  1. For comparison the entire LA 2028 Budget is $5.3 Billion, about 80% of the entire budget.
  2. New Rams Stadium costs tops $4 Billion Of course, this was a calculated move, adding an amphitheater and a NFL Zone, but still, that is a jaw dropping price tag. https://www.bizjournals.com/losangeles/news/2018/05/16/rams-stadium-costs-top-4-billion.html Who is footing the bill? $2.25 billion, Banks $1.6 billion, Stan and Ann Kroenke $400 million, NFL stadium financing Total: $4.25 billion
  3. I agree. Already look at what is already happening in Orange County. The board of supervisors decided to break up a homeless encampment and temporarily house them in area motels and eventually building housing for them. The decision was met with fierce opposition from county residents and constituents. Same in LA. Everyone wants them off the streets, but nobody wants them in their neighborhoods. It's a fucked up dilemma being played out over and over again in many cites.
  4. The plan on paper looks great, but homeless is a tough issue for virtually every city because its not just enough to house them. The root cause of their homelessness needs to be addressed. Some are chronically homeless because of untreated mental illness, or substance abuse. A great deal of them are young Americans who were kicked out of their homes for being Gay/Lesbian/Transgender, and more recently, many cannot afford the sky high rent. I commend the city of LA for addressing this head on, and I realize, this was voter approved almost an entire year before it clinched the 2028 Games, but still. It will be a long and daunting task.
  5. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles. Microsoft CEO, and Clippers owner Steve Ballmer donating $10 Million for youth basketball ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games. http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-clippers-donation-20180402-story.html
  6. Well, Barron-Pierre, rotating so that other cities can bask in that Olympic "Glow" sure has worked wonders for the IOC hasn't it. I mean look at the amazing stories coming out of Sochi and Rio! The point I was trying to make is that the IOC in trying to pick new cities, ultimately ends up financially ruining cities, making that "Olympic glow" go away fast. Cities go running away with their tails tucked between their legs. I get that that's how the IOC used to function and why NYC and Chicago were both put forth before LA's 3rd, but now that the IOC is in a sober state of mind, it needs to start being serious about its bids. Going new places comes with a massive risk. Yes, LA, been there done that, I get why some in the IOC/USOC and many here just roll their eyes, but when your image is that badly broken, you need to be smart about who they pick. BORING > FAILURE
  7. " So here we are again with the USOC and IOC heading West to California across the frontier. But this time, they’ll need to remember why they went to Los Angeles in the first place. " The final line pretty much sums up why I always rooted for LA to run again. I rooted back in 2008/2009 for the 2016 Games when it lost to Chicago, and for this past bidding cycle when it originally lost to Boston and ultimately backed out of 24' for the 28' Games. LA gets it done, makes them memorable, leaves legacies, and does not go into the red.
  8. $5,000,000,000, that's a bonkers amount of money. But hey, it was Kroenke's project. He and the NFL are responsible for the added costs. I will admit, when I saw the whole entertainment complex alongside the Stadium, $2 Billion seemed like a bargain. The stadium alone was about $1 Billion.
  9. The Marriot at LA Live is actually on Olympic away from Figueroa, and not facing any large screens. Now, if they opt for the new Park Hyatt Hotel that's under construction, then yes, they will be near those screens. But, um, curtains? Sound proof windows? I've slept just fine in Vegas with all the debauchery going on just a few feet away.
  10. Cool new renderings of the new Rams/Chargers Stadium that will be used in the 2028 Opening and Closing ceremonies. Full article + pictures here ---> https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/msn/take-a-look-at-the-massive-sleek-%2426-billion-stadium-the-rams-and-chargers-will-call-home/ar-BBK1OUZ
  11. From a marketing point of view. Hell yes. That is prime real estate with high vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Ads can be played at all hours and rotated regularly. During the Olympics they can play for Sports or Olympics related branding videos or ads. The possibilities are huge.
  12. You're right. If we get it right, Figueroa will be more like this.
  13. Whoa. If I am not mistaken that is directly in front of the Staples Center. It will make for a dazzling visual as spectators in '28.
  14. I won't lie, I was shellshocked by Paul's comments on a very complex and sensitive subject. Nothing about what he said was humanistic or had an ounce of compassion.
  15. Guetta is world famous and was born and raised in Paris, France. But I have to agree the opening ceremonies to France 98' were awful. The only thing I found entertaining were the giant colorful statues that were roaming the city on their way to the stadium. Everything else seemed so sloppy
  16. While I do fault Garcetti for not acting more quickly on the homelessness situation, I can't pin the blame on him entirely, or on liberal governance. The homelessness problem has been decades in the making. 1. Many of them are not from Los Angeles, or even from the west coast. This has been well documented by many non-profit organizations. Many come from RED, CONSERVATIVE States where they simply get them one way tickets on Greyhound to the west coast. 2. Enforcing the laws does nothing. The cops can cite all they want, they are homeless, they have nothing, we can just put them in jail, it will be insanely costly and will fix nothing. 3. The homeless you see on the streets of LA, SF, Seattle, San Diego, are not illegal immigrants. Immigrants often find housing with a relative or friend. I don't even know how this made the list. 4. Where do I even start, SF, really? A city a fraction the size of LA? 5. You're delusional 6. You are sounding very Hitler-ish I get your frustration, I have it too, and liberals and conservatives alike are fed up with it. But blaming one party or one mayor is stupid. Many past administrations both Republican and Democrats have failed to address it. Housing them isn't enough. That is a band aid approach. Each person has his/her individual needs. No one wakes up one day and decides they want to live on the street. It is a systematic failure of sorts. Many are veterans with unchecked/untreated PTSD, some are young gay and lesbian kids who were kicked out of their homes for being gay (looking at you southern states), some left abusive relationships, and many are just very mentally ill and are getting no help. The city, county, state, country needs to provide services to this people so that they are not just housed, but get the help and treatment they need to stay off the streets. Having worked with homeless in California I can tell you it is not easy. They are humans, not animals, and they each have their own tragic story.
  17. This is so within reach. They should get working on it ASAP. They can really use it to the advantage of the new 6th Street Bridge.
  18. The un-fucking of LAX. 40 years overdue. Finally LAWA gets it right.
  19. Yep. I have little doubt LA will deliver IMMENSELY on this. LA is a mecca for music, movies, art, food, fashion, you name it, the city is exporting this stuff at an astonishing rate. I only hope that it continues to do so well into 2028.
  20. Even many of LA's will be done in 2024, and they ended up getting the 2028 Games. Tsk, Tsk.
  21. USC announces name change to the Coliseum under new sponsorship agreement. In 2028, welcome everyone to the, wait for it.... United Airlines Memorial Coliseum Excuse me while I vomit all over the goddamn place. What’s next Geico Dodger Stadium!?
  22. The lot directly across the Walt Disney Concert hall will begin construction on the long awaited Grand Avenue project. This is a great addition the Downtown sports park and the marathon which will terminate just down the street at Grand Park. Designed by Frank Gehry. https://la.curbed.com/2018/1/22/16919512/frank-gehry-los-angeles-grand-avenue-project
  23. This is great news, Mayor Garcia is another really forward thinking Mayor. Additionally, it's nice to see that many of these projects, like LA's list, were already in the works before the Olympic announcement. Very welcome news.
