  1. Paris is knee deep in **** right now. It's so bad they are closing the Eiffel tower, you know, the thing on their Olympic logo. Even LA couldn't pull this off without costing a fortune in security.
  2. What Wasserman does in his private life and as chairman are two different things. How he decides to spend his money or whether or not he decides to list his Beverly Hills home for sale is irrelevant to an Olympic Budget which has strict oversight by the LA City Council.
  3. Yeah the wording of the questions was immensely misleading. Yes, cost overruns are a real problem, but it doesn't explain why. Construction costs are what drive the Olympic Committee into the red, something that is noticeably and thankfully missing from the LA bid. A **** survey that I hope backfires on them.
  4. California and the pot industry is not even hiding their excitement about the 2028 Summer Games and the revenue opportunities for them. Let's start with LAX now allowing Marijuana on departing flights --> https://www.businessinsider.com/travelers-can-fly-through-lax-with-marijuana-2018-9 Official Statement from Los Angeles World Airports (LAX) --> https://www.flylax.com/en/lax-marijuana-policy 2028 LA Olympics to Be First Ever With Legal Cannabis --> https://www.leafly.com/news/lifestyle/2028-la-olympics-first-ever-legal-cannabis The Marijuana 2028 Olympic Games Coming to California --> https://cannabisnow.com/cannabis-industry-insiders-believe-weed-will-fund-2028-olympics/ 2028 Summer Olympics to be First to Occur in Area with Legal Marijuana --> https://thejointblog.com/2028-summer-olympics-first-occur-area-legal-marijuana/
  5. Marijuana will definitely contribute to the success of the 2028 Games, make no doubt about it. Of course, there will be no formal affiliation with the IOC, but its essential role in California and the Los Angeles lifestyle will make it a very sought after commodity by visitors. I could even go as far to say that many will add it to their itinerary as they ALREADY do now, especially by Europeans and Australians. Cannibis tourism skyrocketed in California since its legalization. Of course, Athletes will need to steer clear and be mindful of it. Pot Friendly Tourism Takes Off in California Skipping out on a good smoke session in California is like going to France without trying their wine or cheese.
  6. No mention of ending poverty from the LA side, but they have aggressively pushed for homelessness solutions starting back in 2015, and curbing carbon emissions is a byproduct of the electric car roll out. So while not specifically mentioned (smart of them), they aim to address some of the same problems. 20 - 40% ownership of electric cars by 2028 seems very plausible, especially with new electric models coming out each year. I know Metro Los Angeles recently announced their intent for a zero emissions bus fleet by 2030, and truthfully, that can happen way before that.
  7. I called it over a year ago. Tesla has a strong presence in LA already, so this was bound to happen. Tesla, BMW and BYD, are among others that are in a joint partnership with Los Angeles to accelerate the rollout of electric vehicles ahead of the 2028 Olympics. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1118728_l-a-sets-electric-car-targets-as-host-for-2028-olympics
  8. Posted in wrong thread. How do I delete/edit?
  9. Irvine (In Orange County) wants in on LA 2028. Water Polo venue in Irvine to be considered. https://www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/news/2028-olympic-water-polo-venue-proposed-in-irvine/
  10. Haha. This is great! Does LA even have a red light district? I would suggest they name their landfill after Trump, but landfills actually serve a very important service. It would be such an insult to landfills everywhere.
  11. It would be nice to have it reach all 50 States + Puerto Rico. I hate that it was left out of the last relays.
  12. And OJ Simpson just after that taking the torch up in Santa Monica it looks like. Wild. Love the 80s feel to the whole thing, definitely a captures it well. I really enjoyed one line in particular, because I feel that it really resonates to current day America. "There is something out there in America that was waiting for something like this to happen... there was some spirit. I don't know what it is, some think it was patriotism, I think it was more than that. They thank you for coming, it was something that needed to be unleashed."
  13. Dateline: City of Angels A powerful and raw look into LA's chronic homelessness problem, how it began, how it's getting worse, what's being done, and how NIMBYism stalls any progress. Truly a heartbreaking reality, with just a glimmer of hope. A must watch. https://www.nbc.com/dateline/video/city-of-angels/3779455
  14. I can easily see Tokyo doing something like this, and even Paris for 2024 as the technology is already available. LA is still too off in the distance. Ten years ago the iPhone was first introduced. Remember that? A pre-iPhone world? We can only imagine what it will look like 10 years from now.
  15. That sounds about right if LA was hosting the 2020 or 2024 Games, but they are hosting 2028. A LOT will happen between now and 2028 that will set the tone for the Los Angeles and the United States. Way too early to say even for the handover ceremony.
  16. On the topic of eSports. Los Angeles has been hosting eSport tournaments for several years already. And the annual E3 convention held at the LA convention center draws an international crowd each year is headed for its 24th year. I can see why early on the LA group really pushed for some sort of inclusion. They see the value in having it be part of an international competition.
  17. Yeah exactly. Paris' can change many times before the final plan. I expect LA's to change as well as even more venues are being announced and slated for completion before 2028 and independent of the Olympics.
  18. There's a great deal of collaboration going on between Paris and LA. LA will be run, at least from a financial point of view, very differently from Paris, but that's about it. It is still way to early to make any kind of conclusions like this.
  19. Having recently traveled to Japan, I was downright embarrassed at America's ancient diesel locomotives. I am glad that Southern California is doing this. The weather there is too nice to see diesel locomotives polluting the air.
  20. What helps LA is that the kind of corruption that often plagues other host cities revolves around the construction of the stadia and villages. With LA lacking the need for both of those, the chance of corruption becomes drastically lower. Who's going to make a killing by over inflating costs, the LAPD? Metro? LAX? It will be harder to pull off any kind of corrupt deals for this Olympic city. That's not to say impossible, definitely much harder.
  21. Another article regarding forward thinking ideas. Turning street lights into a smart grid. LA's Street Lights Get a Futuristic Overhaul Ahead of the Olympics
  22. Flying Ubers, while not impossible, are definitely more on the "Futuristic" end of the spectrum. Two years is awfully optimistic, but then you consider the minimal infrastructure needed for a since LA has the most helipads in the United States, and 2nd only to Tokyo in the world, and I can see why they would think that. I would also argue that LA's red tape is notorious for slowing things down. Then you get headlines like this. Elon Musk’s Boring Company Is Partnering With the L.A. Metro The idea of public/private partnerships have worked out well for LA and I think this is only the beginning for them.
  23. The "Banks" category is referring to the loans that were taken out for the project.
  24. It is very unlikely as this was one of the biggest selling points for the massive project. The move seems to be more due to additions to the already giant project, and less about cost overruns. If the city is tapped to for help, city of LA would still be off the hook, and the City of Inglewood surely won't foot a whole lot since its a fraction the size of LA. They will have to rely on all private entities to be honest.
