1. Istanbul 2027 European Games will be a springboard for Istanbul 2036 Olympics. ''One of the pillars of the discourse was sustainability understood from an operational point of view. The organisers stressed that the event (2027 European Games in Istanbul) will not entail the construction of new permanent facilities and that it will rely on existing infrastructure through intensive planning and coordination. This approach, they explained, will reduce environmental impact and redirect resources towards legacy projects centred on people, such as volunteering programmes, youth initiatives and the promotion of creative industries linked to sport and culture. Turnaoğlu framed this strategy within an even broader ambition by defining Istanbul 2027 as a large-scale test for the country's Olympic future. In his remarks, he noted that the European Games will serve as a governance and operations rehearsal ahead of a potential Olympic bid in 2036. "We aim to turn a two-week organisation into a capacity and identity that will last for decades," he said, underscoring the idea that the value of the event will be measured in the long term, as a legacy.'' https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1156195/istanbul-2027-show-sporting-ambition
2. Yeah, we should not comment about the topics we don't know. You obviously have no idea about the Turkish politics.
3. Istanbul will still host the 2027 European Games and the EURO 2032 opening or final game. And 2028 is the election year in Turkey, with Erdogan not being able to run again according to the constitution (he does not have the power to change the constitution). He can jail everyone, but Turkey is not Russia or Belarus. Maybe it doesn't work perfectly, but we still have elections here, and his popularity is at an all-time low. I think there will be a very different Turkey during the Istanbul 2036 Games.
4. That just proves my point.
5. Considering what happened to the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant in 2011 (the worst nuclear incident since the Chernobyl disaster in 1986), I think Istanbul is safer than any Japanese bid.
6. Istanbul Airport (IST) is the only airport in the world with triple independent runway operations outside the US. Three airplanes can take off at the same time. Soon, İstanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) will get its 2nd runway as well. So, Istanbul has become one of the most easily reachable cities in the world.
7. The Istanbul delegation signed the Host City Agreement with the European Olympic Committee for the 2027 European Games. Istanbul has about 2 years to deliver the Games and since almost every venue is ready it shouldn't be a problem. The Mayor of Istanbul said ''The 2027 European Games will also be a crucial step toward our long-standing goal: hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. On this occasion, I also had the pleasure of meeting with the president of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach.'' I hope the host of the 2036 Olympics is chosen late 2027 so Istanbul could show what it has to offer. Istanbul will also host either the opening or the final game of EURO 2032 European Football Championship which will be co-hosted in Italy and Turkey. https://x.com/imamoglu_int/status/1895506822779543608
8. It seems like South Korea is bidding with North Jeolla province, not Seoul. https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/sports/2025/02/600_393223.html
9. I think it is just a waste of time at this point. I can't believe you googled tragic events in Indonesia... I made my point clear. I don't have time for your unnecessary drama.
10. Oh, wow. So now we're discussing nationalities? How did we even get to that point? I was simply pointing out a problem. Why is that a problem for you? I remember hearing people talk about the catastrophic earthquake in 2023 under Istanbul 2036 page. Some people shut them down by pointing out how irrelevant that is since earthquake-prone countries like Japan, Italy, the USA (California), and Greece have hosted the Olympic Games. But it’s awful how people reduce these issues to mere statistics. I never intended to say, “Look how bad the other bids are,” but I do feel compelled to say, “Look how flawed the Indian bid is.” I’m not making those same points about the Korean, Indonesian, or Chilean bids, am I? So why are you so defensive? Public transport in India is a huge issue, and it’s a critical component of hosting the Games. Why don’t you see that? I can’t believe people are now bringing up earthquakes, nationality, and discrediting other bids just to deflect from the conversation. PS: Nobody and I repeat NOBODY can beat the French in arrogance. You simply lost to London.
11. I think you're taking the context to a whole new level. The incident in India was a very preventable issue, yet you're drawing a comparison with a natural disaster and engaging in whataboutism. I wouldn't make the same argument if it had been the result of an earthquake or flood. I'm not saying the Turkish government didn't fail. Of course, they did. But how can you compare two completely different issues? Yes, Turkey, like Greece, Italy, and Albania, is in a seismically active region due to the Arabian plate pushing the Anatolian plate toward the Eurasian plate, which causes seismic activity. This is not a new phenomenon. A scientist from Göttingen University recently stated that Turkey is physically separating from the Middle East through a tectonic tear. However, Turkey's earthquake regulations are aligned with those of Japan, as they were revised after the 1999 earthquake. Most of the buildings that collapsed in the 2023 earthquake were constructed in 2023, and I don't even want to mention the magnitude of the earthquake. This is like criticizing the German government for failing after the floods. A tragedy like the one in India can't happen just anywhere. No! Stop normalizing preventable incidents. I've already explained how different and widespread that event was. In Mumbai, almost one person dies on average every day while using public transport. Of course, accidents happen but this is too much. These points need to be highlighted. This is pure government negligence; it's not something unexpected. If IOC is not looking at such problems, why are they talking about sustainability, social and environmental effects, etc? I am not trying to discredit the Indian bid but to be very frank, I think it is the worst bid amongst all candidates. This is my opinion.
12. Oh wow. Pointing out the Indian government's failures is a crime now? You are comparing the Indian government's negligence and a possible natural disaster that may or may not occur. The Indian government is 100% responsible for what happened there. Maybe they should have invested in public services instead of building the largest temples and statues.
13. Okay, I didn't see that, but it still doesn’t justify the tragic event in India. First of all, the incident in India occurred in a public transportation setting, while the one in China was sparked by people stopping to pick up fake money thrown from a nightclub balcony. These are two very different situations. The Indian incident highlights the failure of the overcrowded transportation system, whereas the Chinese event was an unforeseen turn of events.
14. At least 18 people died in a stampede at a New Delhi railway station during the world's largest religious event. I wonder what could happen during the world's largest sporting event. This is unacceptable because China has more than a billion people as well but we don't hear such incidents. https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20250216-18-dead-in-india-stampede-to-catch-trains-to-hindu-mega-festival
15. This is like 5 minutes walk from my house haha. I wish I could see the Olympics being held here in 2036.
16. They tried this pan-European hosting for Euro 2020 and it was the most boring sporting event ever. I know it was right after the pandemic but you would expect it to be alive since the world was starting to open. There was no soul since people kept moving from one city to another.
17. I am aware of that but Oklahoma City and Tahiti are only for one kind of sporting event. In this case, if I want to watch hockey, kayaking, rowing, cricket, and volleyball I would have to travel more than 2500 km. This is like hosting the Games in Istanbul, Sofia, Vienna, Luxembourg, and Paris.
18. Here is the map. I. couldnt add to my previous post.
19. These cities are not even close to each other.
20. The Mayor of Istanbul was on TV last night and said, ''We will bring the Olympic Games to Istanbul. We will bring it with a very special work.'' I can't wait for the plans to be released.
21. If that's true then IOC's future host commission chair is lying. Also, if the IOC is now giving away hosting rights without any voting or meetings just because a rich man promises to pay then, there is no point in attending this commercial event anymore. https://www.anews.com.tr/sport/2023/10/15/ioc-decision-on-2036-olympics-host-will-not-come-before-2026-ioc
22. Oh nooo please don't ignore meee 😂 If you ignore me then what do you say about the LA and Tokyo comments above? I am very curious.
23. Watch your language. I am very confident with my geography skills. Since Rome hosted the Olympics again in 1960, I guess it was not a major problem. Here is the seismic hazard map of Europe and clearly Italy and Greece are under threat as much as Turkey and yet they could host several Olympics in history. Using a natural disaster as an anti-argument is seriously a horrible and inhumane thing to do. Shame on you. Just to give you an idea, Japan was awarded only 1-2 years after the Earthquake in Japan when Japan failed and their nuclear power plant started leaking into the ocean and they had to empty some cities and villages like Chornobyl. You ar just making up reasons because you know Istanbul's bid is pretty strong in terms of organization and infrastructure. Don't worry; the European Olympic Committee and the UEFA entrusted Istanbul for the 2027 European Games and the 2032 European Football Championship. The 2036 Olympics will be the crowning event of Istanbul. No other city deserves the Olympics more than Istanbul. Don't worry, Istanbul is the safest and most assured bet compared to the other boring bids
24. Oh, my comment was for Saudi Arabia but you meant South Africa. Anyway, still your comment does not make any sense. While you praise how Seoul has the metro and infrastructure to host on the other hand you are promoting South Africa which has nothing but football stadiums from the 2010 World Cup. Istanbul has everything and it is a new city to discover. Seoul should wait for another generation to host again and South Africa needs to build its infrastructure and prove that they don't build them just to host an event for 2 weeks.
25. You have not seen the Istanbul 2036 plans because you are not an IOC member. They held meetings with the IOC and soon the plans would be public as the selection process went on. RSA is in the Middle East hence it is West Asia hence it is definitely not Africa. Greetings to your geography teacher. Soul will not have the lowest venue and infrastructure expenditures as Istanbul also have everything built already. There is no other city in the world that builds 10 metro lines at the same time and by 2029 Istanbul will have the same number of metro stations as Seoul. Seoul had already hosted an Olympics. Now it is time to give chance to new cities like Istanbul. How is the World Cup and Olympics related? With this logic, Qatar 2022 already satisfied a Middle Eastern Olympics host lol and 2010 South Africa and 2030 Morocco satisfied the African Olympics... I don't see the connection. If the earthquake was a problem (This is a horrible and inhumane argument to use btw. Basically you are fortune-telling that oh there may be an earthquake so, you can't host anything major) then how did Athens, Rome, Tokyo host? I am very confident that Istanbul is leading the 2036 bid with its uniqueness and readiness.
