Exactly. Both cities will stick to their guns until in September when one of them is handed the short end of the stick. To be clear, LA2024 never called it a "consolation" prize. That was an LA Times reporter.- 4,801 replies

I think it is good to challenge the city and ensure transparency, but I do think that the majority of LA area residents are ok with the Olympics in their town. The most recent survey was done independently of the bid organizers which showed even more support than the previous one. Good on them though, and honestly, Paris with its sky high taxes should consider the same.- 4,801 replies

It helps that California will uphold the Paris agreement and excercise its State power to keep in place and even enhance enviornmental regulations that can be rolled back at a Federal level. Thank god for California and the giant middle finger it will give to Trump at anything he does.- 4,801 replies

I read that Metro is very much expecting to find prehistoric fossils, especially in the area nearest the La Brea Tar Pits in the Fairfax District. According to Metro, that has been worked into the timeline. Even then, with an injection of Measure M funds, acceleration of the project seems likely, especially a winning bid.- 4,801 replies

LA Historic Park Opening this Weekend Would provider another stunning backdrop for the city, with the growing Downtown LA skyline in the back, especially during those infamous sunsets. https://www.timeout.com/los-angeles/blog/the-lush-new-los-angeles-state-historic-park-opens-on-saturday-041917- 4,801 replies

LA Metro orders 64 new Subway cars that will go into service in 2020 on the Red/Purple Line. An additional 34 will be added for the Purple Line Extension in 2023. Not a fan of the yellow, but hey, new trains are never a bad thing.- 4,801 replies

Stuff like this, the French media going after LA's bid does not make Paris look good. I was suspicious of this too at first, but in reality, this was a strategic move that yielded very high results. The LA 2024 group targeted markets where they would have little to no competition on platforms where they could get maximum exposure. Hence Pakistan, Nepal, etc. 100K likes in countries for 30-40 million is not that hard to believe, and with no advertisement competition from other products or companies, the LA 2024 got maximum exposure on Facebook. It really is stupid for the media to cry over this because LA already had almost 4 times more followers before their international campaign even began. 200+K vs Paris' 60+K. LA played their cars right and nailed it landing a huge number of followers, and as mentioned on numerous sites, ads on Facebook can ONLY be bought directly through Facebook, not some 3rd party service or "Bots" Cheap shot by the French. Did they learn nothing from their 2012 campaign? Focus on your own bid and stop giving free media plug ins to your competition. France essentially gave LA more visibility. They need to focus on Paris.- 4,801 replies

Both new stadiums are 100% independent of the bid. They are being built for three new teams, Olympics or not. You cannot even begin to somehow associate them to an Olympic budget. "Outsourced" they are not. They are their own projects entirely. The coliseum renovation is, however, included in the bid.- 4,801 replies

At first glance it was awfully suspicious, but with no competition for FB ads, in Africa and the middle east, LA2024 must have been all over their news feeds. It really is not that hard to believe. Hell, the "How Bout Dat" girl got millions overnight. This is not that big of a stretch when you put it in its context.- 4,801 replies

Now it looks like the FB Likes were indeed legitimate. With less competition from other agencies in the names countries, the LA 2024 ad had a lot more exposure, so this is no mistake. NYC Based Agency Laundry Service is who ran the ads for LA2024. The French are right that many of the likes came from those counties, but they are twisting the facts.- 4,801 replies

Yup. This practice is nothing new, and surely the folks at Paris2024 at the very least considered it. Many companies aggressively push their ads on to FB with a "Like" button next to it. It is rather strange though because LA already had 4x more followers than Paris. 200K+ vs Paris' 60K.- 4,801 replies

It seems like a legit report. LA2024's page got 800K new likes, mainly from Africa and the middle east. Media buys are nothing new, and it is widely practiced by major groups and companies. Still, I hate when anyone "buys their followers" Moving on.- 4,801 replies
