  1. Just spitballing........maybe the southern slopes are part of the deal because the northern venues are all saying no?
  2. Possibly. But can one region literally do it without the other? Could the south basically go it alone? Could the north go it alone? Or would that be basically Bacelona fraternal rivalries trying to upend each other?
  3. I think you just talked yourself into the reasoning.......even though I completely disagree with it and think it makes less sense. The north will get the mountain and slope events. One of the riviera cities will get the ice events, as bewildering as that is (probably Nice). This is what the French bid is thinking, but I think it would be profoundly dumb using one of them instead of Lyon (and then, why do you even need the south bids in the first place unless the northern ski resorts arent on board?)
  4. Was just at Barcelona last year and went up to the mountains. The situation was..........not good in terms of snow. I think this ship has sailed.
  5. So I dunno what to think here. Trying to think like the IOC here, they probably letting Sweden stay in the driver's seat, and will let them stay there unless the Swedes vote down their bid. Obviously theyre probably hoping Sweden seals that deal. But does this also indicate that the IOC thinks France is a backup who can get their ducks in a row to get everything lined up in 4 1/2 years? It sort of feels like the IOC believes France to be a bit of an insurance policy, as flimsy as that might be.
  6. Good be thinking this is their last dance so might as well get it in before its even less of a possibility
  7. Id reckon Geneva could even be a possibility to host a venue or two (possibly) as far as ice events go.
  8. I really, really hope it is Lyon that is on board as the main anchor city somehow. That makes so much more sense geographically to me. But I guess there would be great appeal in reusing the Paris 2024 sites too.
  9. yeah theres no way it can be delayed that long. France needs to get on this as of 2 months ago if they really want to be serious about this. Italy 2026 set the standard of Late 11th hour bids, so it is possible, but that needs to be locked in at 2024 at the latest.
  10. Since regional and principality bids are increasingly fashionable, are there any Swiss cantons that we know of that buck the pattern of referendum killing?
  11. See this is the late 11th hour appeal here. Just like Italy, it could be down to regions. That would have never happened if the regions were not heavily involved. As such, it feels like the French regions would be the heavy lifters here
  12. Oh hell yes.........Im here for it. I'd love to see it
  13. Oh FFS, yup, Shanghai 2036 it is then. Can put that one to bed. So much for a new interesting place.
  14. Harbin being #6 and waiting til 2038 seems like a very realistic shout. That would be a 16 year wait since 2022, just as Calgary did when Canada tried to get on board for 2026. I'm sure the IOC would listen to that. 2030 would be much too short of a gap one would think (that and it is, well......China). 2030 gets interesting in a very bad way if Sweden stops in its tracks in November. Granted, if Sweden does fall off, the three countries/cities that would remain........SLC, Sapporo, and.......possibly Harbin? All have the capacity to get things moving on quick short notice and to seal the deal. Sweden........I do not think would. Seems IOC is giving Sweden that time because anything beyond 2023 I think the tracks fall off for that one. Sapporo has become quite the soap opera. Theyre in, theyre out, theyre in, theyre out, theyre in, theyre out. Come on guys, just stay in for the love of christ. In the spirit of beggars cant be choosers, they'll absolutely risk rolling it out despite the corruption situation, especially since a more positive poll came out recently in favor.
  15. Ahhhh that would make sense then. Yeah, I could absolutely see China trying to swoop back in in 2038, 2042 to consolidate "rotating host" credentials, especially if up against neighboring Sapporo (in which clase, Id clearly prefer Sapporo). Of course, this is all rhetorical guesswork at this point.
  16. Interesting.......certainly not unheard of. Would suck to have another games in China, especially in such a short amount of time but........if we gotta, we gotta. They've shown theyre up for it. And yeah, they would not hesitate to be added to the "permanent fixture" pile, and Harbin makes way more sense than Beijing for that.
  17. I am at a literal loss as how Turks can still keep voting for a guy who is directly responsible from the Lira dropping from 4, to 5, to 8, to 15, to 20, and now to 26 Lira to the dollar. Seems profoundly stupid to me to keep voting for a guy that makes my money worth less and less, but I digress. Erdogan will spare no expense for a 2036 Istanbul even if the Lira drops to 100. He wants it bad. Apologies for threadjack.
  18. I was really hoping the S-400 could be traded for the F16s and sent promptly to Ukraine, but Erdogan knows how to tangle for leverage unfortunately.
  19. Istanbul and Budapest are palming their hands gingerly as the only "strong" candidate left is South Korea
  20. I will take "sunk" with pun. It is funnier that way. Unfeasible bid is unfeasible. Let us move our attention to Qatar and Saudi Arabia then lol. Or even Russia (ducks)
  21. What grinds my gears is even if Turkey says yes, Orban is going to say no. Brace for it.
  22. Sure will, and unless I miss my guess, Sapporo was actually one of the few strong "winter" destinations that would still have a strong winter by then
  23. Tryina really get me to believe here huh Sweden....... Sweden 2030, SLC 2034, Sapporo 2038 would be absolutely lovely.
