game-related equipment, etc.] Entertainment/entertainment/media [Newspapers [covered by Chunichi Shimbun], publishing/bookstores, etc.] Finance [Banks [covered by MUFG Bank], securities, insurance, payment systems, leasing, etc.] Beverages/food [Alcoholic beverages (low alcohol), confectionery, seasonings] Toiletries and cosmetics [Hair care, body care, cosmetics etc.] Textiles, chemicals, steel, non-ferrous metals, various materials [Pulp, paper, chemical fibers, glass, steel [covered by Daido Steel], etc]. With less than 250 days left until the Games start, less than half of these have been filled. When you take into account that some companies won't get in straight away (MoU, then Partnership Agreement months later), this means they have even less time! Because of this lack of interest and the organisers not having their requested categories filled, I fear that the Games may be a failure.
  13. The completion schedule was released yesterday. It is only avaliable entirely in Japanese, though. https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/0109競技スケジュール/アジア競技大会競技デイリースケジュール.pdf
  14. I came up with a venue prediction months ago, and I had the inspired idea, with the venues I selected, to have the venue map form a circle! France: Accor Arena, Paris [15,609] (2 first round groups, 1 second round group) LDLC Arena, Lyon [12,523] (1 first round group, 2 second round groups) Germany: Lanxess Arena, Cologne [19,500] (1 first round group, 1 second round group, final round) SAP Garden, Munich [11,500] (1 first round group, 1 second round group) Italy: Inalpi Arena, Turin [16,600] (1 first round group, 2 second round groups) PalaItalia, Milan [16,000] (2 first round groups, 1 second round group)
  15. Wait, you were the one that removed it? I just thanked you for it on Wikipedia!
