  1. BREAKING: Bach to meet with Trump in the White House to discuss Los Angeles' Olympic Bid. So basically a ceremonial final nail in the coffin for LA's 2024 Bid.
  2. It's crazy. Three new arenas for LA, none of them at the expense of the taxpayers. Also, file this under "Awwwwww". I got teary eyed when I saw this. A fitting tribute to the original cape crusader in LA.
  3. Breaking: Steve Ballmer moving the Clippers to a new Arena to be built in Inglewood.
  4. Kidding aside though, he is right. The Sepulveda pass is way to steep for regular rail. A subway can tunnel under, but that would cost a fortune. Monorail seems like the more affordable version.
  5. Hey it worked for Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook!
  6. So what exactly will happen in September then? It seems like it has been decided. LA has not conceded, but is also not giving ultimatums. Paris' "now or never" ultimatum seems to have worked....and LA, while surely disappointed, will (apparently) walk away with more money and guaranteed the 28 games. Color me confused.
  7. Aww. Don't worry Mousier Estanguet, no cold showers this time around, no matter how paranoid the last vote left you. Paris will host in 24' and maybe LA in 28'
  8. While rooting for LA, I am also rather enjoying the the convos and the scenarios play out from afar. Seeing people drool over both cities and say some interesting and sometimes ridiculous things, all over something that none of us here have a vote on. Lol. It's like fantasy football almost.
  9. There was a lot of truth to what Abrahamson was saying. He was right about a lot of what he said, especially in regards to the United States. And what he said would ring true for 2024 (especially after these last few months) and will likely be true for 2028.
  10. I think LA taking 2028 with the extra $$$ and having the IOC fund it's city wide youth programs in the years leading up to the Games is as awesome fucking deal if you ask me. If that is the case, let Paris take the 24 Games, I am happy the kids of LA will have a steady stream of $$$ for youth programs for years to come. If Garcetti can get the guarantee from the IOC of the additional funding and budget, I say, do it.
  11. It does sound like LA will take 28' with some serious incentives. What I wouldn't do to be a fly on the wall of those negotiations. Paris' "weakness" of needing a village and relying on public funds doubled as a strength this time because it's only standing competitor did not and was privately funded. While I was hopeful for a 24 games in LA, can't say I didn't see this coming. Donny winning in November only cemented the fate of the 24' games.
  12. Ah, yes. I love when local officials scare the sh*t out of everyone and claim a traffic apocalypse. "Carmageddon" a few years back was the best thing to happen to LA traffic SINCE the 1984 Olympics. Some freeways were so empty that people were riding their bikes or skating on them. The mayor said, LA can take over the freeways very easily for events like this.
  13. Just got into LA from Paris. Saw these on the trains. Not as cool as flags on the buses, but still nice to see that the LA transit system is on board (no pun intended) with the bid.
  14. LA got so much rain this year, that the SuperBowl will be moved from 2021 to 2022. Well at least it is out of the drought. The stadium is delayed by a year from 2019 to 2020.
  15. Ive been to NY, Mexico, and Tokyo, all very fine systems. Paris' is shockingly in dire need of rail car and capacity upgrades. The M2 is about 5 cars long and the trains are tiny and narrow. While I do appreciate how affordable it is €1.70/ride, it was very uncomftorable compared to other cities. NY has longer and wider trains with side seats. Mexico city has 12 car trains, and Tokyo's are cramped but well air conditioned and CLEAN! I was just trying to imagine how much worse the trains would be during an Olympics.
  16. Just got back from Paris, this E Formula 1 race made traffic a nightmare! Either than that, I was impressed at how much more Paris 2024 advertised around the city Vs LA which picked specific spots. The buses all had little flags and a decal on the back and of course the tower at Montparnasse. That aside, my only real concern was, surprisingly, transportation. Paris very extensive rail system is standing room only throughout most od the day, and of course only worse at rush hour. Even with trains running every 2 minutes the trains were packed sardines. And many of them, especially on the M6 there was no AC.
  17. LA 2024 = Kobe Bryant #24 of the LA Lakers seemed like a no brainer. He turned Staples Center into the globally recognized venue it is today. That or Venus and Serena Williams LA 2028 = Venus and Serena Williams who begand their careers from the legacy of the 1984 Olympics.
  18. Either city will take the 28 games if they lose 24. LA and Paris both do not have the luxury of another bidding campaign.
  19. Trump cost LA 2024 without a doubt. LA and Paris being basically perfect 10s, it will boil down to the other stuff like politics and political climate. A lot can happen in 7 years, but Trump with his wild all over the place policies gave Paris a serious push to the front of the line. LA not having to pay for a 2nd bid helps, and will put LA in a position ask for a bigger cut. Paris going 2nd puts it in the same position. It will be interesting.
  20. Hope they don't drag people out of the Coliseum if they oversell seats. Lol.
  21. NY Times is reporting that LA Mayor Eric Garcetti may run for the White House in 2020. Imagine he opened a 2024 Games in LA? ****, we need orange cheeto out like today.
  22. This will be the cloesest race ever.
  23. I agree Paris will step it up, but from multiple sources it appears the biggest draw bacm for Paris is their very expensive Village. It will be down to the wire, but the French now know that LA means it when they say "low risk" bid. Even the French are impressed.
  24. I know that the IOC will always say that the city they are visiting is amazing, but I have to admit, it looks like LA really hit it out of the ballpark. I am in Marseille at the moment and in some of the French outlets here there appears to be concerns for the first time that LA may get 24 and Paris 28, even with Macron being sworn in on Day 1 of the IOC visit. My crappy wifi connection is depressingly slow, but as soon as I am in Paris (Wednesday) I will post them up.
